Stayed in the area for a week, and our hostess recommended Fricano's as being the best and a favorite. I love trying new places, and my husband loves pizza, so thought this was a good idea. Nope, it wasn't! First, perhaps because they are a storied institution, they expect patrons to already be familiar with the order of operations. The menu is on the placemat everyone! When the waitress arrived, she expected us to already know what we wanted, and my husband did not notice the "menus" and asked for one. Anyway, was it good? No. Flavorful? Also no. Needed more sauce, and I think they used canned mushrooms...yuck. Plus, the crust edges were burnt, not appetizing. The positive about Fricanos is it didn't make us feel like hot garbage later or the next day, like many chain pizza places can. If Grand Haven thinks this is good pizza, then I feel bad for the residents. :( read more

The pizza looks good from pictures but has a horrible rancid taste to it and limited topic choices.

First time at the Grand Haven location. They only serve pizza here, but it is the classic, gooey, greasy thin crust pizza that Fricanos is famous for. They were busy but our server was quick and got our food out to us in a jiffy. The restaurant is basically an old house, it's been open since the 1940's. It gives it a homey and quaint feel. Called for a take out order and the host was super rude and dismissive. My mom had a birthday coupon from Fricano's in Manistee but the host said she had never heard of birthday coupons and she had no idea what I was talking about. We were just at Fricano's in Manistee and the service and food was incredible. The Grand Haven location is lacking toppings, service and tact. There are no menus available because "everyone already knows the menu by heart." Maybe because they only offer five toppings, but for what you get... the price is outrageous. Manistee offered several specialty pizzas including Greek, Bacon Chicken Ranch, and Pulled Pork. The menu at Manistee was incredible and the service was top notch. It was extremely disappointing to have such a different experience in Grand Haven. No specialty pizzas, no menus available and extremely limited toppings. With the limited menu and the price of the pizza at the Grand Haven location, you are better off going to Dominos. If this was my first time at a Fricano's, there is no chance I would come back. read more

We called in an order for 3 pizzas on a Friday night at 6:40 and were told the wait would be 45 minutes. We showed up 45 minutes later to be told that our order was lost. One of the top 3 pizzas in grand haven. I'd say it's tied for second with clover bar, both just behind Mr. Scribs. Their pizzas have been amazingly consistent for the last 35 years I've been eating them. Only one complaint. I wish they would expand their menu. This place has been around since 1949 and clearly has a loyal following. I believe they've won some "Best Of" awards around the state of Michigan, so something's gotta be up. They sell nothing but pizza...not sides, not salad, not garlic knots...just 13" pies. And there are only a handful of toppings to choose from. But the pizzas are pretty decent! We ordered their pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza for take-out. It was wafer thin and had a slightly sweet sauce and plenty of gooey cheese. One pie is easily shareable between two people. Wow! What a grave dissatisfaction. My wife and I discovered 5 years ago what we thought was a diamond in the rough until we returned to this simple family owned pizzeria. We have watched this place go down hill every year. Not in customer service, but in the quality of food. We know what you're thinking. How can anyone go wrong with pizza. Well, it's all wrong. The cheese is over cooked and mimicking a piece of burnt card board. The sauce is drenched a cheap oregano. And the bread is some how under cooked. Over cooked top and under cooked bottom.
