I've had Saiwok bookmarked for awhile as it was recommended by a fellow local friend that frequently dines here. I went with what the staff recommended for me. Customized Bowl - I chose Brisket with vermicelli noodles Imperial rolls (3) Brussel sprouts Lychee sangria Little did I know it was 3 separate dishes I was recommended In California when we order this dish (Bún Thịt Nướng Chả Giò), it comes with an eggroll on the side that gives you an option of pork or veggie. So when the cashier asked if I wanted to add imperial rolls, I was like sure I'd like pork please, I asked if there was anything else the recommended for me, The cashier made a mention that they had really good Brussels sprouts and so I said let's add that too! I added a Lychee Sangria to top my solo dinner, was handed a cup and told to sit anywhere I'd like and the food would be out shortly. I think I was a little taken back by my $54 solo tab for dinner but was hangry, The food came out shortly and it was 3 separate dishes. :O Imperial rolls were small but crispy and good. Brussels sprouts were indeed good but had alittle too much glaze dressing for me. The bowl came out and it was lacking on the brisket meat. It was filled with tons of vermicelli noodles! It did end up being way too much food for me. I ended up taking some Togo and mixed in the Brussels with the vermicelli salad bowl to take to the hotel for a late night snack. I would come back to try other things and maybe avoid ordering too much and ask if what is being suggested is too much for one person. The vibe inside is pretty chill. Ample parking outside.

So on a whim, I decided to use GrubHub to deliver food and found this restaurant. I looked up their…read morewebsite and reviews online and decided to try it out. I'm always on the hunt for a good Chinese restaurant as someone who is Chinese American and grew up near San Francisco. Food: Fried pork with salted fish over rice was 5/5. Delicious, savory, and just hit the spot. The pork was thinly sliced and tender. Though I could subtly taste the salted fish in the sauce, I did not see any pieces of the salted fish which was a bit disappointing. However, the ginger and scallions and peppers added a beautiful heat to the dish. (It made me think of a milder version of a Cantonese dish with steamed ground pork, water chestnuts and salted fish but less fish flavor). Kam Heong chicken with rice was also tasty. They used white meat which is not my favorite but it wasn't dry. The lemongrass really shines in the dish. I've never had it before any where else so I googled what was in it and ordered it since it sounded good. Has a bit of heat to it too which I always like. I had read another review where they said it was like home style cooking and I have to agree. Definitely some unique dishes that cannot be found anywhere else around here. Pricing seemed reasonable too which is always a plus. I will have to order more from them soon! I love finding a new Asian place to eat in Tulsa! Excited to try more Malaysian-Chinese dishes!

Crispy but not greasy. I was really surprised to find the milk and fish soup. It's one of my comfort food that I have never seen in the U.S. I am also happy it opens at 10am on Saturday so I can have Asian food for brunch. The green beans are slightly undercooked like how they cook it in Asia.

She set the drink on the table before him then kissed the back of his hand. She then proceeded to ask me what I wanted to drink in a thick accent that I'll let your mind recreate. . "Ice water is fine. No lemon." I reply. "Okay, what would you like to eat?" She asked. Thinking she meant us both, I looked at my buddy, "You know what you want?" "Oh, we already know what Mr. J likes." She replies for him. "Spicy...very spicy. Make his ears ring, he tells us!" "Uhhh, okay. I'll have the same thing then. I know how hot he likes it, so I'll just have like a quarter of the spice he gets." "Yessir!" She says while handing me a piece of paper and pen. I look at it quizzically. "Oh, you have to sign this waiver." She states emphatically. As I'm signing on the dotted line, she shouts as loudly as possible; "BRING IN THE SPIIIIIICE!" As soon as she bellows that out, Chili Klaus and two dudes wearing HazMat uniforms come running from the back storage room wearing gloves while cradling a medical cooler that's just pouring out bright light and thick steam from the boiling whatever inside. Seeing my surprised face, she gloats excitedly; "Mr. J likes it very hot. We have to buy ALL NEW woks everytime he comes in! They melt like lava!" "The smell alone while we cook it sends other customers into a coma" she continues as she shoos all the other customers out of the restaurant. What did I get myself into? Surely just a quarter of that spice shouldn't hurt me? As I'm dying from dehydration because all of the sweat and snot have left my soul, the waitress asks; "You like?" "Ohh, of course. I love going at it the Portia route!" I reply. (If you get that reference...you are a giant among insects.) I only halfway finish my meal next to a pile of snotty/sweaty napkins. Wondering when the torture will end. I eventually reached a point where I lamented taking for granted the moments my lips, gums, and teeth felt normal and boring. Never eat just even a lil bit of how hot this place can take it. Your O-ring won't forgive you the next day. Unless you need to bury those feelings under a nice warm Capsaicin blanket.
