YEEHAW (YES I WENT…read moreTHERE) I first heard rumblings of a glorious little cafe serving all forms of Americana on a plate, but for this CBD Snob the location threw a spanner in the works of my visiting plans. Yes, Moonah's only ten minutes down the highway but for a Tasmanian... it's a whole TEN MINUTES down the highway!? Sigh. I finally pencilled in a visit en route north last month, and I've now been twice in two months so that should tell you that it's pretty darn good. My first order was the Reuben, because if somewhere's got a Reuben on their menu then it needs to be taken for a run. Yes, very good. Not too shabby at all. I WILL shove that Reuben and a bunch of waffle fries into my mouth, thank you. On my return visit I tried a similar feat with the Cubano and ended up having to take half of it away with me. Defeated! DEFEATED BY A SANDWICH! (It wasn't quiiiiiite as tasty as the Reuben but it got pretty close.) I'm all for the sandwiches but the waffle fries haven't really won me over... I want to like them, but they taste a little too much like cardboard for me to be able to embrace them. Plus I made the mistake of taking some away with the other half of my sandwich and cold waffle fries are super unpleasant (but so are all cold fries, right? Blech). STILL, the sandwiches are good enough for a return visit, and the service is really sweet and cheerful! Plus last time I was in, the cook poked his head out of the kitchen for a chat with another guest and holy dooley, if that wasn't a legitimate accent from the US of A he was sporting then my ears are out of whack. Don't mess with Texas, man. Get stuck into this menu. Open for lunch Tuesday to Saturday, dinner Thursday to Saturday, and breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays. I'd advise to make a reservation if you're wanting to dine in for dinner, because it's a pretty small space, but the two times I've been for lunch there's been plenty of room.

A traditional pub located in the heart of the trendy Salamanca market area. We wanted something…read morereally casual for our first night in Hobart and this fit the bilL. I requested a booking online bUt it wasn't really necessary on a midweek evening at the end of January. Instead of the nice table inside, we grabbed a spot outside on the great shaded patio. Burgers and sandwiches make up most of the menu and tHere are several versions of sliders as well. We chose the eye of beef filet sliders, a side order of chips (thick cut fries) and a Cesar salad. The salad particularly tasted good after a long couple of days off traveling. Overall the food was decent but nothing all that special or memorable. Nonetheless the atmosphere was great with lots of locals grabbing pints of beer after work and enjoying the beautiful weather.

We eventually got a table and began to browse the menu, none of the burgers sounded all that appealing and were all very expensive for a burger, even before adding fries/drinks. One of us ordered their biggest burger (over $22) and when it came out, it didn't look good, they said the patties and other ingredients tasted burnt and the bread was old. For a place in Salamanca, this was a poor experience and we will not be returning, how they're in business I have no idea.

We came here for a late breakfast/early lunch. It is somewhat more of a refined cake and dessert…read moretype bakery, and the dessert items did look fabulous in the case. For breakfast however, it wasn't very good for me as there were very limited lower carb/higher protein items. We ordered an almond croissant and a sausage and shiraz roll along with a flat white coffee. We sat outside as they didn't have the AC running and it was really way too warm inside. They have table service inside and servers that run out the food you had ordered at the counter. They were all super friendly and even asked if everything was satisfactory as they cleared our table. Unfortunately, neither of the baked goods were great. The almond croissant had a nicely laminated dough although it needed a tad of salt. The dough was buttery however lacking flavor most likely due to a lack of salt in the butter they used in the dough. The filling was almost like really dense cake batter with basically no almond flavor - the texture seemed almost right, maybe they forgot the almond paste or almond extract. We are used to a much, much stronger flavored almond croissant with almond paste inside. There were nicely toasted almond slices on the top. The sausage roll was a real disappointment. Although it looked really nice it was very heavy, seemed greasy and had two fundamental flaws. The dough was too thick around the sausage so when they wrapped it and baked it there was way too much dough and it was actually nearly raw all along the bottom edges. The sausage was not crumbled or taken out of the casing so when you bit through the roll (or even cut it as we did) the entire sausage slipped right out of the dough and left a big empty hole! It did have nice caramelized onions and some herbs or spinach (didn't eat enough to know exactly!) between the dough and sausage - they might have contributed to the wet/raw sogginess of the dough if they were not cooked enough and then released water into the dough. They were very gracious when I asked if I could get a refund for the sausage roll as I could not find anything else I wanted to get as a replacement. Our server could not have been any more professional and nice about it. He got approval from his manager and gave us the refund. The flat white was very good. If I needed to eat some lovely desserts I'd give them another try given their professional staff and good service.
