Do not order uber eats from this restaurant. It was the worst and most over priced Thai food I have ever eaten. Both the green curry chicken and pad kra pao were mainly undercooked potatoes, tough large pieces of cabbage, overcooked old fried tofu and very old dead beans. As far as i know massaman curry is the only dish that has potato in it. How can they justify charging $39 for a container full of undercooked potatoes, old tofu, sauce and a few bits of chicken. Did the restaurant think they could get away cooking such food as it was an uber eats delivery.??? So people do not order uber eats from this restaurant!!!! read more

Why have I not been here before? For some reason I have walked past this place many times. I think that it might be a signage issue. But this place is really lovely. If you are looking for a classy cocktail bar in a beautiful old building with lovely décor, this place has the goods. The interior decoration is unusual, but cool. Kind of a upmarket eclectic feel. Large arm chairs and vintage furniture, while having a modern touch and a weird seated area with a wall of stings. Kind of hard to explain. Nonetheless, it is also about the drinks. Great selection of spirits and cocktails. Extensive menu, you will struggle to choose. The cocktails are well priced and do use good quality spirits in the mixes. The bar staff are attentive and there is complete waiter service here. So, find a seat and they will look after you. The cocktails are really lovely, I had a Pink Grapefruit and Tequila cocktail. Very fresh and tasty. The rim of the glass was rolled in sugar which cut through the citrus. Lovely bar and I will return on a regular basis! read more

I feel very much at home here. The staff is so welcoming and friendly that initial impression feels like visiting someone's home. I love the variety of areas to sit in. Unusual decor and fabulous architectural features. Tonight I sat on the balcony for the first time. A point to note is that some people smoke out there. Easy to forget these days with so many non-smoking areas. It was a bit smoky so Eddie, my favourite staff member, put the plastic blinds up to get some breeze through, which worked a treat. The selection of gins is amazing, and the staff is so knowledgable. Ask Eddie anything! I'm impressed by the level of knowledge and the passion with which it is imparted. I first visited The Loft a week or two after they had done their 'soft launch'. We finished our dinner and then headed up to have a cocktail or two. We were greeted by a 'door man' who said it would be a 10 min wait this then turned in to 15- 20 minute wait. When we finally were told we could go in we made our way up the lavish stair case and saw a stunning set up! (Mind you there were only a handful of people inside - so not sure what the wait was about! ) A gorgeous bar and seating area that contains beautiful black chairs that resemble something Alice in Wonderland would be sitting on. The manager and staff are all very helpful and happy to make any recommendations or explain the menu to you. The Barman is also from Vue De Monde is Melbourne.. so that says enough in itself. The great thing is this place is not only a bar but you can order some light meals including cheese platters and dessert! We had the chocolate mousse and trifle which were both lovely accompanied by our cocktails. A nice place to go if you would like a drink but without the noise or without being pushed in to a corner. I have been a Friday night regular here since shortly after it opened. I took a hiatus over summer (I don't like sharing the sunshine filled outdoor balcony with smokers!) but am back on board for winter. It's a large open space with seating options for groups or more intimate spaces for date nights. (And a pretty kick-ass tassel chandelier come booth feature) The staff are really friendly and Eddie (The Manager) always seems pleased to see their repeat customers. The wine list is great although a little pricey, entry level wines by the glass about $10-$12. Great selection of spirits and cocktails although you do pay for the quality. Attentive table service which is a really nice change in pace compared to some other "Friday night knock off" venues. Tall ceilings so it can be a little noisy when full but it adds to the atmosphere. Fun and interesting decor! read more

Ahhh what can one say about another fusion-Asian joint with an almost-trendy vibe? Not much. We had the soft shell crab, Pad Thai, Peking Duck rolls and other not very memorable dishes. Very much catered to the Western palate, of course - the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty and nondescript. I was informed the chef is from Johor Bahru ... interesting given Malaysia has fabulous food particularly "street food" which is oh-so-trendy now. Thank goodness for the Entertainment Booklet. Rating 3 star because they recognised that I am formerly South-East Asian and gave a serve of sambal on the side. It's one of those places: you won't hate it, you won't love it and you'll go because everyone is tired of Madam Hanoi. I find it ridiculous that you are prancing around Gouger street instead of sipping a cold beverage in the fantastic balcony that Loft has to offer. Strategically placed after climbing a broad staircase, you will fall victim to a most wonderful sommelier / bartender / cruise director that will know exactly what you like and need after a few questions and tastings. Great wine selection, even better liquor cabinet, nice small dishes (yes, including the oysters). Every time I plan on going there I get giddy just thinking about its awesome space. Conveniently located (or not for parking?) on Gouger St, the Loft Wine Bar is the place to be for a chill drink or two (...or three or four?). Upon arrival, one heads upstairs along a spacious stairway the leads into a stunning bar and seating area. High ceilings, modern decor and plush furniture lends a chic and classy feel to the overall atmosphere. Additionally, it boasts one of the roomier balcony area, suitable for those who smoke or prefer fresh air. While the decor is great, what attracted me to this place is the lack of overly rowdy crowds. It seems to me that most of the clientele is from the working class/people with a more conscious sense of decorum - in other words, people walking straight and no puke in the restroom. Additionally, music was not overly loud (and I totally approve of their music choices btw), allowing a great atmosphere for catch up conversations. Or gossip. Great place for a more sedate and relaxed night out. The wine selection isn't amazing, but I did eventually find something I liked. If wine isn't your thing, The Loft Wine Bar also serves some pretty good cocktails - I've tried the classic Gin&Ton and some vodka mixes. Loved it. Staff was friendly, attentive and helpful; and service was efficient and quick. Would definitely be back. ps. 4 stars because as a wine bar, really, we need more variety and choices on that wine list. :/ read more

I could not fault the food, beverages, or service at Loft yesterday. We had the 4 course degustation menu for 2, myself with matching cocktails, and my husband with matching wines. An entree of oysters was followed by chicken in broth, then a main of lamb with root vegetables, and a citrus panna cotta for dessert. If I were being hyper critical I may say I have had slightly creamier panna cottas elsewhere, but that would only be if I were feeling super fussy. All in all the food offerings were almost perfect. Drinks were complex, perfectly matched, and kept me anticipating the next one, and the service was excellent. We sat on the balcony on a lovely sunny afternoon as the interior is a bit drab - lots of painted black walls and rather "nightclubish." I imagine it may look more glam at night when lit up. Pricing is at the high end of average, but we were on a Groupon deal which represented good bang for buck. An all round winner! read more

We went there for drinks on a Friday night, and were immediately impressed with the decor; trendy and sophisticated. They seated our group of six promptly, even without a reservation. A fair wine list, abbreviated but nice selection of beers and a couple of cocktails too. The dips platter and shoestring fries were average, but the soft shell crab looked good on other tables. I never knew this place was on Gouger st, as the sign is tiny and well hidden. Inside is a refurbished old building with a balcony that over looks the street. It seems to be pretty popular too, with a line up after 9. I love their interesting decor of bulbish shaped lights, couches, wooden kitchen tables with stools, reindeer heads (not real ones), a gas wall fire, and some strange net curtain area in the middle, which I think you have to reserve. Not to mention their bazaar waitresses that seem to have a dress code of short black dresses and died pink or purple hair. Unless they are all twins. The drinks I thought, were pretty good, as they were properly made with little fruit and toothpicks, even for a vodka and cranberry, which was only $8, and tasted good. A good place to go on a Saturday night if you want to help digest that chinese food. read more

Yes the space is great - wonderfully high ceiling and great outside area. But it's really expensive for what you get. A couple of nice dishes - the Vietnamese salad is good but the fried rice is awfully boring and bland. Didn't think much of the pad Thai either. read more

I'm disabled I made a booking followed up with an e-mail ensuring I could get in with my wheelchair I was told there was an elevator just ring when you get to the front someone will come down to let you in, I'm stunned as I arrive to find no elevator , but an automatic chair I need to get on with no way to get my chair up the steps the very helpful staff carried my chair up the flight of stairs It was a very anxious trip up the rickety chair, which somehow I managed to get on and off even though the staff didn't know how to fully use the chair 30 minutes later we ordered I ordered the green curry usually my go to dish, can't miss but I was served a bowl of very watery curry so hot I could barely eat it on leaving the manager had nothing to say about the ordeal I'd been through telling him I may need to call the fire department to get me out. The atmosphere and decor was great, however never again for me. Unsafe made me feel like I was a second class citizen with no attempt to ease the situation my safely was of no concern. No apology , but we will ring the fire department if you need it! read more

We sat in a booth and drank cocktails and wine all night... Got a plate of hot chips with the best aoli I have ever tasted. Their version of the espresso martini was delish! Black Cat White Cat, you've grown up. I spent many many nights at this venue being a drunken, disorderly early-20s dope, so coming back nearly 8 years later is a real eye opener. The memory remains but it's definitely a good walk forward. The decor is stunning. Really, I was utterly shocked when I walked in, in a good way. The staff immediately set upon me asking if I needed a table (Which got a little scary when one was leading me to a table and another pounced, asking if I needed one.) Perhaps they need one greeter and the others to be doing table service? A running "Mad hatters tea party" theme is through the place, with teapots and high back Mad Hatter chairs. A lovely looking gas fireplace and a little curtained off area finish the place off. I can definitely see myself sitting on that balcony in summer. The music wasn't too loud, which meant the conversation levels didn't need to be shouted. I did notice a few likely lads on the make by the bar but when they realised most people there were grown ups, not 18yos they quickly left for HQ. One thing got me, the wine selection actually wasn't amazing, hence the 4 stars. Perhaps they haven't yet hit their strides there, but I wasn't overly fussed by it.
