We wanted Mexican food that was authentic and affordable. We hit the jackpot with Mr Riko Loko. We had the birria burrito, the birria tacos and the fruitiloko. They were all SO DELICIOUS! The tacos were STACKED, the consomé was flavorful and the salsa was spicy -- highly recommend. The burrito was very tasty as well, but I personally enjoyed the tacos more. This place is good. 2nd time here and they delivered both times. The tacos are top notch. The flavor is popping. I had the Carne Asada Papa Loka. The meat is flavorful. The onions grilled to perfection, meaning they got a little sweet taste. The avocado sauce is creamy, and I assuming the spicy Hungarian wax peppers, bring some kick. I found this place because although I really enjoy Uncle Julio's churro bites, I was looking for another churro place in the suburbs. After some googling and yelp review searching, I came upon Mr Riko Loko. Not only does this place have churros, but they have ice cream, paletas (popsicles), fruit cups, aguas frescas, and savory foods (taco, burrito, bowl that you can build similar to chipotle; nachos, corn, and a few other things). We arrived around 16:30 on Friday June 3, 2022. When you enter, there is a cash register where you can pick up your takeout order. There is a fridge to your right with drinks like Jalisco sand Mexican coke. But, we were there to dine-in, so we went around to the side counter where it says line starts here. As I ordered, the man behind the counter started creating my bowl. Once I was done, my boyfriend placed his order. Instead of getting 3 tacos of 1 meat, he asked if he could get a sampling of the 3 meats- 1/taco and the man's boss obliged. We also ordered one churro, to try before deciding which desserts we wanted. Although we were dining in, our food was put in to go containers which at first I thought was peculiar. We sat down at the table, ate our savory food, then the single churro, and that's when it hit me that it was smart to put the food in to go containers because I didn't finish my bowl or my corn. So, I was able to take the rest with me, without dirtying some other plate. We then ordered our dessert. I was initially going to go for the crepe cone with strawberry cheesecake ice cream topped with strawberries and cheesecake pieces, but I was already pretty full so I decided to get two scoops of ice cream in a bowl. This was way more than I expected, and again, I was great full it was packaged in something with a lid to take home. We then paid with card and left the tip in cash- OF NOTE: they don't have a way for you to leave the tip on the card. Overall, this place is awesome and we will most certainly be back. It is clean. The staff is nice. The food is delicious and seems very fresh. The ice cream is some of the best I've ever had- it's velvety smooth almost like frozen custard consistency. The churro is my boyfriend's favorite. Reviews on eat food item: Tacos: (my boyfriend's meal and ratings) $7 Two corn tortillas per taco. He decided to make them like street tacos only adding onions, cilantro, and salsa. Steak with mild salsa - 3/10- no flavor Chicken with medium salsa - 6/10 - better flavor Chicken chorizo with spicy salsa - 9/10 - most flavorful. Next time, he plans to have all 3 be chicken chorizo with spicy salsa. I tasted the spicy salsa and it has a nice kick. It's orange, like I'd expect from habañero, but the boss said it was not habañero, but some other chilis. Regardless, it's good! Bowl (my meal and rating) $6.50 Chicken, cilantro lime rice, tomato, onion, cilantro, sour cream, shredded cheese, cotija, with a mix of mild and medium salsa 8/10 I really liked this bowl! It reminded me of chipotle's but with more Mexican flavor with the cotija and true salsa. I will definitely get this again. Churro (boyfriend's rating) $1.99 for a 6-7" 10/10- crunchy outer, soft inner. Doughy. He loves this churro more than any other he has had. I am a churro fiend and some of the best I've had were at a restaurant where I worked in LA- they had some carmel-like /dulce de leche filling and I haven't found anything like them elsewhere. That being said, Mr Riko Loko has very good churros. I believe they added cinnamon to the batter rather than mixed in with the sugar. Churro Sundae (boyfriend's review and rating) $7.99 10/10 The churro Sundae comes with 2 scoops of ice cream, 3 medium churros, Carmel, condensed milk, whipped cream, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. He chose horchata and cookie dough ice cream, both of which he thought were fantastic. He said there was a lot of cookie dough pieces and that the horchata is just different from anything he's had before. Both were very creamy and smooth. Two scoops of ice cream $5.99 10/10 I chose cheese and strawberry cheesecake ice cream. I've never heard of cheese ice cream before, so I had to try it. I guessed correctly that it has cream cheese in it, but it also has crumbles of a soft Mexican cheese. I'm not sure which- it might be queso fresco? Either way- its fricking delicious! It's so creamy! It's not too sweet. It's definitely my fav. I love cheesecake and cheese cake ice cream (or the raspberry cheesecake frozen custard from culver's) and this strawberry cheesecake ice cream was also yummy! Both are so smooth they have the texture of a frozen custard. Fantastic. Also, the 2 scoops is huge!!! They really fill the cup and push it down before putting the second scoop on there. What a cute ice cream shop. There was a variety of flavors, including creamy and sorbet ice creams and paletas. Although the menu had other diverse desserts, my group stuck with the ice creams. I sampled the Ande's mint flavor and it was super fun and delicious. However, I ended up with eating the cheese flavor (100% recommend) and the coffee. The atmosphere was clean and they had so many good bops playing over the speakers. Just came across this place today when I was craving for churros with ice cream. I am sooo happy I found this place. They have soooo many good things on their menu. Today I tried their churro sundae which comes with two scoops of your choice of ice cream, 3 churros, whip cream, cinnamon toast crunch on top. My sister highly recommended Mr. Riko's and I think my first experience may have been just an overall mistake. The location is nice, but I am not the biggest fan of tall tables with bar stools. As for the service, I was a bit disappointed with the woman taking our order. She was super polite, but made a few mistakes with my families meals and didn't choose to confirm what we meant. My sister wanted steak tacos and asked for shredded cheese, but when we got the order the tacos were drenched in nacho cheese. Went here on a whim after a brunch date and was immediately overwhelmed by all of the options and flavors, but in the best way possible. So many unique choices and menu items. The employee was more than accommodating with my indecisiveness and allowed me to sample multiple flavors.
