My daughter and I were running around doing some errands and we wanted craving some donuts. I looked up on Yelp and found Mr. J's Donut House. Based on the reviews, we decided to go. Mr. J's Donut House is located at a shopping center across from Big 5 on Alabama St and Redlands Blvd. There was plenty of parking spots in my personal opinion. When we get there, we were attended by Vincent. I ordered 3 donuts and some donut holes. Upon checkout, Vincent was very kind to my daughter that he gave her extra cream puffs. His generosity was very welcomed and my daughter was smiling and said Thank You. Our overall experience was great and the customer service received by outstanding. In my personal opinion, I would recommend Mr. J's Donut House. The donuts when we took the donuts home, they were made fresh and the made the experience memorable. Loved the variety, they have a few things many donut shops don't have. I like blueberry cake donuts and it was nice to see they had them as the donut shop near me doesn't. This is a busy parking lot on a busy intersection; use your GPS for best way to get to this location. Even though I was there for an apple fritter, I liked the wide variety of donuts that they offered. While eating there, we saw a customer pick up his pre-ordered lunch togo and few employees from other local stores come in for mid-morning snacks - FYI. We started with their apple fritter. It was the appropriate size: large. But perhaps not as dense as some others. The outer edge was crunchy, as expected. The glazing was sweet but not super sweet (but here's where opinions may differ their glazing isn't as sweet as what I expected - which may suit some tastes better). The bottom side was a bit dry and the inside was barely moist. There were fair-sized apple bits distributed throughout the fritter. This fritter was okay. We finished with a chocolate cake donut. The icing was very chocolatey and was sweet, but not overly sweet. The cake donut was also chocolate but was mildly flavored. The cake donut, itself, was lighter than other cake doughs. read more

Best donuts in Southern California, hands down. Ignore the haters - they only like things shiny and new, regardless of quality. What you get at Mr. J's is QUALITY. These donuts are the same quality and lightness that they were when I first had them as a teller in college, when a Saturday manager brought them to the office for everyone - and I've been hooked since then. The atmosphere is perfect so ignore the haters - the shop is in an older building and the ambiance is fine. The place is clean and their donuts are perfect. Best cream filled puffs. Soft moist airy dough and tasty vanilla flavor filling, topped with a touch of chocolate glazing just melts in your mouth. Egg roll with bits of ground meat (beef?) and veggies nicely cooked ( hint of sweetness from veggies' caramelization) leaves that flavorful taste in your mouth. Take away is wrapper isn't crunchy anymore (soft and saggy). Place clean and organized but cold reception by lady in front (shy maybe? Or busy?) The donuts are terrible and taste like they are two days old. They are so overcooked they were shriveled up. Update: I've been back 2 times since this review and I can confirm that their apple fritters have improved! There's more apple chunks in the fritters and are perfectly cinnamon apple-y :) I also tried their bearclaws and they just be the best I've ever had. Normally this place is pretty good, but today my boss brought us all donuts. Let me just say I was so freaking disgusted. There was a hair in my donut. My mind immediately tried justifying it. This is our favorite redlands donut shop! We come here at least once a week. The donuts are always fresh, probably because they are extremely popular and busy so they are constantly making them. As others have mentioned, I especially love their homemade egg rolls. Ask for plum sauce on the side! The staff are wonderful and kind. They are always very sweet to my kids. I was super excited to try this place because of the reviews, but honestly this place is average. The bars are long and thin, the frosting was thin on the maple bars. When I get a maple bar I want a thick doughnut. Its ok if its short, I want some doughnut. They take card which is a plus and the doughnuts were fresh thats a plus. They also have hot and cold drinks as well as your standard drinks in the case. They also do lotto if that is your thing, scratchers only I believe. They also allow you to choose fancier doyghnuts for an upcharge, 1 dozen mixed only cost 13.95 so thats q good deal to me. This was about to be my go to spot for amazing pastries and donuts. But it seems they changed how they do things without any notice and overcharge for what they offer now. That's fine, I won't be spending $50 there again. Now don't get me wrong the donuts are good so are the egg rolls. But the rudeness that was displayed when trying to understand their changes to their policies will not be taken. I hope other people of color find other places to go to for sweets. The shop is filthy. The bathrooms are filthy. The woman who helps run the shop (owners wife) is extremely rude. She never smiled, had a palpable contempt for me despite me buying a dozen donuts for my coworkers and tipping her well. I couldn't figure out why she'd be rude to a smiling paying customer.
