My husband surprised me by ordering dinner from Jam Café because I've always wanted to try this cuisine, but every time I've called before, they were closed. I was so excited to finally try it. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. When my husband got home with the food, we realized one of the dinners was missing. When he called the restaurant, they went back and forth with him, insisting he had the item and confusing it with a veggie tray. It was very frustrating and unprofessional. I drove all the way back from my home in Chesapeake to resolve the issue. While there, I also returned the glory greens because they were clearly not fresh or properly prepared. I asked to swap them for cabbage, but the cabbage wasn't fully cooked. After waiting an additional 10 minutes, they asked if I would prefer a refund instead. I then had to wait another five minutes just to receive the refund. Throughout the entire interaction, the staff was rude and showed no empathy for the inconvenience -- especially considering I had to drive all the way back after my husband had already brought dinner home. Not really a fan of this place. I came here with a fellow Yelper a couple of weeks ago for the first time. It was completely empty and we were the only 3 people in there. They didn't offer any food because the kitchen was closed and there weren't any specialty drinks. It's just your typical rum and coke type of place. There were 2 bartenders there, 1 was doing the ABSOLUTE MOST to ensure that she secured her tip from the gentleman that we were with. The other young lady was more chill and didn't do as much. The lighting was low, it was dark to set the mood I guess. But like I said it was just us. The music was on point though. So we sat at the bar, talked and vibed to the music. About 2 weeks ago, I came back here a lot later and I believe the cover charge was $10 per person to get in using cash or cash app. When we got inside it was kinda of empty in there... maybe 15-20people total on a Saturday night. I'd never had Jamaican food before, and I was apprehensive because I can't have spicy foods. Regardless, I gambled and had the Rasta pasta with salmon. It was amazing! The salmon came as a fillet and it was perfectly cooked and quite large. The flavors were astounding and I look forward to trying more on their menu. I ordered take out through Door Dash and picked it up. The woman who helped was very kind and straight forward. There isn't much to say when the order is on the counter next to her, but she didn't seem bored with her job. As for the ambiance, I was only in the room directly from the door, and it was cozy with a few tables and chairs. You walk in and it is relaxing and homie, good music in the background. The young lady taking the order was kind and chill. The food was A-MAZING. Wt was super filling. So much food and the price wasn't that bad. I ordered The Sampler or something but it was great. Had two sides and the rice with greens. It was very ddelicious and I still have for tomorrow. This is definitely a hole in the wall and they have a bar in the back and in the back back they have hookah "lounge" or at least that's what I heard from the young lady. I must say, I did not know what to expect when I was invited to a birthday party at this location. The address (street name) sounded so familiar when I received an invitation to party here. You know this used to be Maymar Restaurant. I had no idea MayMar had left the building... when I don't know. But Jam Cafe are the new owners of this space. I attended a birthday party here last Saturday night. We arrived about 9:15 pm. A few people were standing outside, not sure why, but others were pulling up and walking inside. They seemed to be partygoers like us. I remembered how MayMar was set up and thought to myself it cannot be but so big inside... and it's not. Soon as you walk in you're on the open dance floor and only a few steps from the bar area! This place is about 900 square feet if that. This was even more alarming. But my babe and I gave it a try. As the night went on, the DJ was rocking the spot and the bartenders were serving up amazing cocktails. And the crowd was comfy... we could dance and still breathe. I said about 60 people came out to party last Saturday night... My fiance and I really enjoyed ourselves! He was happy they spot had TV's showing the NFL playoff game. There is a large screen projector near the VIP/DJ and a TV near the bar. There is a location to the right that features plush seating and it's elevated. On this night, a free buffet was featured. OK OK... I was excited to try the food. I could already smell the aromas as they were bringing it out... always a good sign when you can smell the food before you even see or taste it! I really enjoyed the fish and cabbage. I am looking forward to return to try other menu items. I believe in trying the food fresh and not based on a buffet style. Check them out if you will. The lounge vibe is geared toward the hip-hop, RnB, soul crowd, but the food is geared to all lovers of Jamaican cuisine. The restaurant is tucked away off of Indian River Road in a shopping center. I got the curry chicken Rasta pasta and I thought the seasoning of the chicken balanced the flavor of the pasta. The plantain were sweet. My mom got an oxtail & curry chicken combo with cabbage, rice and peas. She loved all of her food. I tasted her rice and peas and loved it too. We made a real quick U turn to this place when we saw the Jamaican flag waving in the air. As we entered the store we didn't smell any aroma so we didn't know what to expect. This place is a no for me. This location has only been here for a month as I had been seeing it being built because I get my nails done in the same shopping center. I love the vibe of the please. I placed my order over the phone and when I arrived my food was hot and ready. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Rasta Pasta, Coco Bread, and a beef patty. The Coco Bread and Beef Patty was hands down the best I ever had. As for the Rasta pasta it was very bland. They only thing that had flavor was the jerk chicken on top of the pasta. I'm not from Jamaica so I'm sure if this is how a traditional Rasta pasta is made but when I prepare mine I add jerk seasoning in the pasta. The pasta was cooked perfect just lacking flavor. It was good but very different from what I've had before. I came back again and ordered curry shrimp and jerk chicken w/plantains. I've been in heaven since the first bite. The restaurant is cook to order which I LOVE! I appreciate my food not sitting under a buffet light for 5hrs. And it's well seasoned. Order times are typical and they are never crowded. I've even made it myself a time or two, but when I don't feel like whipping out the pots and pans we need a Jamaican spot. THIS just might be it! We orderd take out and had the jerk chicken wings, yellow rice and collard greens. The jerk wings were spiced just right and the flavor was popping! They only come as an appetizer, but they come with fries. The yellow rice was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The collards.... While I was looking for the flavors of home and didn't get it, the smoky flavor was a nice touch. The disappointment, they dont have roti, but thats not a deal breaker for me. Visited this restaurant twice and was absolutely blown away by the food. The food was a little pricey but worth every cent. The portions are also very large and can serve for two meals. I had the oxtail which was divine and feel right off the bone. The curried goat was also excellent. I also tasted the stew chicken which was decent but not my favourite. We tried the jerk chicken wings which were GREAT, not overly saucy OR covered in greese, the flavour was subtle but flavorful. We also tried to coco bread which is so fluffy!! And some plantains, which are always great [and not greesey]. My wife got the Jerk Chicken sampler with gabbage and yellow rice and I got the salmon rasta pasta!! So so so good. It's pretty good. Just make sure you purchase extra cream sauce. Oxtails was also cooked properly.
