My husband would die if I didn't give Mr. Scrib's five stars. This is hometown nostalgia for him and anytime we visit family it is a must. They have three locations for a reason and it is an if you know you know if you are from the Muskegon area. We always enjoy the tradition of a Mr. Scrib's order when we get to town. My kids love the fried foods (mushrooms and steak bites) and my husband of course loves the pizza. This location is also very convenient! read more

I ordered two pizzas at the Henry street Scribs in Norton Shores, I asked to speak to the manager about my order. The order that I placed was a 12" and a 16" the 16" was supposed be half deluxe and half pepperoni which I didn't receive. I spoke to the manager and she was very rude, because I complained about my order. I did not want any money back I just wanted to let her know that my order was not right . she also hung up the phone on me , I have been a loyAl customer for over 30 years, the new management has changed and it shows. Mr. Scrib's (on Laketon) is the very first pizza that I can remember eating... ever... IN MY LIFE (at the time of this posting, I am 57 yr old). Their pizza is, quite probably, the reason pizza is my favorite food. I must be honest, though, and say that Mr. Scrib's not my favorite pizza; however, it's safe to say that it is in my TOP 5 favorite pizzas... of any I've had... EVER! That's really saying something, too, considering I've eaten pizza from the East Coast to West Coast, from the North to the South... and many points in between (even a few in Canada). The reason for the 4 stars, rather than 5, is because they are inconsistent in the way that the pizzas are put together. They always use quality ingredients but, sometimes, you get a rather small amount of one topping or another; sometimes the pizza(s) will have big bubbles in the crust; sometimes, when you order your pizza half-n-half (such as, your favorite toppings on one side and your SO's favorite toppings on the other), they don't take care to not overlap them (a little bit is fine... we don't expect perfection... but a lot is not). These issues affect the way the pizza tastes. Thankfully, though, they don't occur often; I don't recall ever having a pizza made so poorly that we had to lodge a complaint. They do make more than pizza, such as subs, fried appetizers, shrimp, and more, however, I can never resist getting pizza when we order from there. I spent 106.00 on pizza and cauliflower,only to have my pizza burnt.I called the manager named Candy said we seem to have this problem because I get extra cheese and sausage and my question was why do you keep burning it. Hands down the best pizza in Muskegon. We order the pepperoni and sausage pizza every time. The fresh sausage makes all the difference. Great crust! Great sauce! In my opinion, it's the only pizza in Michigan that can compete with the pizza in Chicago (not that deep dish garbage, I mean real Chicago pizza). Only complaint is consistency. Sometimes it's better than other times. Also, don't order the cheese bread, or really anything other than the pizza and don't expect a clean place to sit or even average customer service. Most towns of any size have a restaurant that is popular with the locals that makes no sense to me. Mr. Scribbs is one of those places in Muskegon, MI. I was Muskegon working for a few days and I had driven past Mr. Scribbs several times. I like to try new (to me), independent, ma and pa, and "off the wall" restaurants, because that is how you find something new and wonderful. Or, how you are very disappointed and feel like you wasted your money on a BAD meal! Mr. Scribbs has apparently been here for decades. They don't even open until 4pm so I planned to give them a try for dinner. They advertise themselves as a sub and pizza shop, but the subs didn't appeal to me. I tried a half cheese and half pepperoni and mushroom pizza. As I waited, several customers came in and picked-up their food. Mr. Scribbs had a steady flow of customers, not crazy busy, but steady. My pizza was ready in about 20 minutes and I sat down to take a couple pictures, The grease was just POOLING-UP on the pizza. A little grease is O.K. and EXPECTED on a pizza, but this was looking bad. Mr. Scribbs' pizza has no taste. It's warm and chewy and greazy, kind of salty, but it doesn't really taste like anything. Certainly not like good pizza. I tried a piece of the pepperoni and mushroom, hoping for some taste and flavor- nope, just saltier and greasier (from the pepperoni). Pizza has to be REALLY BAD for me to THROW IT AWAY! I threw away about half of my Mr. Scribbs pizza! I asked the guy at the counter if they make their dough and crusts in house and he said they did. Bad pizza. I went to Subway and got a turkey sammich because I was still a little hungry and to counter-act the grease contamination I had just suffered from the Mr. Scribbs pizza. The next day, I was in another restaurant down the street from Mr. Scribbs and I was telling the owner about my experience. She told me that Mr. Scribbs pizza has the reputation of inducing labor for women who are past their due date. The grease, I guess. So here is my take on Scrib's. I think they are probably the best quality pizza I've had yet in Michigan. They aren't cheap but the ingredients are high quality and it comes through in every aspect of the pizza. I am a bit of a pizza snob and I go out of my way to find new pies to try. There are several pretty good spots in the area but Scrib's is the only place that I feel offers a pizza that is both incredibly good on all levels and also uniquely their own flavor. In other words, it's the only pizza place I've been to around here I could imagine winning a national pizza competition or something. Some will complain that their pizzas are too greasy. I personally find them to be greasy to a point of still being quite enjoyable in terms of flavor. Way better than say Jet's in that sense. I've yet to dab one of their pies. Probably not healthy but it tastes incredible. Also, they don't put a ton of sauce on their pizzas. Probably my only sincere complaint as they have a policy against giving out sides of their house pizza sauce. It's unfortunate because their sauce is truly one of my favorites I've ever had anywhere and it forces a person to add extra sauce to the order. This is always a nervous gamble at any pizza place. Luckily, I've figured out the best way to place an order for how I personally prefer my pizza. I just ask for a "little" extra sauce. This has resulted in my pizzas being just a little saucier and, in my opinion, at a perfect level of flavor. The staff is always very nice and accommodating as well. I grew up and lived in Muskegon for 26 years and one of the biggest heartbreaks was having to wait to get a Scribs pizza only once per year. Anyone who has an ounce of complaint needs to understand that this is pizza in a completely separate category all it's own. If you want a crunchy cracker thin crust, go to New York. If you want a deep dish drowning in way too many gallons of tomato sauce, Chicago is a short trip around the lake. Bye.... we won't miss you. Mr. Scribs pizza is a wonderful experience that I have yet to see anyone in the country even come close to, and I've had it in most states. It's a thin crunchy yet juicy crust with an amazing sauce, decadent cheese, fresh veggies, and a sausage that allows you to taste the handmade goodness like nowhere else. Adding bacon to a deluxe pours on yet another layer of heaven that you wish you could never stop eating. I love my family to death but the experience of one of these beauties makes the whole 13 hour trip home once a year seem worth it in it's self. I absolutely love this pizza!!! I could eat it every day. It might be a little bit more expensive than other pizza places in the area. I believe it is because of their ingredients. I have heard that they make their dough fresh daily. Then roll it out. Each pizza is made to order. So they don't have any just made laying around. They also have a large number of deep fried items to pick from. I love their beef steak fies and mushroom fries and have also enjoyed their broccoli cheddar bites. They also have oven baked subs. I've been ordering these since I was 15. I'm coming up on 50, so close to 35 years. I think they were under done then refried. They were in eatable but not good. We were from out of town and ordered two late night pizzas to finish the night off as well as a cheesy bread. They delivered a cheesy bread and one pizza, after an hour delay. We had to call and ask for the second pizza, that we both paid for and we're not given. The fact that we had to call again to get what we paid for is reprehensible. By the time the second delivery came, it wasn't useful at all. Only choose this place if you have no other choice. As a customer who has been going here for almost 20 years, plus an additional 20 from immediate family, we will never go back. Got our "standard" order as always except this time half the pizza was stuck to the cardboard from under cooking. Called to get remade and asked for our side of cauliflower to also be remade. Pizza, yes. Cauliflower, no not happening. Was told "most people" will eat what they have while the rest of the order that was sub par was remade. Because I have time to sit and actually enjoy anything even though I have to jump back in the car and drive all the way back to the restaurant to get what I should have had the first time. Also told because we got "extra" sauce, that was the reason why it was stuck and ripping the bottom of the crust off the pizza. Called to let them know mistake young man on phone said "what about it" asked for manager she didn't seem to care either.. did finally offer to replace with the right order so that means stop our plans and go return this one and pickup right order... blamed wrong order on me. In all years this is our first and only complaint. Treated very disrespectful. Will not happen again.
