Yes, one of the elevators is out, and has been for weeks--and yes, the other one has been off-line for a few minutes or an hour here or there. It's true people have had to take the stairs, but never "for weeks at a time." Only for a few minutes here or there. (I had to take them down, 21 stories, the other day--but that's the only time it's ever happened). I've never had a package lost, and I've had a ton of packages delivered over the years. Yes, the heat went out on a very cold day. They had a plumber in to fix it a few hours later, on a day when NYC didn't want drivers on the road. Yes, they fired some popular staff. But the thing people on here aren't telling you is that the popular staff were fired because they were helping those tenants break the law. This building is infected with AirBnB rentals--which is a safety hazard for other tenants, because there are random strangers coming in and out of our building. It's also totally and unquestionably illegal, because this is a rent stabilized building. People are charging $500 a night to stay in their apartments! It's also immoral. The rent stabilization system was put in place to protect people with middle incomes from rate hikes, and keep apartments affordable. The apartments in this building could go for $4,000 or even $5,000 a month without stabilization, but people are paying less than $3,000, and they are exploiting that system by renting out their apartments on AirBnB and making a big profit. Almost all of the people complaining on this Yelp page...Go check AirBnB in Long Island City, you'll find their listings. They're angry because last week the landlord sent a letter saying they would no longer tolerate the illegal AirBnB rentals, and residents flipped. Now they're all angry and conspiring to make the landlord look bad on Yelp. It's definitely true that there are some problems in this building. The most recent super was fired, and reportedly it was because he was too compliant with AirBnB tenants. I'm not sure why the last super was fired, but I'm betting something similar. I feel like I live in a hotel, there are constantly people with wheelie bags checking in and out. All the penthouses are claimed by people who rent them out for a profit--they don't even live in them. One says he lives in Manhattan, another says he lives in New Jersey. Again, completely illegal and exploiting the system. AirBnB tenants don't respect the property. They abuse the equipment in the gym and the other amenities. On New Year's Eve I was on our roof deck, and there were AirBnB renters climbing up on the furniture and standing on the rooftop equipment (which might have something to do with the problems we've been seeing recently...) and breaking wine bottles on a roof deck where glass is not permitted. So yeah, ignore the sour grapes on this Yelp site. Heatherwood isn't flawless, but they've treated us pretty well as residents. The bad reviews here are from criminals, basically, who have been caught and are mad because they can't keep up their illegal rentals in a rent stabilized building.

I wasn't trying to get a rental apartment-even their so called "low income" apartments are ridiculously expensive and not a help at all for an ACTUAL low income person. I had taken the first time homebuyer course and paid $75 for it, then you take an easy-ish test and then you get the certificate and you're on your way to see a HUD counselor. Well, take a chance if you must, but I've never gotten to see said HUD counselor,and the person I was emailing with was SO RUDE and proceeded to tell me I don't have enough money (I do) and that I wouldn't be able to get a house! And they didn't even know WHAT CLASS I TOOK. HUH??? I PAID! And LIHP DOESN'T MAKE THAT DECISION, only a HUD counselor and a BANK can do that. So they just left me hanging with no certificate, no HUD meeting and an argument online!! It is not their place to tell ANYONE who can or cannot afford a home since I'm well versed in the low income housing market.Very rude, curt and uninformed.They were rude as hell to me and didn't even know what I had called them about! 3 different people were in on this email.I feel that they are NOT trying to help anyone unless you fit into their box and F U if you need more info, more cash or anything else, they just write you off. I was extremely insulted and have chosen NOT to even deal with these fools. They were not at all professional and do not deserve any state or federal funding for all the non work they do. A lot of mistakes done, if my agent would have been on top of everything or the process. This why you have Real Estate Agents so they can make the process a little smoother. This isn't my first purchase. This last process makes me never want to buy again in New York. The mortgage company took over 7 months to close this deal. So much lost papers I had faxed over to them. We lost out on the above address 3 weeks ago to a higher cash buyer, no problem there. Our agent gets a call this past Friday asking if we were still interested. We were even good enough to honor our original offer. Lauren demanded we be fast and get the home inspected ASAP so we can move to contract. We were excited so we had the home inspection Monday, Tuesday my wife and I signed their papers at our lawyers and signed a 10 percent down payment check. We get the call today that the original buyers offered more and more up front and our offer was no longer accepted. So we run around like chickens without heads so she can use our offer to leverage her original buyer. Lauren even had the nerve to say the lawyer went behind her back and made the deal, complete BS. Please do yourselves a favor and do not do business with these people. They are dishonest scum who lie, lie and lie some more.
