This past Sunday was shaping up like so many others, uneventful, pleasant, a nice Supper in the works, when a burst cold water pipe under the kitchen counter suddenly turned my world upside down. Water spraying all over the place and, more ominously, the floor was beginning to show the unmistakable signs of flooding, rising water level! After clearing away all the pots and pans, rolls of paper towels, miscellaneous dried goods and other junk, I finally and thankfully located a main shutoff valve. Now the work began. Try to find a plumber on a Sunday at 6:00pm.....The first one I called was on a camping trip for the week. The second might be able to get to me in a day or so... Luckily I knew of Mr. Rooter. Open 24hrs, 7 days a week! Dave returned my call in about 5 minutes and after I explained my problem, told me not to worry, he would come by within the next hour. Great relief! With my wife and son giving a hand, we soaked up dish towel after dish towel into a bucket and the sink and eventually managed to dry the hardwood and cupboards. When Dave arrived, as promised within an hour, he set to work immediately. The break occurred at a tee between three different types of pipe. Pex, PVC and one other type, the name of which escapes me. He had all the necessary connections for the first two types, but because the third type was a discontinued variety, he didn't carry the fittings on his truck. Anyway, in order to get the kitchen functional again, Dave put in a new elbow from the main feed to the kitchen tap, temporarily leaving the upstairs bathroom without any cold water until he was able to return the next day with the right parts. This is where we had a problem. The next day, Monday, I waited all day for Dave. In the end, I was told he would be by at 5:00. When that time came and went, I called and learned that he got called to an emergency sewer backup at another location and it would be Tuesday before anyone could come by and reconnect the upstairs bathroom. Very disappointing news, as you might imagine, with two teenagers living upstairs! Finally Tuesday came and shortly before noon, because Dave was out on another call, Steve came by to set things right. Now this is the part I am truly impressed with. After Steve finished the reconnections, made certain there were no leaks and went back to his truck ( I thought to prepare an invoice ) , he called Rick at the office and told him about how unhappy I was with the delay in getting the water hooked up. When Steve came back to the house he told me that because Mr.Rooter prides themselves on satisfying customers, Rick told Steve to waive all the fees connected with the job and go on to the next call! In all my 70 years, I have never been so pleasant surprised and grateful. I can honestly say that I will always consider Mr.Rooter my number one choice for any plumbing work. Absolutely terrible service. Basically scammed me while I'm pregnant and desperate. They came in, convinced me to pay for the more expensive hydro-jet service because "the snake wouldn't get all the clog" , and supposedly used the camera as per my invoice (of $650) to confirm the problem. The next day, my drains were backing up again so they came back, and discovered there's a crack or something in my sewer pipe but they weren't the right guys to diagnose it, so someone would come by Friday to do so. After waiting all day Friday and no one showing up- I got a call around 5pm saying they were busy but someone would Definitely come by on the weekend. Wasted the whole weekend waiting, nobody showed - no courtesy call - nothing. Called Monday, asking for a refund because they did NOT do the work I was billed for and was told Richard would get back to me. Still haven't heard, and now they are not answering my calls. Wrote to head office , who basically said they would pass it on to the manager of the location. I'm 9 months pregnant and the stress of this has had me in bed with contractions for 2 days. They took the last of my money from my emergency fund and resolved nothing- and wasted almost a week of my time I could have been using to prepare for my baby. I will be pursuing this further and making sure that everyone knows about this sham of a company. Absolutely disgraceful. read more

Our septic system backed and we found Mr. Rooter on line. First impressive thing was a real person answered the emergency number even though it was a holiday weekend. When the team, led by technician Mike W, arrived at our home I could not have been more impressed with their professional, reassuring and calm manner. The guys worked hard to find our septic tank and with minimal disruption to our landscaping. Mike explained all aspects of the job to me as things progressed and throughout the day was calm and reassuring as he explained details and showed me what the problems were that had led to our system backing up and failing. By days end they had got the job done restoring our septic system and drainage bed to full functioning. Mike did not leave until he had cleaned up the yard and repaired excavated soil and gravel. I genuinely have not been this impressed with a bunch of hard working professional knowledgeable guys in a very long time. Thank you Mike! And thank you guys. Just to follow up on my experience with Mr. Rooter. I went a step further by posting this review on the customer reviews section of the Mr. Rooter website. I was contacted within a couple of days by Mr. Richard Samways, who is area manager for, among other things, Mr. Rooter Nova Scotia. Mr Samways expressed a sincere interest in my situation and was extremely cordial in offering to reimburse the cost of having my septic pumped by way of sending a truck to my house and pumping my septic tank for free when I am ready to have it done next time. There is not much more I can say to that, other than, how much I appreciate such a commendable gesture on the part of Mr. Samways. Thank you Sir for responding and for your generous offer. read more

Always on time and get the job done. Very reasonably priced too! I know because I've been fleeced by trades people in the past and was afraid to try someone new when my plumber of 20 years closed shop. The first choice was the right one. I've had to use them four times in the past six months and am thanking god for my Advantage Membership because of course half of the plumbing issues (especially the ones that can't wait) seem to happen Friday at 7pm, for me. So, I paid the regular weekday price since I'm a member so I also recommend that. HUGE savings for that decision that wasn't tough to make (think it's like $100 for the membership). read more

Our sink was crazy clogged with coffee grinds y'all. Michael and Ryan, our rad plumbers, said that putting your coffee grinds down the sink leads to cemented coffee pipes. Joe, our landlord, would so not be cool with us having cemented pipes. Michael and Ryan plunged the bejebus out of our sink, but she was too clogged to budge so they had to come back with the mother scrubber of plumbing technology: The chongo scrubber, at least we think that's what it was called. The point is, they chonged the scrub out of our pipes, and even showed me the vortex of the drainage tornado when they were finished. Thanks for clearing our gnarly sink dudes ! read more

Excellent service, very prompt and professional. My water heater tank went. Steve was over within an hour to drain the tank. The following morning Kris and another plumber were over with a new tank. They picked up wood from the store. A wooden elevation was created in lieu of the subflooring, a pan was installed and drain pipe leading to the laundry room with a drain hole in the floor was installed and secured. Kris went over the proper maintainence with me explaining step by step how to flush out the tank on a yearly basis. I couldn't be happier with the service. read more

This past Monday we lost water pressure in our home. We have three little ones at home, so you can imagine 'water is a must'. Prompt and satisfactory service. Tyler, who installed the new kitchen faucet was personable, and made a return visit when I had a question about the stiffness in the sprayer hose. Turns out it just needed time to straighten out from the curled position if was in as packaged. And Tyler was good-natured and reassuring, despite having to make the second visit.
