We hired Mr. T's to repair our gas fireplace. Two techs came out and to diagnose the issue, replaced a part, and then realized that their initial diagnosis was wrong. They admitted that they did not have enough experience to diagnose the issue, and needed to have their boss come out to take a look and would charge us, not only for their time and not being able to diagnose the problem, but an additional cost to have the boss come out for a look and diagnosis. We chose to end things there and go with another company. However, even after speaking with the boss and him admitted no services were provided by not being able to even diagnose the problem, we were still charged over $250 for nothing. We are at square one and are going with another company who has guaranteed a diagnosis or there will be no charge. The techs who came out were extremely nice and hard working. I do not fault them for what has happened. I 100% fault the owner and the terrible business practices they have. If someone more experienced had to come after the first techs, but did not charge an additional fee for their own inexperience, I would have gladly paid. Save yourself a lot of time & money - I would highly suggest going elsewhere. PLEASE read other one star reviews because they are EXACTLY what we experienced. read more

I really appreciate that this company services fireplaces even if they did not perform the initial installation - I called several companies in the Madison area who refused to service a fireplace if they did not install it. (I just purchased my home so I have no idea who installed it 15 years ago....) Steve and his associate kept me informed of their arrival time, were respectful of my house and left it clean. They were thorough yet quick in cleaning and inspecting my fireplace. Steve even recommenced other fixes that will require an electrician but will provide extra safety. We recently had our blower fan on our fireplace start to make some really odd noises, like dieing dolphin type noises. After reviewing YouTube I determined this was a task that I needed an expert for. Our type of gas fireplace had limited access to the blower, which prevent a simple blower swap. As it goes I was driving around town, and pulled up next to me was a Mr. T's service Truck, I took that as a sign and gave them a call. Steve was quick to respond with a quote, after I provided him with a model number, and was at our house the next day, ON TIME. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Steve answered all my questions regarding the operation of the fireplace and his estimate was right in line with the bill for the services. Paid $90 for two young ladies to come out and look at my gas fireplace. They did not know how to fix it or what exactly was wrong with it. Received a text message from the owner a couple days later saying he would order parts and come back to fix the fireplace but I would be charged another service fee of $189. I complained but eventually scheduled the appointment. I did this because I need to get this fixed, the house is going up for sale. They told me I need to be onsite so I could pay after the work was completed. I have to work and could not be at the house. I gave them the garage code and told them to stop out anytime, the house is empty. They told me that if I wasn't there and they took a credit card over the phone I would be charged an additional 4.5%. Seriously? I scheduled an appointment with another company that gladly took my credit card info and did not upcharge me the 4.5%. read more

I had to wait two months for an appointment with this service. The lady on the phone was super-nice. The people who came were earnest and polite. I have a gas log set and I wanted to know if it was configured correctly and if it was safe. It is an older Heat-n-Glo log set. They took a look at it, cleaned the glass doors, and declared it dangerous because the valve was leaking. Then, without asking, they cut the wires to the switch which could have been simply disconnected without damage and removed to prevent use. They said this was to prevent it being used until fixed. This was damage to my property without permission. They said that I needed a new thermopile, and a new valve, and they arranged the logs in a new way which they said was how they are supposed to look. For this service I paid $178.00. They also informed me that for them to come back and replace the valve, the thermopile and the switch (that they broke) would cost me an additional $636. After they left I contacted Heat-n-Glo and procured a picture of the correct log arrangement which was different from Mr. T's configuration. Then I went online and purchased a replacement valve for $61 (same brand and type as original) and a new thermopile for $14. I found some heat-rated wire connectors at my local hardware store to repair the snipped wires for $1.00. Once informed, I am reasonably handy, and everything was simple to install, but had I hired a professional for peace-of-mind it would still have only taken them 20 minutes so the total cost should not have surpassed $250 at the most. While I cannot vouch for the quality of their work because they didn't do any, I guess their assessment of the log set was accurate. However they did not ask me before destroying my property and their quote was tantamount to highway robbery. For these reasons I will not be inviting them back. read more

BEWARE: Do your research before hiring this company. We contacted Mr. T's for an estimate and quoted a little over $415. When the owner, Steve, showed up he was unprofessional and tried billing us for almost $750. We stated multiple times that we were concerned about the work and experiencing issues we had not previously experienced. Right away he explained that he "wish(ed) to decline on any further work". After several attempts to remedy the issue he continued to state things like, "we are choosing to decline any further work with you" and "very concerned about continuing any type of business with you". Taking the recommendation of another fireplace company and a Fire Protection Coordinator, contacted our utility provider that came out and detected a gas leak at the pilot that Mr. T installed stating, it was declared and immediate hazard. Even after bringing this to Mr. T, he threatened court action rather than trying to fix his work. He has no regard for our safety or our concerns. He also questioned weather our utility company was NFI certified and I looked, Mr. T himself is not NFI certified either. read more

Called after 4 and office person still could not reach him.. Finally reached him... was dealing with a gas leak. I get that that is a serious situation, but this is 2017,,he and his worker could have stepped away and called to explain... and also could have found another convenient time to help me since I had a scheduled appt and had had to cancel evening plans that I had to pay for, waiting for him. He accused me of being insensitive to the gas leak danger, however, I had no idea that was why he wasnt here, nor did his office... Tried to make me the bad guy... a business owner in this day has a minute somewhere to turn on a cell phone to me , the customer , or his office who could call me , and explain not only would he be late, but would not show up at all..not apologize and not try to reschedule to accommodate me... No customer service savvy..no more will I be his customer. read more
