I needed a new lawn and got my standard five bids for the job. Michael stood out for all of his initial input on the options and then for the details of his bid. He was the only one who detailed every item involved in the bid, including update of irrigation. I've had issues in the past with bids for other projects that I assumed included the little details but didn't and then I had to pay extra. Michael's bid included every detail in writing that you would assume would be a part of a new lawn job and it was very reasonable. He also showed up on time for the initial appointment! His crew was great! Their work was very detailed and clean. The job was done within three days and all of the work area, including the driveway, was cleaned up. They even noted my falling-apart fence gate so Michael gave me a very reasonable quote and they did a great job fixing it for me. There were a lot of details for after-care and I've texted Michael multiple times to confirm. He texts back quickly and I never get the impression he's annoyed (I've sent a lot of texts!). I almost wish I had more yard renovations so that I could hire him again! I did discuss a whole-yard mulch job and will absolutely hire Michael when I'm ready for that. No one else who came to give a bid gave a good solution or just didn't know how to do that. So the combination of a good bid and confidence in his knowledge of landscaping made this an easy choice. Ok, I'm not a big review guy, and honestly my wife and I seem to be historically cursed when it comes to contractors or service professionals in general. However, Michael and Cesar and the team at Pacific have seemingly restored our trust, as they knocked our large project out of the park and we could not be happier. We got three quotes, and were expecting Michael's to be the highest relative to his obvious superiority of knowledge and experience when compared to the other contractors. Thus we were surprised when his quote was the lowest of the three, despite being the most thorough and carrying the most confidence in quality of final product. They then delivered in all phases - the project was on time, on budget, and to our high standard of craftsmanship. Michael offered valuable insight to small design tweaks that really added to the overall cohesion and lasting durability of the project. He helped us find opportunities to save costs on unnecessary items while adding value elsewhere. Not every project is absolutely perfect, but any small discrepancies or hiccups (although very few), were handled quickly and professionally and to everyone's satisfaction. The crew was efficient, clean, and very respectful of our property. We needed to get our garden and patio completely redone and after meeting with a couple of contractors, we settled on Pacific Landscaping & Maintenance (PL&M). Michael Moore, the owner explained the design and implementation process and gave us three options for the garden design; two designers that were CAD based and the third designer used good ol' pen and paper. We chose to go with the 3rd option Kirk Neuroth. Michael said that he had a 3-month wait before he could start the job which was OK with us, as we were waiting for some patio pavers and paver pedestals to arrive. We had a couple of city sewer manhole covers to hide on the patio, so we decided to mount the pavers horizontally on variable height pedestals with the concrete base for the pavers set at a 2% grade to drain any rainwater away from the house. PL&M organized the concrete pad framing and the concrete pouring and the result looked great. My wife and I decided to save some $$$ and so we installed all the XL square pavers on the raised pedestals ourselves which took about 10 hours for 45 pavers. Very simple with a spirit level and a screwdriver. PL&M did the rest of the work, including laying pavers on a pathway with thinset, laying other pavers on decomposed granite (DG), cutting and fitting all the paver edge pieces, redoing all the irrigation and drainage, installing lighting, rebuilding a 30ft fence, building additional custom fencing to hide the AC and the automatic driveway gate, grading and planting all new plants, etc. Now it's all finished , the garden looks really great and we're very happy with the result. Just be prepared to wait a couple of months as PL&M is busy with multiple customers and you have to wait until one of PL&M's installation teams is available. read more

How often is a big, complicated project completed on time, on budget, and better than you expected? This was our experience with Michael and his team - and we are totally thrilled with the results. We did a complete overhaul of both our front and back yard, including a massive hardscape project, patio cover, plumbing, irrigation, and electrical. At every stage we were kept in the loop on exactly what was happening and what to expect. We used Yardzen to create our design, and Michael gave us great advice on how to tweak it to make it more functional and cost less to implement. He added little suggestions throughout that we wouldn't have thought of to make the yard more functional and easier to maintain. We had some changes and additions of our own as the project progressed and he rolled with everything, still managing to finish on time despite the fact that we increased the overall scope of the project fairly significantly. Reached out to this business to request a quote for my backyard. It's a large space that I need to have redone. The 1st message I received via the Yelp app was telling me I needed to reach out to a landscape design company with names and numbers of a few companies provided. So I sent my own non Yelp non pre-made message in the hopes that I could make an appointment. I know what I want to do, I just need a quote, I stated in my message exactlywhat I wanted which is pretty basicand common for our area. I don't want or need to pay for a designer to come in. I received a message back telling me basically to source all my materials, drawing etc and submit it to them and they will let me know if they can do the job. I'm going to be spending probably in the neighborhood of $30,000-$40,000 to do this job. I have no clue how I could get the information they want, unless what they want is information from another quote that I got and they will go off that, or I guess be forced to use a design company to do this portion of the job? I don't have any other completed quotes and honestly every person looks at jobs with a different eye and may handle it differently. If this is how they do business, I'll pass and find a company that will take 30-60 mins to come bid the job properly. As of now I have had companies out but don't have the completed quotes back just yet. All I want to do is rip out old concrete, level the yard, put in a putting green for my husband and do pavers on the rest with a few steps up for my dog to get up to the hill. We've got 5 years left in this house before we retire and move out of state, I don't need a whole new design, if we were here for 20 years, sure that would make sense to put more money into the project. So, if you want the extra steps and of course extra cost of having to hire another company to come out to do the "design" this is probably a great fit.
