Good food and fast service. The cuisine was pretty on par with most other Chinese food places. The egg roles are huge! I definitely recommend getting the appetizer sampler platter. I was a big fan of the chicken on a stick and the cheese wontons! I ordered the chicken with vegetables, with a side of fried rice. The food was good -- but there weren't a lot of vegetables in the dish, almost as if they were an afterthought. Overall -- it was good -- and definitely a good deal. Plenty of leftovers! Ordered from DoorDash delivery for lunch, pretty great so far, the fried rice was yummy, gobbled it up and the lemon chicken is great but the lemon sauce needs a bit more thick, almost like glaze and it's a bit sweet, balance it out with some tartness with extra lemon juice, love lemon chicken with a bit of both, tart and sweet, balanced out, it wouldn't hurt if you add fresh lemon slices to it too as garnish.... Otherwise, I enjoyed it and will definitely order it again, hoping they make the sauce a bit tart also... read more

Wok Express has the appearance of your totally average strip mall Chinese restaurant. I went in on a total whim, hoping that it would set itself apart. Good news, folks... it did. The interior is pretty small, maybe twelve tables all together. Everything seemed very clean. Even the picture menu that is usually gross (why is that, by the way?) was in focus and somewhat appetizing. The lady behind the counter was very nice. So much so, that she even chatted me up about the weather. My order was taken promptly and my Mongolian Beef arrived at my table within minutes. It was served with one egg roll and a portion of fried rice. All three items were pretty dang good. The Mongolian Beef really stood out. It was probably the sweetest I've ever had. The sauce had a caramelized taste to it. It was great. Probably not something I would always want out of my Mongolian Beef, but I can tell you this...I'm going to be craving this sweetness often. Lunch (takeout) there today. Chen Express II closed for Labor Day weekend. Both restaurants have great food. We had Mongolian Chicken and Kung Pau Shrimp. Same "loads of food" so you have another meal of each left over. We'd give Chen a slight advantage but you can't go wrong at either place. read more

Finally found a good Chinese place in Birmingham. Been to most in Birmingham and this is my favorite so far. Great fried rice and pepper steak. Good prices. Clean environment and friendly staff. They also deliver after 4:30pm or you can get it delivered through door dash. Would recommend! read more

I ordered the beef and scallops. It came with plenty of vegetables, beef, and sliced scallops so your portions are generous. I had to split the entree amongst two meals. However, I can't put my finger onto why it didn't hit the spot like other places would with the same sort of sauce. Maybe it's the unhealthy spirit in me that craves for a stick of butter and oil to be thrown in the mix. It was frustrating because I really wanted to like what I had but something about it was not satisfying. Maybe I should have ate it with rice? Nonetheless, if you want a full or (pretend) Chinese experience, Wok Express will give you both. Their menu is literally identical to every Chinese restaurant without much more to offer. Regardless of everything I said, if you're craving simple Chinese food for an evening, this will still hit the spot. Yikes! Not sure how this establishment has such decent reviews. It is terrible in every way. It is dingy inside. I left a 25% tip after I ordered just to have someone on a cell phone (literally to his ear) drop my plate off. And that was all the service received. No water refill, no check on the food, not even a goodbye as I threw my inedible food in the trash and walked out. For reference: I ordered the General Tso chicken which the order taker suggested. The sauce was fine but the chicken was off. Didn't taste a thing like chicken.. There is a Shell station right by Wok Express that you could get better quality food at. read more

I've ordered carry out from here a bunch of times and it was always great. Tonight we ordered delivery for the first time. She said 40 minutes. After 1 hour we called to check and she said it was on the way. The delivery guy showed up 15 minutes later and we live less than 10 minutes away. The food was hot but undercooked so they clearly forgot our order. Sad because usually they're very good. read more

This is very good American chinese food. The flavor and freshness is right there and I particularly enjoy their delivery. It's not out of this word amazing, but is is very good typical chinese fare. I would recommend and we order delivery from there probably twice a month! If you want chinese food delivered in Mountain Brook then this is the place. Just as good or better than Shangri-La IMO. read more
