Pâtisserie Jouri - Inside the almond and raspberry croissant $3.25.

The Long Version: My husband and I stopped by Pâtisserie Jouri on the way home to Ottawa to pick up some pastries for my parents. It was one of two bakeries on our way back and was definitely the best bang for our buck. I got 3 pastries. They were $3.25 each and were gigantic. They were more than twice the size of pastries at other places. I got a raspberry almond croissant, an almond croissant and a pear and custard Danish. The great thing about getting my parents food is that they always offer to share it with us, so getting them food is like getting ourselves food. Haha. I had a small taste of each pastry and they were delicious. Very fresh and flakey. The pear and custard Danish was my favourite, but the others were good too. The croissants had a good amount of ground almond filling. There wasn't too much raspberry filling in the raspberry one, but that's ok because it kept it from being too sweet. Service was efficient. The decor is pretty with faux leather benches and funky light fixtures. Really nice place for a dessert date. There is free parking in front of the bakery, but it's just one row of parking and the street, which is very busy is behind you/in front of the bakery. So it's a bit of a pain to maneuver, especially if adjacent spots are occupied. Review #98 (2025)

Boy, was I blown away by their…read moreawesome hospitality, smiles and their insistance to try mostly anything your heart would desire? This is what I'm talking about! Smiles, warm, friendly and welcoming attitudes with an aim to please service. Surely this kind of treatment puts any customer at ease who will come back for sure. Well, you gotta have very good products too.... They do, they do. Don't worry :) Yasmin Alcham or rather Sham means Damascus' Jasmin in Arabic. They opened up their doors about two weeks ago offering the classic Syrian or more specifically Damascus mini size baklavas and other known sweets like the Barazek cookies. After trying some of the baklavas on the spot, as well as some other splendid looking sweets, I brought home a kilo and sure they were gone within two days. Yep, that's the telltale sign of a good quality grub in my house. The faster the food disappears, the tastier it is. Besides the sweets, they sell stuffed appetizers which I tried and bought a few dozens. Amongst the few selections, the spinach/cheese only with sesames on the outside were the stars. Again, it's something personal. You have to try to choose your own favourite stars. Also worth mentioning, they have a catering service offering some of the labour intensive Syrian dishes. Inquire within. As for the cleanliness, very clean and well maintained. Compact but bursting with varieties and screaming first quality. Conclusion, it's a gem! I sure definitely will be a frequent customer here, frequent to the point of not being close friends with diabetes I hope. Seriously, they have some stuff that gets you hooked easily. I wish them success in their new venture and hope they will keep the smile while offering first quality food without cutting corners. Bon chance!!

Ughh I hate having such high expectations fall short like this. I had heard of madame cannoli from…read morea mtlblog post and really wanted to check it out. I've eaten a lot of cannolis in my life and my nonna use to make some pretty badass ones but being able to choose your fillings and topping that's unheard of ! The concept is great an empty cannoli shell you get your choice of filling choice of topping and drizzle or chose a premade flavour like birthday cake tiramisu etc. I was so excited I had get 4 flavours to try out. I got three pre made flavours birthday cake, cookies and cream, and tiramisu and made a build your own of salted caramel white chocolate flakes and salted caramel drizzle. I wish I could say that they were great but they fell short every filling was pretty bland in taste and really needed some sugars and flavours even some vanilla essence could have helped. The toppings and drizzles were okay but that's about it. The recipe for the filling needs to be looked over and they can really have something good here. The staff was super friendly and I'd return to get coffee or other pastries to see how that would go

In the right hands, it can be a thing of beauty. In the hands of Madame Cannoli, it's a disaster. I was very excited prior to this first visit to Madame Cannoli. It happened to coincide with their grand opening; there are very few places in this area where you can buy a good cannoli. Their concept of being able to customize your cannoli to your liking is uncommon and was certainly enticing. Unfortunately, these cannolis fell flat. Though the shells were nice and crispy, they were shorter in size than your standard cannoli. The biggest letdown here though was the filling. We ordered them with the classic filling. It was bland. It tasted of little to no ricotta at all (must have added whipped cream) and it wasn't at all sweetened. Someone in the bakery must have forgot to add sugar. In the days leading to their Grand opening, they advertised on their Facebook page that they'd be offering a 2 for 1 special on their cannolis. When we finally got to the counter after waiting in line for 20 minutes, we were told that the manager decided to change that and the offer would only apply to the purchase of one cannoli at at time and so our expectations and request to purchase a dozen for the price of 6 was not honored. In the end, this may have been a blessing because it spared us from being stuck with more of those tasteless, inedible cannolis. I really wanted to like this place. The St-Laurent/Cartierville area is in dire need of a decent cannoli shop. It's too bad that Madame Cannoli didn't live up to our expectations. Maybe it was a bad day. In any case, I'll continue to make the drive to Boulangerie Lasalle in Chomedey or to Patisserie Dolce Piu to get my cannolis.
