My family and I went here a week ago and the Egg Drop Soup was delicious, the beef and broccoli wasn't a hit it was very chewy in texture. The egg rolls was ok and we ordered the Shrimp Lo Mein it was good. So I went back to night and ordered a large Egg Drop soup first off the guy was rude saying they only had one size, then I get all the way home to find out that he charged me for Seafood Sour Soup which cost more and we don't even eat this kind of soup. So I call and he casual says he thought a said Sour Soup. Now I have to wait for a refund with no egg drop soup. I tried this location because it's closer to where we live but I'm done. People have over hyped this place the Mr. Chen's in Homewood taste so much better and the people are much nicer. Go to the Homewood location for better quality of food and service. read more

I went to Mr. Chen's to order take out. I placed my order then went and sat down at a table Infront off the cash register. The restaurant wasn't busy. After about 20 minutes I went and asked what the hold up was, the man turned around and got my good from behind him. I was mad my food had been sitting out so long and that the man that worked there couldn't have just told me my food was ready. I went home and began to eat the sesame chicken but couldn't finish half of the dish, it was awful The meat was hard and the flavor was off. I have eaten at Mr. Chens once but order delievery from here at least once a month. There are a few dishes my family needs every month and right now Mr. Chens is my preferred dealer. Dish #1: Xiaolongbao, XLB, or as Mr. Chen's calls it: A5. Small steamed bun (pork with vegetable) I love these things. Sweet, juicy, soupy, I just wish they came with black vinegar sauce as their sauce is sweeter than I expect. Dish #2: A4. Pan-Fried dumpling (chicken with vegetable). We exclusively get them pan fried not steamed, the pan fried in my son's opinion are eye-rolling good while he will not even touch the steamed ones. I get these everytime since he is addicted to them and asks for them once a week. Dish #3: Cumin Lamb. I love lamb, but even if you are not a fan of gamey flavors, you may still enjoy this dish. The meat is sweet and flavorful with very little game. This has become a frequent purchase. Dish #4: SP.2 Boiled fish in szechuan special pepper. My wife loves this dish due to the peppercorn numbing effects. I love this dish for the flavor of the fish. I only wish this was spicy with a thick layer of hot pepper oil ontop, but my wife perfers it exactly as it comes. P.S. If you get this delivered, be careful, although they bag it twice, there is likely a lot of soup that has spilled into the inner bag. Dish #5: SP. 3 Boiled fish in hot oil. So due to the lack of spice I desired in Dish 4, I tried the fish in hot oil. I really enjoyed this dish, however there is less broth and they did not keep the peppercorns. Someday in the future I will probably end up mixing SP 2 and SP 3 getting the hot spicy oil I want with the peppercorn numbing. I do not know why they do not have both in one dish. Will make another post about that if it goes well. Dish #6: SP. 9. Hot & Numbing style tofu. This mapo tofu is pretty good! I enjoy the spice, though I feel like it should be even spicier. It is always a toss between this or the lamb. Overall Mr. Chen will remain my local dealer of spicy Chinese food and dumplings. read more

Horrid experience. Went in and was sat and not a single waiter came over to ask what I wanted to eat or drink after 15-20 minutes, and I tried to get their attention. There were 4 people as well all actively ignoring me and the other customer while they sat on their phones and talked to each other. Well.... Red Pearl's consistency went down do I decided to try Mr. Chen and now this is my new favorite Taiwanese/Chinese. I've now been here three times in a row in 1.5 months and everything have been great!! What you should never get from Here nor Red Pearl, any beef dishes. Honey...they are not playing with coronavirus. They have a partition built that is keeping their employees safe from the customers that come in. You cannot dine in here currently. The tables and chairs are stacked up and pushed against the walls. You do need a mask because that is this business's policy. I have passed this place many times. I'm not sure why it took me until yesterday to finally stop by. I ordered Crab Rangoon and Lo Mein. I asked them to make my Lo Mein spicy and they definitely delivered on that! My food was pleasantly spicy. It was so good that I didn't add any sauce. That's a big deal. My entire family enjoyed all the food we ordered. While on the hunt for a good Chinese option in the area, I came across Mr. Chen's. With pretty good reviews, I decided to give them a try. I have been to Mr. Chen's on 3 occasions and have tried: Mongolian Beef, General Tso's Chicken, and Curry Chicken. Each dish was delicious. Mongolian Beef and General Tso's are a couple of go-to items for me. After those were a hit on my first two visits, I decided to try something different on the third. The Curry Chicken was delicious. It is marked as "spicy" but not very much spice but still a very flavorful dish. I would definitely order again. The egg rolls were really fresh and delicious as well. The first two visits were around 1 PM. The third visit was at 8:00 PM so close to closing time but still a fresh and delicious meal. The one thing I would caution is to carefully check your order before leaving. On the 2nd visit, there was no shrimp sauce in the bag which I did order. The 3rd visit I was missing an extra order of steamed rice. The food was so good I didn't want to dock a star. Also I checked the bag each time and didn't notice the missing items until I was home. SMH. So that part is also on me. Like I said, the taste of the food made up for the missing shrimp sauce and rice. Also, the portion of rice was more than enough so the extra rice was not needed. If I go out for Chinese food this is where I go. I have eaten here quite often and tried a lot of their dishes. Very rarely do you have to wait for a table. And the service is usually quick. and the pricing is good. My favorite of the Hot Pot dishes are the Eggplant with pork and basil, and the Basil Chicken. My regular dish favorites are Mongolian beef, General Tsaos chicken, and so many more. The food has always been good. Except when I tried an authentic Chinese soup that contained tripe, quail eggs, many types of mushroom, and some other non recognizable things. So many flavors!! The general tso's chicken was just okay. It comes in a small meal prep container but it's packed. Flavors are okay. Nothing special about it. I don't know which to rave about first the food or the service. Normally when you walk into a restaurant during their lunch rush it can feel awkward while you wait to be seated and servers rush by completely ignoring you.....Not here! When I walked in I was greeted by a server even though he was taking care of a table nearby, it wasn't but a few seconds and someone was upfront to take me to my table. They were so friendly and the service was amazing. The food is actually authentic and they have items on their menu that you don't find at a chain, but that are very common dishes overseas. The food was the absolute best I've ever had, I felt completely comfortable asking questions about items on the menu, and honestly I will be back several times more as I have an entire list of dishes I can't wait to try there ( more than I can eat in one visit). ABSOLUTELY AWFUL Chinese food! Our first time ordering from here and decided to try a different restaurant from our normal Red Pearl Restaurant, which is absolutely delicious! We were very lucky to notice this at the very beginning! When we first opened the container, I noticed the smell of spoiled meat! Tasted a little bit of the food, and sure enough, some of the meat was actually spoiled! The taste of the sauce was in no way close to what Mongolian Beef should taste like! Shredded Pork with Bamboo Shoots and Tofu - Totally bland! No flavor at all! String Beans with Ground Pork - Didn't have ground pork in it AT ALL! Furthermore, the string beans were over cooked and the flavor was just not good at all! I could have done TEN TIMES better if I had sautéed string beans at home with olive oil, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame seed oil, and rice cooking wine!! My husband went to the young guy who seems to b the one in charge he said I told the cook to do it but the cook said he couldn't do it.. umm do you not pay the cook to do his job. His job is to cook what the customer wants. We drop 100 dollars every time we come plus a good tip. The thing was we got no apology , none off of our bill and we noticed we were charged for it but we didn't get it...what the fug...what the heck was wrong today Mr. Chen's you were so bad on so many levels .
