A bit late with this review but around end of September 2020, I needed to get my shower re-grouted and came across Mr. Handy NYC on Yelp. I have to say, they are the most professional, friendly and dedicated team of workers I have come across. I dealt with Wiggy initially over the phone and then Wiggy's dad and brother (Josh) were assigned to get the job done. I know re-grouting may not be an intense task for some, but for many (including myself) who are not as handy, its a serious job which needs to get done right. Let's just say, Mr. Handy NYC (Wiggy's dad and Josh) did an amazing job. Josh spent approximately 2 days to ensure the job was precise and flawless. Last but not least, they are reasonably priced and best part is that they are right down the street from where I live so I know down the line if/when I need other renovations done in my house, Mr. Handy NYC will be my go to folks!! I hired Mr. Handy NYC to repaint my apartment and replace my closet doors. I was required to pay 50% up front. The paint process went fine and they did a good job. Unfortunately, after that things have gone significantly downhill. When the painters left they pushed all of my living room furniture to the middle of the room and said when the crew came back the following week to paint the baseboards and install the doors they'd put everything back. That happened on March 22nd. Since then, week after week they keep promising to try to come back and week after week they are no shows. I even explained to them that our building is expected to have a freeze on construction projects this week due to an impending strike so can they please wrap up this job before then, and they said yes but are now not responding to emails. I hope they ultimately make good on their service contract and I will update this review if that happens. For now, please steer clear, fellow yelpers. read more

Just moved to the City and I needed help assembling furniture, fixing light fixtures that didn't work, installing pictures, and various other handyman work. This company is exactly what you want if that's what you need. First of all they confirm all appointments with text, email, etc so there's constant communication. Second they price by the hour, which means if you have a lot of work you can keep the company going and you pay for that, if you have less you pay less. So you control how much you pay. Third their technician Avel was very talented and careful. He used laser tape measures to hang all my canvass photos perfectly. If you do it perfect it actually takes time! He fixed all the doors that wouldn't close, found the rare LED bulbs I was missing, assembled furniture like a pro, and basically brought my apartment back to 100%. We all have a list of things we live with that we don't like and need fixing. Imagine in 1 day it's all fixed. I can't thank the team at Handy NYC enough, all I can say is you will not go wrong with them, I don't have a single complaint, and they deserve their perfect 5-star rating! read more

These guys seemed great at first. We hired them to patch a hole, paint a wall, and install some shelves-not hard work. They came, did a terrible job painting the wall, promised they would come back to fix it, and then blew us off every time we tried to contact them. Three hundred dollars later we did we ended up doing the work ourselves. This was a terrible experience. Though the name rubs me the wrong way (no pun intended), Mr. Handy is no joke. I have virtually zero knowledge about handymen and what kind of knowledge/skill set is required of a handyman, but I think it's safe to say that Wiggy and his team have it. Wiggy himself is all things awesome: responsive, efficient, knowledgeable and just generally a cool dude. Yelp does not lie about these guys! I emailed Wiggy about a couple of jobs I needed done for my new apartment: putting up my curtain rods/curtains, mounting my TV on the wall, and hanging a few pictures. He got back to me almost immediately and was incredibly flexible with time. I actually ended up needing to cancel our first appointment due to a work conflict, but he was incredibly understanding. Last week, we finally confirmed a time, and we were quite literally, in business. Wiggy made sure to check what my walls were made of beforehand, which ended up making a big difference - props for thoroughness. Wiggy ended up bringing another guy with him but assured me I wouldn't have to pay double (I didn't). He apologized for being late initially, though he only came 10 minutes after our scheduled time. I'm so used to people giving me delivery windows and showing up at the least opportune times, so I was completely fine with this - I just appreciated the commitment to customer service, overall. Because they were so efficient, the "tardiness" didn't end up mattering. I won't walk you through their step by step (because...why?), but I'll just reiterate that Wiggy and his partner were quick, professional and personal. Everything looks perfect, and this comes from someone with an OCD mother who is obsessed with design. In other words: if something is crooked, I notice. Immediately. He didn't end up mounting my TV, because as it turns out, an "articulating wall mount" (I learned a new term that day, so this was educational, too!) isn't compatible with a concrete/plaster hybrid wall. Apparently, that combo results in a falling TV. Which is really never a good thing unless a screenwriter decides it works for dramatic effect. So I'll need to schedule a new job once I have the right mount, but thankfully I know I can expect fantastic service from Wiggy and his team once the mount arrives. Lastly, I'd say the price is quite reasonable. $70 per hour with a two-hour minimum. In New York, that's a damn good deal. read more

These guys are so awesome. Reached Wiggy by email and he was super responsive / easy to schedule. They came by (on a Saturday!!) and put up some art and hung some shelves / two mirrors, one of which was pretty big (48 inches round). I am super OCD and notice stuff like when things are a tiny bit crooked or slightly off center, and can definitively say their work looks perfect. They were so careful / respectful in our apartment and made sure to clean everything up before they left. Definitely will call them again. read more

I reached out with details of a few things we needed to get done. Electrical and tile work mainly. Took the time to provide photos and measurements. The first email was promising because they responded right away saying Wiggy will follow up with me. Instead weeks later I followed up, then I followed up again and again. Finally I got an answer saying they will get back to me. I reached out end of July, then again in August...now its September and 7 emails later no one got back to me. They have good reviews from most people on yelp so I am pretty disappointed with the poor customer care. I really don't think anyone should be having to do so much work to hire a handyman company. If your company doesn't want to take the job or is too overbooked its simple business etiquette to let the customer inquiring know so no ones time is wasted waiting on a response. Perhaps its my bad luck that your company is too "busy?" but nonetheless you've lost a customer. read more

On day 3 of what was estimated (in person) as a 2-day paint and patch job for a crew that'd been painting since 2011, Miguel felt it was a time to disclose that they don't, in fact, handle projects like mine: "We're handymen; not painters." The project ended up lasting 15 days. Miguel came for a walk-through pre-project and knew exactly what it would entail. He assured me this was within his wheelhouse. We were pretty disappointed. Miguel and his crew were sloppy. They neglected to remove outlet covers and dripped paint on the gangplanks below their workspace and everywhere they cleaned brushes. They had to be asked several times to paint a second coat. They struggled to paint in straight lines. I'd say to use these guys for wall patching and super simple paint jobs. If your job is one you think you could probably paint yourself but you want to hire someone so you don't have to spend your weekends doing it, Miguel will probably be just what you're looking for. He's friendly and takes direction well, and he patched well. But he's not good at assessing the limitations of his experience, so buyer beware. read more

I hired Mr Handy to do some repairs in my apartment. They were not all simple repairs such as hanging pictures, and I sent photos and explicit descriptions. The 2 men who came to my apartment were pleasant, but they could not fix the drawers. I had to hire someone else. They took a part of a recessed can light with them promising to send me instructions on what to order to fix these 2 lights, which they would come back and install. I didn't get the specs nor did I get my light back. I wrote to the manager Joshua about the situation when he sent a bill, but got no answer. I did receive an email apologizing and saying it was his fault after sending another email and this posting. I have requested he send the light back and he has credited me. Lesson: Don't let contractors walk away with things you need unless you know they are definitely coming back! read more

I had a number of small repairs (from a broken cabinet hinge to bathtub caulking) that needed to be done. They gave me a very reasonable quote for the entire job. They are very quick to respond - I was able to send them pictures so they could come to the appointment prepared with the right materials. They will even buy the pieces if you don't have them. I unfortunately got the day wrong and called them and they readily re-scheduled with me another day and time over the phone. On the day of.... I received a text that a ninja was on his way! Avel arrived on time and had all his tools in his backpack. Avel hung 2 Elfa top tracks and a very large mirror for me. He even brought some toggle bolts to use as I wasn't sure what I had would work. He also leveled everything with a laser. I really can't say enough nice things about Avel. He was courteous, and kind and knew what he was doing, and got it all done so quickly. He even bonded with my very curious kitty cat who was underfoot. Do not hesitate to contact Mr. Handy. The world of handymen is fraught with poor response times, unprofessional behavior and poor skills. None of that here - top flight response, top quality work. Highly recommended. I had to have a solid-core set of doors removed and carefully cut down in size to clear new carpet being laid. This requires good tools, precision measuring and superior care to ensure the final cuts do not maul the door. The results blew away my expectations. From the moment I messaged Wiggy, he was very courteous and I told him exactly what I was looking to do in my apartment. I had a very big project that involved assembling chairs from Ashley Furniture, hanging up glass shelves, installing whiteboards, installing spice racks, installing corner shelves, installing a bathroom mirror, hanging up the Elfa racks from The Container Store, installing shower corner shelves into the tile, etc. Wiggy was able to schedule for Mari to come the same day when I called. None of the other vendors I called had that availability. Only Mr. Handy NYC was able to offer same-day service! The person who came to do the job was Mari. He was OUTSTANDING!!! He measured everything precisely so it would be perfect. He used the leveler on everything to confirm it was perfect. He took off his shoes when he entered our apartment. He even collected the dust after he would drill a hole through the wall to hang up a shelf. He worked close to 15 hours on this project. Mari never complained, he was super nice, and his work was excellent! Going forward, this will surely be my #1 phone call and #1 GO-TO SERVICE for using a handyman. I called up wiggy one Saturday afternoon because I had a few projects around the apartment to tackle. He was able to come later that afternoon with his partner mike and they did a wonderful job. Wiggy was incredibly professional and kept me up to date with his ETA. They brought their own tools including nails etc. and we're able to finish about 6-7 projects within an hour and a half (taking a door off the hinges, installing a curtain rod, installing an ikea lack shelf, installing an ikea norbo wall table, and hanging a handful of pictures including a very heavy clock). It was clear that they were both experienced and answered all of our questions. Not to mention that they were both incredibly nice and fun to have around. Wiggy even texted me when he realized later we had overpaid him- and he venmod me back the money. I think that's the perfect demonstration of his professionalism and character. At 39 weeks pregnant, I was desperately nesting and needed to have a bunch of items hung in our difficult apartment walls. I went on the website and they had no availability. I texted, explained the situation and they instantly committed to having someone out to our apartment the same day. Lester hung all the frames exactly how a picky pregnant woman wanted them and was the most lovely possible. I hung a lot of empty frames to house pictures of the baby. Lester even modified the frames and added wire so I could easily take the frames down after the baby arrived. I have used Mr. Handy multiple times and will continue to do so. They are incredibly pleasant, professional, always do excellent work and leave the apartment cleaner than it was before they did the work. They are overall amazing and I highly recommend. read more

I emailed to inquire about them hanging some items on tile (which required drilling). When I followed up to clarify whether they were insured and whether the coverage would replace any tile they inadvertently cracked during the drilling at no cost to me they asked to see a picture of the tile. When I sent over the photo (which shows large tiles) they didn't write back for a month. When I followed up after a month to see if they could still do the job they said yes they are insured and capable of doing the job but are booked, thereby ending our discussion. I hadn't specified a time or anything for needing the service so obviously they just don't want to do my job but don't want to say why.
