I've been coming here for years. I always (perhaps unimaginatively) had the same thing: wonton soup off the regular menu, and homemade dumplings off the Chinese menu. Always hit the spot: the best dumplings west of Buford Hwy. Went in today and they'd "updated" the menu. The regular menu no longer features wonton soup, and they no longer offer the Chinese menu at all. Since leaving Denver, which has some of my favorite dim sum options, I have not found a place that comes close until now. Lots of different options ensure I'll be back often to try more! After a 3-4 year absence, we stopped here during a trip, and it was--even without dine-in service b/c of the virus--excellent. I goofed and order something a friend recommended (I believe it was just called 'meat and rice'), and it was ok but not as good as other dishes I've had there, not for me anyhow. My coworkers and I decided to go here since we work nearby. We ordered online and tipped and paid a service fee, which we thought was ok. I also put on my order that I was going to "Dine in." We purchased our food upon arrival and proceeded to sit at a table. The bus girl was very offended that we were eating over the menus and one person had her purse on one as well. She did not want them to get dirty. THEY ARE LAMINATED. Also, two of us realized we had not ordered a drink and asked for water. They said all they had were bottles at 3 dollars a piece. We also asked for extra bags when we left and the owner came over and said something about "free." We aren't sure what she was talking about, but think perhaps she was saying water is free when you eat in. Not sure. But again, we TIPPED AND PAID AN EXTRA FEE to order ahead and make it easier on them. AS to the food..the General Tso's was dry and chewy. Fried rice had a strange taste, but was not good at all, and the broccoli was bland. Hot and sour soup was good. Coworkers also did not like their food, although one said the dumplings were good. I've been going here for 10 years and it's great. The hot and sour soup, garlic chicken, szechuan chicken, spring rolls and fried dumplings are great. Other typical dishes like General Tso's chicken and kung pao chicken are good too. The management is extremely friendly and their service is good. The Sunday lunch buffet is as good as you could ever do for $6.50. They use their own recipes (unlike those run of the mill Chinese restaurants). There's also an authentic Chinese menu. I can't remember how, but there is some connection between Village Wok and the old Cheng Du restaurant that used to be downtown. Best Chinese food in Auburn in my opinion. read more

No Chinese restaurant-real or fake-should ever mess up the egg rolls and the egg rolls here were oily, chewy, and cold. I ordered the honey tofu and there was way too much honey in the tofu. When I called back, they pretty much implied that I was lying about the order even though I had a witness in the room that heard me order something different. So I would just like to preface this review by saying I normally never would give a restaurant anything below like 3 stars. In fact, I had to download yelp just for this one review because of how bad my experience was with the food from Village Wok. Last night I ordered food from Village Wok to be delivered. I looked at their menu online and decided the lo mein and dumplings sounded delicious. I'm a vegetarian so sometimes it is hard to find dumplings that don't have meat in them so I decided to call in and ask if they had vegetable dumplings just to be sure. The lady on the phone listed the variety of dumplings they had and to my delight they did have veggie dumplings! A favorite of mine! I ordered it online and clicked the button the said veggie lo mein and the button that said veggie dumplings and was feeling pretty confident after having already called ahead. I looked at the ingredients out of curiosity and their veggie dumplings looked so appealing and were primarily mushroom based! When I got my food it smelled a little funky but I just figured that was due to the peppers in the lo mein and didn't think anything of it. I took my first bite of dumpling and felt something was off. It didn't look like veggie dumplings on the inside. It didn't taste like mushrooms. I ignored both of these concerns and ate another thinking maybe the brown color was due to the mushrooms and the taste was the flavoring they use and maybe my palette was off due to the excess of peppers they use in the lo mein. I decided to try another and started to feel a little queasy and was now pretty sure these had meat in them. I opened the next one to inspect and sure enough there was some kind of meat in them! Now I have been vegetarian for 3 years and have never eaten any meat products in that time so naturally my body would react. For about an hour after I ate the TWO dumplings I felt pretty queasy but I ignored it. About an hour and a half later I rushed to the bathroom and was VIOLENTLY ILL!! I knew this was due to the dumplings bc once I threw them up I immediately felt relief. I'm sure someone who ate at Village Wok would have an entirely different experience than I did and I'm sure it is lovely since I myself have never eaten at the restaurant. This is not me trying to bash this establishment, rather a warning to be careful about ordering online from there, especially if you have any kind of dietary restrictions! read more

This is hands down, the best Chinese restaurant in town. It's actually more Taiwanese. Order off the "Chinese menu", that's where the good stuff is at. Despite having a few good experiences here before, this last visit was so bad I can only give one star. On weekdays with just the regular menu, this place functions really well with attentive waiters, cheap prices, and a lot of vegetarian options (which is often rare with smaller establishments like this). However, the place is SO small I can't imagine why they ever thought it was a good idea to host a Sunday lunch buffet. We happened to come in during buffet hours by accident, and of course it's super crowded, but we're willing to wait for a table. However, for some reason, the waitress decides to put us at a 4 person table when it's only the two of us and there's a 2 person table available. We shrug it off and figure they'll just make larger parties who come in later wait for us to finish. Nope. Another couple comes in and they're seated at the SAME table as us. We're literally shoulder to shoulder with total strangers. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable, and would've been avoided if they'd just cleaned off the two person table. But onto the food itself. My boyfriend came for just one dish so he asks for the regular menu. They tell him they can't do the regular menu because they're busy, and to "please please just get the buffet". Alright then, no problem. We get to the buffet. There's basically no food left. Maybe two out of ten trays have anything in them. We get a few bites and wait and wait and wait for the trays to be refilled, but they never are. They don't even offer the kinds of dishes we came for in the first place. We're starving, squeezed into the same table with random strangers, and have been more than patient, so my boyfriend refuses to pay for this crap and we leave. A waitress chases after us and makes him talk to the boss, who keeps asking him over and over if we ate anything as if we just gorged ourselves and left without paying. Sorry but three bites of stale tofu is not worth the entire buffet cost for two people. Still, they barely understand what my bf is trying to say, and because he doesn't want to make a scene, they shake him down into paying for one buffet price plus the drink he ordered (a Diet Coke, which somehow ended up being $3?) We're never personally coming back here again, but if anyone reading this wants to try it, just make sure to NEVER come on a Sunday afternoon. read more

I eat here for lunch every couple weeks. The hostess is always very nice and provides hugs for frequent customers (so I have that going for me). The food is fresh and not overcooked. The servings are smaller then you might find elsewhere but looks good on the plate and tastes even better. Some of my favorites are the hot and sour soup, chicken or beef with vegetables or broccoli, and the sesame chicken. The egg rolls are tasty and the fried rice IS the right color (a response to a previous review). The restaurant is simple but very clean. The food comes out extremely fast so don't dawdle eating your soup! There is only about 8-10 tables inside and a couple outside so they are probably hoping for a quick turn around with customers for the Sunday Buffett. I suggest you give this place a try for lunch. Can't comment on take out orders but heck, it's take out, what do you expect. read more
