    Laundry room renovation
    Sandra R.

Mr Chen from HS NYC Construction did a spectacular job renovating our basement and laundry room. They got rid of our nasty carpet and put in new waterproof vinyl flooring, did all the painting, moldings and also fully renovated our laundry room in a reasonable price. We got several quotes and did some investigation prior and do not regret our choice. They were punctual, hard working, reliable, got the job done timely, cleaned up and did what we asked/discussed. They also provided us with invoice and receipts whenever payment was made. We primarily communicated through Lydia and she was pleasant to deal with. Any concerns we had were addressed through her quickly. We were very pleased with the result, we subsequently hired them to do our bathroom renovation as well. Caulking, replacing the hardware accessories, shower and sink faucets and countertop. Our bathroom looks brand new and we are extremely pleased with the results. Thank you HS Construction. We will not hesitate to hire them again for our next renovation.

    Buckled wainscoting along a wall.

We needed repair to buckled wainscoting along a wall and a fix for an interior door. I hadn't been fully satisfied by the last two contractors I had used for similar jobs so I decided to try a new company. I sent out a job request here on Yelp with an explanation of the two jobs plus pictures. I received a lot of responses but they all said they would do only one of the two jobs (because the company did walls only, not doors; or doors only, not walls) or they wanted to schedule nearly a month later. I wasn't in a rush to get the jobs done but HS NYC Construction said they could do both jobs, gave me a pretty fair estimate, and then scheduled with me for the very next day. So I chose them! The team (3 people, 2 men and 1 woman) arrived a few minutes before the scheduled time and they got right to work. The work was explained to me, when there was more than one way to do something that was explained to me so I could make a choice, and my interactions with the team were very pleasant. Both jobs were completed to my 100% satisfaction including clean-up: I had almost nothing to do once they were done! I added a small amount over the quoted price because I was so pleased. The only suggestion I could make relates to how they answer their phone: "Hello!" or "Yes?" is OK if you're answering your home phone I suppose, but when I call a business I want to know I didn't dial a wrong number without having to ask three times to whom I'm speaking. "Hello! This is HS NYC Construction. May I help you?" would be much better. When we have another job I'll get in touch with these guys first. We're very happy with both the results and the price.

They did an amazing job fixing my apartment before I ended my lease! My walls and baseboards were damaged after my dog chewed them when she was a puppy, and they look perfect now! They took care of everything, protected my floors as soon as they got in, got the paint to match my apartment's, and left everything super clean. And they had the most competitive quote! I highly recommend them!

Lydia and the team were a pleasure to work with, responsive from start to finish and very accommodating to a few design changes mid-project.

I hired NJH to repair damage to a restored antique mahogany staircase in my house…read more The newel post at the end of a section of the banister had separated from the handrail and was loosed at the base. That made this section of the banister wobbly, unsafe and prone to further damage. Prior and now failed repairs with mastic and nails were an eyesore and calling for further restoration work. Ben with Kellam's supervision closely conferred with me how to do the best structural and cosmetic restoration of the banister. They dismantled the newel post from the handrail and the mounting of the post to the staircase frame, and removed old nails and mastic from the post rails joint all without damage. To remove the post, they had to remove stapled carpeting and a stair tread that they replaced without damage at the end of the job. They very securely remounted the newel post with corner backets under the stair tread and long bolts into its base covered with matching round plugs. Having so securely remounted the post and restoring the post to rail mortise and tendon, the handrail was solidly secured without the further use of mastic, nails or screws. With a few touchups to old wood putty, they then managed to remove obvious evidence of prior repairs. As this section of handrail may need a restoration replacement to match the quality of the other staircase handrails, their method of reconnection rail to the post will allow for less problematic handrail replacement without damage.

They put a great amount of effort into excellent communication, being on time and above all, making sure the job was done right. I appreciated receiving mms messages about clocking in/out, photos of the work as it progressed, etc... I won't hesitate to call them for other jobs as they come up.
