It takes 5 phone calls to get anything done because all I get is the stupid AI rep who can't solve any problems. I've heard they've been bought out by a national company in the past year, and changed a lot over to AI. I don't think they are locally owned anymore. Apparently this is known by other plumbers, but Cardinal charges a lot more than common rates. I was quoted $9,000 for a new off-brand air conditioner! And the sales person was expecting I would sign the contract on the spot - I didn't. I was then quoted $4,500 for a new water heater. A local plumber charged me $2,600 for the exact same water heater. Cardinal was charging 69% more. Be sure to shop around before signing anything. read more

We've used Cardinal Heating & Cooling for years, but this past year communication has been frustratingly poor. Scheduling routine maintenance was a challenge -- despite letting them know we'd be out of town, they booked an appointment during that time, didn't notify us, and then claimed we'd missed it. The real trouble came with a recent heat pump repair. After approving an ordered part, we waited over a week with no update, only to find out the part hadn't even been ordered. When the technician finally came, he punctured a main component. Mistakes happen, but waiting six weeks for a replacement left us without heat or AC through October and November. When we called mid-November, we learned the part had been in -- but no one had called us. On the day of the rescheduled repair, Cardinal said the part couldn't be found, then later reversed course and sent the same technician who had caused the damage (despite their assuring us they would send someone with more experience). The receptionist was kind, but the breakdown between technicians, whoever orders & receives parts, and customers was constant. After years as loyal clients, we no longer feel valued -- and we probably will be taking our business elsewhere. Note: We shared our concerns with management who were apologetic and said they would follow up on the communication problem areas. read more

They ripped off my girlfriend's father by charging him over $4000 for a water heater, and then claimed that he needed a part replaced on his furnace. I joined the Cardinal club a couple of years ago. My HVAC system was about 12 years old. The first year, I was told the inducer motor needed replacing. It cost me @$800. The second year, it needed a capacitor motor, which was also @800. During the check this fall I was told there was a lot of water leaking in the furnace and the system really should be replaced. The quote they gave me for an Armstrong system was almost $14,000. If I just wanted to try to patch it up, it would be about $3,000, which required a new inducer motor! The technician spent about 30 minutes servicing the furnace and I found out later, he never cleaned inside it and didn't replace any filters. I decided to have another company come and take a look at it. That technician spent 2 hours thoroughly going through the furnace sand found one hose inside that was leaking and was fixed with a couple of clamps. Everything else was fine! Nothing wrong with the inducer motor or the other things that Cardinal said would need replacing! I asked for an estimate to replace the system just in case and the quote they gave me was under $8,000. I feel like the representatives from Cardinal targeted me because I'm a widowed senior citizen. Well, I may be old, but I'm not stupid! My suggestion is to be very wary of anything Cardinal tells you is needed. read more

We had wonderful HVAC service both emergent and non emergent, but getting the free electrical inspection that they offer has been a joke. Twice they've cancelled the appointment without notification. The first time blaming it on a supposed phone call from my husband cancelling it which was not true, and the second time because there were several call ins from the electricians saying they wouldn't be in that day. The office gal later confirmed it wasn't a call from my husband and that the electricians cancelled the appointment. It seems the free service electrical inspection included in our one year service contract is merely at Cardinals convenience, lest inconveniencing me, the homeowner, who has faithfully stayed home awaiting their arrival. We recently had a toilet that was running, and my husband and I are not good at fixing things ourselves. So we called Cardinal plumbing, and they came out fairly quickly. The gentleman that came out was very nice and professional, and finish the job in about an hour. However, we were charged almost $600 for this . We did not have toilet replaced, just mechanisms inside the toilet. Personally, I feel this is a total rip off. I'm going to try to find a handyman for next time. read more

Update 04/19/24---- Talked to the Operations Manager at Cardinal and discussed the issue- received the $$ back for duct cleaning- great follow-up from Cardinal and making it whole!!! Discussed that internally this needs to be approached. ==== After the duct cleaning I was advised by Zach/Brad from Cardinal last week Thursday that a repair of $ 2656.00 was needed or the entire system replaced, since it would just run for another short time. There was an on-line quote I was shown by the duct Cleaning group. They based their quote on pictures send to Cardinal!!!! The Service Tech came out the next day and quoted me a system at $ 6.600.00 and $ 9,900.00 and was "pushed" to get by following Monday the 15th of April 2024, I had a hard time to get him out of the house with this hard sale !! I had a local company come in and check the Lennox system over yesterday and was told that they originally installed the system and nothing was wrong with the system. No components to repair ( $ 2,600.00) or a replacement, I am going to the "Better Business Bureau" and my lawyer right now to see that Cardinal is curbed on this "unlawful" practice to deem my system as defective to repair for $ 2,600.00 or even push a new system on me, since Monday I had numerous follow-ups on phone, text and e-mail to get the new system installed- I call this harassment. Cardinal has been my go to service provider for a couple of years now. Today I got a routine tune up. I still practice Covid safety in my home and I have it written on my service ticket that techs must be masked. I don't mind providing the mask, and sometimes I get push back. All the techs at Cardinal have been wonderful and respectful about masking up in my home. Today Nathan showed up at my door already wearing a mask. Cardinal has been the BEST company I've experienced so far at my house. I've also used Action--they were terrible in comparison. 1st call to Cardinal was in a panic with the sudden loss of AC in a 90 degree day. 5 animals in the home. The person with whom I spoke understood how dangerous of a situation this was and a service person was scheduled that day. 2nd call was for electrical work--not urgent but they happened to be able to squeeze me in on the same day which was probably rare but amazing! Best parts of this experience: 1. Friendly and empathic front team who got me scheduled ASAP. 2. Text prior to the service person's arrival with their pic and some info to help personalize this 'stranger' 3. The service people themselves--extremely competent, focused, and very personable. It took the technician 20 minutes to replace the wire and 20 minutes to discuss the job and the fee. The technician advised 3 times that he does not make the prices. For less than one hour's work we were charged $422.00 which included the following: $202.00 attic access fee? $149.00 repair fee. $49.00 trip charge fee $22.00 in taxes We are skeptical of the excess attic fee and will be inquiring with the department of consumer affairs, attorney general, and writing further reviews of such practices. Not to mention insulation is still laying on the floor after the technician left. No clean up! From Craig at Cardinal: I apologize for the poor experience you had with our service yesterday. We are firm believers of upfront pricing and give our customers pricing before we start the work and have it approved so we are sorry if this was not the procedure of the technician. We normally have an attic access charge since it does take more time to diagnose and repair in someone's attic vs in a wide open basement. We also apologize for our tech leaving a mess in your garage area. That is also not a normal procedure of Cardinal's services. Yeah, AC went out in the current heatwave. We went out for dinner & came home to 82° inside. We checked with you good Yelpers and found great reviews for Cardinal & gave them a call around 8:00 pm. We got their after hours call service, she asked if we needed a call back that night which we declined, asked her for a call back this morning. They called about 7:50 am & were here & done by 1:00 pm!! Javier was very professional in his analysis & explanation of the needed repair. He had it done in hardly any time. Cardinal inspected our furnace and air conditioning unit. It was determined that we needed both replaced since they were close to 25 years old. Greg from Cardinal came to our home and explained in detail the two brands and different models available. He spent a good deal of time with us explaining the advantages of each brand and model and helped us select the ones that were appropriate for our situation. Two days later Cardinal called to give us a time to select for instillation. The Cardinal people were efficient and the instillation perfect. The cleanup was immaculate. Great emergency service. We had our 25 year old furnace go out during the -20 degree weather this year. I called at 4 AM, they had a tech out to evaluate it by 7 AM, he recommended we replace (I agreed) and they had a crew out by noon to install a new one, finishing everything by about 4 PM. Replacing a furnace sucks, there's no way around that. They made it go as smoothly as could be expected and their super prompt service was fantastic. If you're looking for great service and people you can trust to handle your HVAC needs, I'd look no further than Cardinal Heating & Air Conditioning. My wife and I purchased a 25 year old home and we called up Cardinal to come check out the furnace. The tech who showed up was awesome. He let us know that the furnace was the original furnace, which even he was a bit surprised about (since they typically only last about 15-20 yrs), but he said it was still functioning just fine despite its age and didn't try to sell us on anything at all. We ended up liking our tech so much that we signed up for Cardinal's annual preventative maintenance plan for heating & cooling; which I'd highly recommend. Anyway, over several years our furnace kept passing inspections (in which at no time did anyone at Cardinal pressure us to upgrade), and the service maintenance checks we had with them were all great experiences. Finally this past spring we had a tech out to check the A/C unit as part of our annual maintenance plan, and while he was running a diagnostic on the A/C he went the extra mile and used his down time to check our furnace; which thankfully he did, because he spotted a crack in the heat exchange (which I also verified was there). Now if you're unfamiliar with furnaces, a crack in the heat exchange is a serious issue; the type of one where you run the risk of carbon monoxide leaking into your house. The tech was very apologetic for having to inform us of the bad news that by law he had to flag our furnace as unsafe to operate. However, I just profusely thanked him and said we knew the furnace was well beyond it's expected life, and that this was precisely why we had the maintenance plan in the first place. Anyway he went on to finish the air conditioning check that morning, but before doing so he called the office to have someone reach out to us about our options for a new furnace. As expected they got back to us pretty quickly (within a half hour). Now I should also mention that our A/C unit was pretty old (13 yrs), and they typically only last 12-15 yrs. So it wasn't too surprising when he said it would be an extra $200 to top off the coolant and replace a part. He also estimated that even still, the unit would only have a year or two left before ultimately needing replacement. However instead of pushing the repairs through or trying to sell us a new A/C unit, he told us to hold on for a minute, and he called up the office to see if they were still running a promotion that was ending soon where if you buy a furnace (which we were already going to do through them) that you get an A/C unit free. It turns out that they still were (and had it been a few days later we would have been totally SOL), but in doing so he got them to revise our quote on the new furnace to include the new A/C unit. As a result we ended up saving thousands through this deal. And for those of you skeptics out there, no this wasn't some manufactured promotion that was put together to make the sale happen. We were already going to get the furnace from them, our tech simply was looking out for us and in doing so he saved us a lot of money. Lastly I also want to mention that at the tail end of the A/C check-up I had to head to work, but my wife was home, and so we talked on phone the remainder of the morning sorting out all of the above. Now where things went from great to outstanding is when she called to inform me that Cardinal called to schedule the installation and the scheduler was like: "are you available this afternoon?" My wife was shocked, and confirmed that she was in fact implying that the furnace would be installed that day. She said: "yeah, it looks like it might get a little chilly tonight, so I thought if it worked out we'd try to get that installed today for you". So low and behold when I came home from work, they had removed the old furnace and A/C, installed the new units, and to top it off hooked us up with a new smart thermostat that worked with our 4 wire system (unlike our Nest) and had taken the time to walk my wife through all the features on how to use it. So there you have it. If you've braved through my very lengthy positive customer experience story, you'll see why I'll be a Cardinal Heating & Air Conditioning customer for life. And for those of you who prefer the cliff notes... let me just say that Cardinal does excellent work, has excellent people, their work is timely, they are not pushy about trying to sell you anything, and that ultimately the cost of the new furnace and A/C was far less than the money we had budgeted for it. Thanks to them I sleep better knowing that my wife and kids are safe because the crack in my heat exchange was caught when it was. With the Cardinal, I feel like they truly have your best interest in mind, and I honestly can't say enough good things about our past several years of being customers of theirs .
