Their Goto is also great! Flavorful and served fresh to our table, you just won't care how hot the soup is, you just want to dig in and savor the deliciousness of the dish. The only negative thing that I noticed are the faces of their servers. As always, they lacked friendliness and they had this irritated look in their faces like we are a bother to them. If it were not for the delicious food, I would have encouraged my party to leave and find a friendlier place.

The sisig on rice was okay, but I wish there was a bit more sisig compared to the amount of rice. The place was packed though, so clearly a lot of people keep coming back for a reason. I'd still be open to returning and trying some of their other ulam next time.

    Amazing experience with a seasonal, regional Philippine menu…read more Please note that the restaurant is at the Power Plant mall and no longer in Quezon City. Went for a nice dinner. Entrance is on the 7th floor next to the Power Plant mall. Was greeted at the door and was shown a tour of their kitchen and briefly met the chefs making the night's meals. The dinner was 9 courses, with several appetizer type dishes, a palate cleanser, the main course, finishing with dessert. The restaurant changes their menu every 6-8 months, with our menu being inspired by the Western Mindanao region of the Philippines. First was a beef tinola soup. This is typically chicken, so was a different vibe. It was more of a stock than just soup, and it was very rich. Good way to start the meal off. The next course was 4 types of satti (skewers). Satay vibes, was very well bbq'd with the meats being beef tongue, beef cheek, chicken tail, and another chicken part (don't recall unfortunately). Agal agal (seaweed) and tuna was next. This was a refreshing salad with bits of tuna slices mixed in. An egg noodle dish was after the salad. Some more seaweed (different variety). Had a nice texture and the noodles were well made. The following dish was a play on roti - with it being like a sandwich, with layers of roti and filling, with a bed of veggies and cheese on top. This was really well made. Léché flan was the palate cleanser. Honestly could have had this for dessert also, it was really creamy and sweet. The main was next - banana leaf rice with a fried prawn, a beef stew, and grapefruit slaw. We had a shrimp allergy, so we were also provided some scallops with hollandaise sauce. Funny enough, I think the scallops rocked the most - though all the dishes were amazing. There were two desserts, one was a Zamboangan play of halo halo with a berry ice cream. The other was a set of chocolates with some local coffee. Everything was delicious. We also had a couple pinot noirs and the banana pandan old fashioned. The wines were decent, but the old fashioned was legit. Would def recommend it. All in all, a fantastic experience and hope to relive the experience again soon!

They support our local farmers up north by ensuring that they have a steady demand for their crops, while Good Food brings them to us here in Manila in convenient bayongs, juice packs or salad packs. Their veggie bayongs are amazing. I've had the best, sweetest kamote I've ever had through them. And, what's great is that if you are inclined to try more adventurous types of veggies, sometimes they have less popular crops and herbs included in the bayong. They also have juice packs - for those people who like to juice, and salad packs, which are easier to prepare if you're not up for a whole bayong of veggies that require legit cooking. I really admire their efforts to help farmers, and provide fresh, organic local produce weekly. They have drop off hubs all over Metro Manila, mostly Makati, Manila and northwards to QC areas. I'm really hoping they have drop off points in the South soon so I can subscribe! Good Food Sundays however, is a regular gathering initiated by Good Food that brings together small businesses that sell local food in line with their organic/'artisanal'/farm-to-table vision. It's very laid-back and casual, and smaller in scale than other Sunday markets, and the intimate setting is great for getting to know new faces and like-minded individuals.

A couple of biker…read morefriends brought me to what they call "The Mountain Biking Capital of the Philippines" in San Mateo, Rizal (about 10 biking minutes away from Sandigang Bayan in Commonwealth), where a bamboo structured eatery with mountain bikes parked all over, lies on the mountain side. Pedaling uphill through the mountains of San Mateo is no joke. I was dead tired and exhausted the first time I biked there that's why seeing a local eatery along the way was just a relief. Biker's Cafe (one of the four eateries in that mountain) is located at the lower part and is actually an indication that a biker has reached the first stage of the mountain. No wonder a lot of cyclist can be found eating, having coffee or just hanging out there. It has a great mountain view, fresh air and good home-cooked affordable breakfast meals (because cyclist usually hit the road in the morning). There's actually nothing special about the food, only that the cook is commendable for serving really tasty meals. A perfect combination in their menu is Beef Mami and Suman Latik. I don't normally order Mami neither pick kakanin for a snack nor dessert but these two just complements well with the cool morning breeze in the mountain plus the exhausted body's thirst for hot soup and energy booster carbs. Another best seller is the Tapsilog (Beef Tapa, Fried Rice, Egg), which I also highly recommend for the "silog" lovers for breakfast. Biker's Cafe is one of those stop-over eateries that's really made for bikers/cyclist, to eat there is more of an experience especially for beginners in biking. As their tagline says, "This is where bikers meet."

To help relieve couples of headache and stress, caterers and event planners created wedding packages which include amenities and styling, not just food. Clearly, this is now a flourishing business. Attending a wedding expo gave me the opportunity to listen to the sales pitch of various caterers. After a day of talking to a number of them, I was able to limit my options to a few which have value features that come at a reasonable price. One such caterer is M Catering and Fine Foods (under Michelin Cuisine and Fine Foods, Inc). In fairness, I initially thought that it belongs to the unreasonably lavish high-end bracket favored by celebrities and socialites. As a matter of fact, one of the first promo cards they handed me was a picture of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera. Proudly, they claimed to be the caterer to the couple's so-called Royal Wedding. Subsequently, however, I discovered that in terms of value for money deals, M Catering compared favorably with the competitors. It promised amenities and decent theme styling with the absence of a multitude of additional charges that makes calculation more complex than necessary. They had just a few extra charges and they instantly showed me how to do the computation. As far as the menu is concerned, M Catering offers a wide variety of international dishes even for their lowest priced package. This offers relief from the usual run of reception menus of which most everyone is tired by now. Lastly, a word of advice to the wise bride and groom: In looking for a caterer do not simply compare the standard quoted prices but take into account the value of the product and the amenities and styling that come with the package. Most importantly, beware of rules and additional charges that the caterer may have inserted among the fine print.

One morning they had bread and butter pudding squares and the other morning they had taisan bread. Both were so scrumptious!! Our server Harven was a delight! Friendly, got us warm milk, and answered my 6 million questions! We also took pictures in the back patio that overlooked Laguna de Bay. Beautiful views in every direction. They also had pineapple and mango jam! New jam flavors to me that were delicious on my cream cheese filled French toast. While technically indoors, the restaurant opens its large sliding doors in the evening, creating a cool, breezy, open-air feel that makes the space both comfortable and memorable. It's easy to understand why so many couples choose this venue for date nights and proposals. The atmosphere alone is worth the visit. Since we came for an early dinner, we mostly ordered appetizers and dishes for sharing. We started with the Seafood Clam Chowder served in a bread bowl. It was decent and comforting, nothing particularly memorable, but certainly not bad. The Sisig Lumpia was unfortunately the weakest dish of the evening. Good sisig should have some crispness and texture, but this version lacked that signature crunch and came across as overly oily. It was the one dish I probably wouldn't order again. On the brighter side, the Pinchos drizzled with balsamic reduction were flavorful and enjoyable. The Beef Nachos were the star of the savory dishes, generously portioned, satisfying, and perfect for sharing. For dessert, we had the Frozen Brazo de Mercedes, which was a great way to end the meal and easily one of the highlights of our order. Service was excellent throughout. The staff were attentive, warm, and professional, making sure everything flowed smoothly without being intrusive. While the food this visit was a bit mixed, the stunning views, romantic ambiance, and impeccable service continue to make The Nest a place worth returning to. I've dined here before and remember some of their entrées being much stronger than the appetizers we ordered this time, so I'd happily come back and explore more of the menu. The food may not be flawless, but the experience certainly is. For the view, ambiance, and service alone, The Nest earns a solid 4 out of 5 star

I went just to sightsee and thought it was pretty wonderful, a giant, colorful open air market absolutely teeming with life. The place was huge, with what felt like hundreds of vendors selling fish, meat, and produce in tightly arranged stalls. There were lots of people and the occasional cat, and we tourists were in the minority--I think almost everyone else was there to buy or sell food. The produce looked fresh, and there was a robust seafood section. We'd visited the Navotas fish port that morning, and I gather that a lot of the fish caught there make there way to the Farmers Market. We stopped by the food court and picked up mango and green mango shakes at the Fruitas stand. I'm sure we missed out on other excellent eats, but those shakes were delicious. I'll bet you could spend quite some time exploring this Farmers Market. I enjoyed my visit and would recommend the place to anyone living in or passing through Metro Manila.

Open air in that there are no walls so even from the middle you can see the outdoor city streets. There is a ceiling covering the entire market so no food or person will be exposed to the sun and/or elements. The place is huge like at least one city block. Every vendor is its own business, so every stall you go to you will have to make a payment. Also able to haggle if you have any skill for it. I do not but natives...it's in their blood. No card transactions either straight cash, and actually have smaller bills so to make giving change easier. When I said old world, I meant old world! Place is also sectioned off...vegetables in one area, fruit vendors in another, beef, poultry, eggs, fish and shellfish are all grouped by their product. A little overwhelming for me but if you shop here regularly then I suppose you can figure out which vendor works for you, then you can establish a relationship. No shopping carts or even baskets. So bring your own bags. We only brought 1 bag and after buying more shellfish than what we came for, my aunt and I went to the house wares area and bought a small plastic bucket to put our bags of seafood in. We put all our produce in the bag I brought. The nature of the market will give first worlders fits. Nothing is refrigerated and is just sitting out in open air. Even seafood and meats like beef and pork. Just sitting or hanging in open air, and that air is not cool or temperate. Lol. I got a little queasy a few times but it is just how certain countries have been doing it for centuries. Sure there are modern grocery stores here that will rival any grocery store in the US or Europe, but I wanted to see one of these again before my trip ended. It just is in more in touch with regular people, people who are living their daily lives. That is what I wanted to be a part of. Whilst putting down food for my family, I was also able to help another put food on theirs. An exchange I can smile and feel good about. 5 Old World Stars!
