You place your order at the counter with the very rude women that are standing there chatting amongst themselves and who don't really care if they have customers or not. Don't ask them about the food, their opinions, or anything else because they will only begrudgingly respond. Once you order, you can find somewhere to sit. Seating is extremely limited, and you're more likely to share a space with others than to have your own space. While we were sitting waiting for our food, which by the way is not brought to the table your number is called and you have to return back to the counter to pick it up yourself, they do have an entire wall filled with tchotchkes and food items. Number called and we picked up our food and we needed to ask for napkins and cutlery, because none of that was provided. The food pretty much was bland to mediocre, and the dishes that we ordered that should've been hot, were barely room temperature. The eggs in the dishes we ordered were premade and cold. Poor form, poor food, poor quality. Just not good whatsoever. The wontons were very rubbery and we were not able to eat them. They were that bad. Suffice to say, when in Amsterdam avoid this place at all costs.

I walked around all the food places that mostly have fried fish and meats, and decided to try the vegetable bibimbap. It was delicious! Steamed rice with carrots, cucumbers, pickled radish, tofu, and avocado. All very fresh... Topped with 3 different kinds of light sauces and sesame seeds. Loved it! I'd definitely come back and choose to eat here over the greasy fried and heavily sauced places in this mall.

Food: We ordered the following: 1) Kimchi Tofu - delicious and very big portion. Ambiance: The evening we went it was very loud and "lively". Caveat: We went for dinner on a Friday night where it seemed that it was full of large tables of work people - and when I say work people I mean older Korean men - which means LOTS of soju drinking and very LOUD conversations. It was so loud that I couldn't even speak or hear my husband who was sitting in front of me. We literally had to shout to each other. So you can imagine what the restaurant was like where everyone was shouting. I'm not sure if this place is like this every night or even at lunch. But regardless, you never really go to a Korean restaurant for the "ambiance", you go for the food. And as long as the food was good I'll put up with the noise. We ordered the kimchi tofu, kimchi pancake and fried chicken to share. The pancake was good - lotsa flavour but would like a bit more batter for the crispiness. The fried chicken was nice - good balance of seasoning. Wish there were some pickled radish. My favorite was the kimchi tofu w/ pork. So good! I did the Korean hmmmmmm at my first bite. Everything was really good but I have to admit it was a bit expensive but hey - every now again it's a really good treat.

As well its interior, very not Korean but quite homey and with a lot of character. The staff is very welcoming and friendly too. The food, although Korean, does not stand out as much. The city doesn't have a lot of Korean restaurants which is why I like the almost novelty of Allegaartje, but it serves the regular Korean BBQ, kimbap, bibambap and mandu. All of which by itself are not quite remarkable and very 'make it in your own kitchen'-friendly. Not saying it isn't tasty, but if you've had any before it won't be very impressive. The BBQ (€25) does offer some well marinated beef, but that's it. I'm used to getting more than just beef, or at least the option to bbq more than beef alone. The kimbap and mandu or okay-ish. When I return I would like to try the bibimbap, which is fairly priced (€11-12). For first timers Korean food, Allegaartje will be pretty nice. But for me I rather get something better for the money, or the same for less.
