He took care of a couple minor things in a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable price. He's now our first call for any other home improvement projects that drop up. He is a nice guy and during one of our chats told me he and his gf lived in a trailer behind Home Depot and heating bills were high. His gf did not work. I felt bad and told him that if I was satisfied with his work, I would let him replace my patio. Up to that point the paint job he did was fine. Covid hit and future work had to be temporarily halted. I asked him several times to return my key but he never did. I found out why. He and his gf and pets were squatting and partying in my home. The white berber carpet was now dark gray with cigarette ashes and pet stains. The bed was unmade and the new bedspread and sheets stained with bodily fluids. The new carpet in the bathrooms had apparently been saturated with water and there was mold. The toilets were not only stained but one upstairs toilet that Jon had gone with me to pick out and make sure I got the right one leaked all over the floor and stained the ceiling beneath. I suppose living in a beautiful townhome with central air and heat sure beats a trailer. Glassware and items used to stage the home were also missing. Other then myself, the only other person with a key was Jon. I immediately called the police and made a police report. They told me I could press charges but since for all intents and purposes Jon was indigent, the only thing that would happen is a bit of jail time. I would never recover for the damage he had done. It was the LAPD that suggested I write a review. BTW, Jon also mentioned that on another occasion he was accused of entering a home he was working on w/o permission and actually causing more damage then he had been hired to fix. This couple threatened to sue Jon and refused to pay him. When Jon told me this story, I believed he had been wronged but now not only do I wish the couple had left a review, I wish I had seen the red flag. As the police suggested, I posted a review last year which Jon responded to via a private message ( which I kept) laden with expletives and wishes that I die. He also managed to get my honest review removed. I have learned a very valuable lesson. From now on I will only use professional people or people recommended by someone I personally know. In my effort to save a few dollars, I ended up spending a whole lot more to replace carpeting, toilets, towels, bedspread, sheets and pillows and repair the mold and ceiling stains. It's too easy to get a group of friends to write stellar reviews and Yelp does not vet its businesses. All I can say is caveat emptor. Do your due diligence and by all means if you insist on hiring Jon, do not entrust him with your key, and make sure someone is on the premises when he is there.

Gil kept making excuses, and even after I gave him ultimatum over a month later he still did not pick up the concrete for disposal. That's gonna cost me another $80 to get someone else to remove it. DO NOT let Gil do any electrical work in or outside of your home. Aside from other outlets in our home not woking after he "fixes" the one you need fixed, he also replaced a breaker with the wrong kind and it blew our motor to our pool pump. That cost $350 for the pump and $150 for the electrician to fix the breakers and wiring. Seems like a nice guy up front, but don't fall for it.

Before I get…read morestarted, I want to clarify, I've seriously held off on writing this review for a long time now (since Sept 12, 2015 to be exact), because I truly wanted to give Gil at chance. Not to mention, I am not one to write reviews much in the first place. However, I would like to warn others of this business. When Gil first came over, me and my husband though, "Wow, this guy is a godsend." He was prompt and came when he said he would, moreover, he came early. That was very different from our previous handyman, who didn't even bother to call to say he's still running late an hour passed the schedule arrival time. In our interaction with Gil, we thought he was honest. We were wrong. The day Gil came to fix our stuff (kitchen sink leak, tightening the sink heads, calibrating the ceiling fans so they don't shake so much, and our guest shower that didn't work), we paid him $260 for his services. Also, the guest shower wasn't fixed, because it needed a replacement part which I gave Gil $100 in advance for. At the time, we were really satisfied with his services. He said he would return on Monday to help us fix the shower and recalibrate the fans after he did some research online. Later on that day, I learned from our real estate agent, who had called to check in on us, that we had a one year warranty that came with our recently purchased house. I immediately called Gil and apologized for the inconvenience and let him know that though I won't be using his services, I am extremely happy to recommend him to a few friends. I also told him he could just drop off the money and the parts he took from the shower on Monday. Come Monday, Gil did not show. He responded to my text message saying he had an emergent job and could not make it, but will call me later that night to reschedule. I could understand. But, the call did not happen. The next day, I texted and called him again. No response. It was not until I mentioned that I had recommended him to a friend who needed a lot of repairs done, did he respond. He said he was under the weather and would call again to reschedule. By this time, I was already frustrated and upset by the experience. He was unprofessional. After much stress and discussion with my husband, we had decided it wasn't worth it to get the money back from him. He is dishonest and unprofessional and we'd rather not waste time or energy on someone like this. Not to mention, he is a hypocrite whom swears that he would not do dishonest things because it wasn't "worth going to hell for". For those who consider using Sunny Boy Home Repair, BEWARE! I warn you, think again. Til this day, we have neither gotten our $100 for parts he did not buy back, nor the parts he took with him. The sink heads are loose again, the leak in the kitchen sink was a two part problem he only solved one of, and the fans were a half-a** job as he never returned. Gil, if you're reading this, keep the money and the parts. We don't want anything to do with you again!
