Great Chinese takeout! We were driving through Thunder Bay and wanted to grab take out for dinner. Mr. Chinese was very close so we decided to give it a try and are very glad we did. Friendly staff and excellent service. The food is great and you definitely get great value with the portions. I ordered a combination #1 and my husband had a combination #5. Worst food ever. Everything was bland, the noodles were mushy as though they were sitting in sauce for hours, the broccoli in the mixed vegetables were mush, and the "sweet and sour sauce" was made from ketchup. read more

Last night we ordered delivery to a hotel not far from the restaurant. The food was good and hot. The only complaint we have is that we requested cutlery and plates to be delivered with the food and they forgot. The young guy delivering the food said he would bring them right away, but he didn't. All things considered being up here in the north, Mr Chinese was a very good restaurant. The building and interiors appeared new and the ambience was Chinese'ish. We had house special won ton soup and the Singapore chow mien. For starters we had a couple of egg rolls that had good flavor and were not greasy. The soup was good with won tons, carrots, broccoli, bok choy, shrimp, baby corn, BBQ pork and a clean broth. The chow mien was good and had everything the soup did except for the won tons. A obviously new building amongst the rando pizza and burger joints on Arthur. I just walked in off the street because I wanted to see this Mr. Chinese fellow. He was not in. The staff present, although very busy, were friendly. I assume it was the manager greeted me by name. No I doubt she was psychic, she must have overheard it when I ordered. She said she would get me my order right away so I didn't have to wait. My whole transaction took less than 5 minutes. I got chicken balls. The food, not the condition. They were huge and delicious. If you want a clean, new, friendly place to stuff your gord with tasty Asian like foodstuffs, this is a solid choice. read more

Worst Chinese food we have ever eaten. Won ton soup was flavorless. Spring rolls were over cooked. Pork short ribs were mostly fat and gristle. Fried rice was too salty. The staff was friendly, though. We cannot recommend this restaurant, even though they seemed to be busy on a Saturday evening. read more

This family has done a fantastic job! They just renovated within the last year or two and it's amazing! Chicken fried rice and classic canadian Chinese cuisine has been amazing since I was a kid. I will always support the family. The service and food has been awesome. People fear unfortunate food issues when it comes to Asian cuisine in Tbay due to China house, for no reason. Enjoyed a dinner here while in T.Bay on business. We tried a combination of fried rice, egg rolls and a dish that had a mixture of chicken balls, shrimp, greens. The egg roll was the best I've had in a ling time. It was different from the typical bean sprout filled roll in a good way with a savory filling. The fried rice was freshly prepared and nicely seasoned. Chicken balls were huge and filled with breast meat. My only request would be that they add ginger tea to the menu. Service was decent. I ordered # 20 - consume with noodles for $3.99, it was ok. I ordered off the lunch $9.50 menu which included 2 items. I choose H - Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs & Chicken with greens. That was the worst dish I have ever experienced. I come with experience as I have dined in China Towns in Vancouver, Toronto, & Winnipeg so I know quality ingredients when served. This was not quality food. The ribs were battered which I was suspicious of. When I bit into them, they comprised mostly of fat & grizzle. The greens consisted mostly ends of bok choy, onions, three slices of carrots & a bit of broccoli - like really? To the owner / quality control agent - If the restaurant business in no longer your thing - then get out of it. It was better food when the mother was steward there & the daughter up front. Terrible food: bland flavours, fatty/gristly meat (which really was inedible) and super greasy. We had beef with greens, chicken balls, egg rolls and wonton soups, and none of it tasted good. Being from Toronto, I'm spoiled with the variety of Chinese food. Often I get a craving for some Canadian Chinese food so I decided to stop by Mister Chinese. However, very disappointed. Order wonton soup, and it was extremely salty. I had to dilute it with hot water and ended up making 2 extra bowls. I also ordered the chicken chow mein and instead of getting chow mein, I got those yellow cracker strips that you place in soups and a box of stir fry mushroom and chicken with baby corn... I have tried most Asian restaurants in Thunder Bay but Mr. Chinese is by far the worst! I went there 2 months ago to get my take out order that I ordered from Chinese Express (they are right next door to each other, I didn't realize I went to the wrong restaurant) and they acted like there was some kind of mix up and asked for my order again, and then said that they were just cooking it. So I had to sit for about 20 minutes and right after I got my food and left, the original restaurant I ordered from, Chinese Express called me to tell me my order was waiting to be picked up for 30 minutes. I felt really bad that I made the mistake but it was pretty much too late. It was really shady of Mr. Chinese to act like they had my order already cooking. They could have just told me they didn't get a call from me and maybe I had made a mistake. Maybe it's just me, but thats bad business. So anyways... A week ago I went back because some friends of mine wanted to go. We walked into their new building and stood around the from lobby for about 5-10 minutes. It wasn't even that busy, and two of the waitresses walked right by us and didn't even say hi. She finally greeted us without a smile and told us to sit wherever, then took another 10 minutes just to take our drink order. Then when taking our drinks she started acting all awkward and kinda flirty. She kept saying hun and sweety and kept touching my buds shoulder, maybe to make up for their lax introduction and still try to get a good tip. I ordered the same thing as last time only to find out it was $2 more and the portions were smaller. On top of that my food was way over done, and my chicken balls tasted like they had been in the frier at least 3 times. I wont ever be going back there again. I don't think it's really worth anyones time and money. Now I know to just stick to Chinese Express, the one on the corner. Way better food, prices, and its way faster! read more

I was stuck at the Comfort Inn for the evening due to a snow storm so I didn't venture out too far for food. Mr. Chinese was right there so I went for it. Ordered a Coke and combo number 1, chicken chop suey, chicken fried rice and chicken balls. Also grabbed an egg role. Service was great and the food came out fast. Huge portion. Everything tasted great and was made using fresh veggies. The s&s sauce was on the side and was ketchup based, something that was new to me. It was good, just a little odd. I could only finish have of the meal. The only issue with this place is the prices. They are a good 5-6$ more than what other places charge. Cut down on the portion sizes and lower the cost a little would be my suggestion. read more

My favourite Chinese restaurant in the city. I always order the plain fried rice and the plain mixed greens and they are delicious! Very consistent, have never been disappointed. :( Im so not impressed with this new place. The look was awesome but the food was terrible. It was NOT cooked to order which Chinese food should be as it takes 3 min in a wok. It was totally stone cold which was the first clue...PLUS it came out way to fast...they were pre-cooking bins and filling plates buffet style in back except for the 2 dishes we ordered that they had to make fresh. ( Those were steaming hot, but salty and watery ) I sent my combo back to be re-done and 2 min later it came back with the sauce I had already put on the CB...saying they had redid the chop suey in the wok for me... ( It was still congealed and cold and had doubled in size ) and I do mean COLD!!! disgusting!!! I was there 5-6 months ago at old place and the dinner came out way faster than they could have made it fresh but at least it was hot. Sorry but Chinese food should be MADE TO ORDER!!! I sent my dinner back...and one other dish back...they took it off my bill....and could only say that " Its all made onsite" LOL Ummm...When??? Yesterday???
