Holy smokes these people work hard!! I had a mess in the front yard, but the back was insane. Ficus trees that were huge and dense (couldn't walk under or see through) with one encroaching on the house. Palms that were sprouting little palms growing where they shouldn't, and weeds...omigosh, the weeds were just depressing in how quickly they sprouted up during one rain, and they were _everywhere_. Plus, in several places, the irrigation was broken. Just looking at this mess was stressful. Mr. Martinez showed how the dense growth of the ficus -- no sunlight, no air -- caused the leaves to be mossy and generally unhealthy. He made other helpful observations during the initial walk-through as well. In the end, his crew needed only two full days (one day plus two half-days) to clean it all up. ALL the weeds: gone...including the ones that tried to masquerade as trees. All the bushes: neatly trimmed. The big ficus trees: neatly cut back and airy (by an arborist). The palms cut back. (And the grossly-overgrown saguaro palms in front, removed.) Dead trees removed. Mulch and wood chips in front. Plus, being that Mr. Martinez is a general contractor, they got a painter to paint the shutters requested by the HOA some time ago. Just a stunning amount of work. Two days. And now the back is almost like a Zen garden (minus the sand and rake) in the feeling of calm and peace that it inspires. Not cheap. But holy smokes are they good. read more

Mr. Martinez and his crew did an incredible job on a huge landscaping project. They planted 56 trees (mix of Podocarpus and Birds of Paradise) along the bottom hill of of our house in addition to installing an industry grade irrigation system that required digging a huge hole down a large hill to water the trees. They also very carefully laid down about 10,000 square feet of turf on a giant hill in addition to 2 other roads after removing large weeds and laying weed netting. Everything took less than 4 days to complete !! Very professional, extremely detail oriented and trustworthy. I cannot wait to hire them for our next home improvement project. In my previous review I mentioned Mr. Martinez Landscaping partially compensated us for the loss of our tree with a payment and removal of the tree they killed. After removing the tree they provided a check for partial replacement, only to put a stop order on the check before I could deposit it. I needed to get a cactus planted that was still in a clay pot that it busted through. The cactus is roughly 7-8 years old and about 6 feet tall. I have used Mr. Martinez Landscaping at my house and my son's house here in Mira Mesa before and they have always done an excellent job at a reasonable price. One of the big pluses with them is that they show up when they promise. Anyway, I had them come out plant this huge, beautiful cactus. As I had lost my wife in November, and this was one of her favorite plants in the yard, I wanted to make sure they were careful and try not to break anything off in the process of the replanting. They came out today, got it planted and did not bust off any of the arms. I am extremely pleased. I would recommend these guys for any work you need done around your house. We have had Mr Martinez and his team out to do four major landscaping projects in the past two years. Every time he and his team are on site when they say they will be and they do the work with excellent quality, no corners cut at all. When they do something you know it will be done right and it will last a long time! The four projects were: first, removing two very large giant birds of paradise and fixing the irrigation and pool pipes they had broken, and also converting an irrigation zone from spray to drip. Second and third projects were building two large block pads to hold large rainwater tanks. Those pads will for sure last longer than my house will! The most recent (I won't say last!) project was to upgrade drainage in several areas (including a channel drain that the original installer (was not Mr M!) should have put in, and build a 33 foot retaining wall. Mr Martinez charges a fair price for the work he does. If you look around you will probably find a lower price but that will almost always come with a downside. I will always call Mr Martinez when I have a big landscaping project. read more

Mr. Martinez and his company did a tremendous job in communicating, understanding and explaining what the job contract was going to be and how much it was going to be. I had no issues with explaining what was needed done for my landscape needs. We needed drainage and connectivity from our newly installed gutters into that drainage for our home as every wet season, we would get huge trenches due to the water coming down from our roof into the soft dirt near our foundation. The work shown in the picture is the final work, as yelp doesn't allow you to upload anything over 20 MB (lame), so I couldn't show the initial process of digging, saw cutting and installation of drainage. We had one issue where the downspout connecting to the gutter drainage was spewing back water (since it wasn't flush fully into the drainage). Mr. Martinez and his team came back within a week to provide a silicone seal connecting the downspout and the drainage gutter, to prevent and spillage of water around the downspout area, this was a concern for us as our foundation is fairly old now... (build in 1974). Overall, I highly recommend Mr. Martinez and his team, and I plan on reaching back out to them for a quote for fencing and other landscape/yard work design that we have in mind! Mr. Martinez Landscaping consists of skilled, knowledgeable, hard-working *magicians*. They've repeatedly done great work since I first found them in 2017; however, they truly blew me away on my latest emergency job - a polybutylene water main leak that left me without water to my house and needing to replace ~75-100' of pipe on a flag-shaped lot. Mr Martinez came out quickly to provide an emergency estimate and recommended an efficient/effective solution that would result in minimal damage. Within hours of hiring them for the job, they were on-site and treating my emergency as theirs. They surgically dug 16" deep trenches, jackhammered sections of bricks, laid new Schedule 40 PVC pipe, backfilled the trenches, reused the grass they were careful to preserve, and laid new bricks. In less than 1.5 days, my water was restored- and you almost can't tell what had to be done. I genuinely cannot thank Mr Martinez and his entire team enough!! Magicians, I tell you. Magicians! Other services I've used: -- Re-landscaping. Mr. Martinez recently worked on our front landscape and if I could give him and his team 6 stars I would! We couldn't be more pleased with the weeks long effort. His is a family operation, professional and knowledgeable in every way but not in the "nickel and dime you way". Mr Martinez and crew showed up everyday at 7 am and he worked "hands on" with his crew for beginning to end for 6 days. Everyone of their crew from Jesse, his son ,who is a contractor in his own right, to Geraldo and the rest of the crew were very professional, whether it came to plumbing, pavers etc. and they all worked together under Mr Martinez's leadership like a well oiled machine. If Mr Martinez had to leave for a while for any reason (which was rare), Jesse and or his wife Carmen would oversee the job. His daughters Lupita and Crystal handled accounting and were on top of any changes. Mr Martinez himself is a great guy, the entire family are "on it". His trucks are spotless clean and he uses only the best materials. We installed over 1250 sq. ft of quality sod (no weeks old HD sod for him ). Irrigation, 40 something tree and shrub planting, drip, and hundreds of feet in bender board. And his spotless trucks, vans and equipment reflects his work ethic. As he advertises, his prices are very reasonable and carry a higher perceived value because the job is done right with an attention to detail that is sorely lacking in other landscapers. I enjoyed reading all the positive reviews on this company, unfortunately I never got the opportunity to experience any of it. I called this company and spoke with Lupita who was very friendly, I explained in detail the turf repair job I had and Lupita instructed me to send her some photos such that Mr. Martinez could review and then determine if a visit to my property would need to occur to estimate the cost for the turf repair or possibly he could determine the cost of the job from my photos. I text Lupita my photos immediately to the number she stated and received a thank you reply and that she would get back to me no later than the next day. Never heard back from Lupita. This occurred on July 29, 2022. I hope this review helps those that contact this company as this review may provide a simple reminder that you may have to keep calling in to get action if you remain interested in doing business. Mr. M and his crew did a fantastic job locating not only the source of the drainage back up, but also installed new lines to help with other areas of my yard. Mr. Martinez and his team built our family the perfect backyard! There are so many great things to say about this company. They are incredibly professional, hardworking, thorough, and so efficient. Our large backyard project was a complete redesign and it included everything: structure demo, tree removal, grading, retaining walls, concrete and DG hardscape, drainage, irrigation, lighting, and planting. We had a design for them to work off of, but knew that there would be a certain amount of adjustments once the project started. Mr Martinez and his crew worked with us every step of the way to make sure it was exactly what we wanted. They told us what was possible and made functional and aesthetic recommendations, and respected our decisions to bring our vision to life. The company is well run and the crew's teamwork is extraordinary. They have an expert in each area that leads that particular portion of the project, for example in grading, concrete, masonry, planting/irrigation, etc. We could tell each was very experienced and highly skilled in his area. Mr. Martinez himself came out every day and was highly engaged with our project. We also love that it's family run. They have great attention to detail and really go above and beyond. For example, they needed to remove our gate and part of the fence to get the equipment into the backyard, and they rebuilt it better and more functional than they'd found it! They communicated with us often, and let us know of any issues that they ran into or any decisions that needed to be made. I know they had other jobs at the same time but they balanced their crew's timing perfectly. It never felt like they were waiting or rushing, and they had more or less guys here depending on what they'd planned for the day. They completed our project ahead of schedule (in 3 weeks!) even though we added additional work to their scope.
