It shares space with the JTB Global Assistance service desk that helps orient the thousands of Japanese tourists that arrive in Vancouver on JTB package tours. So skip the mega sized mega overpriced boxes of maple Pocky set up to be sold to Japanese tourists that find it convenient to purchase from Japanese speaking staff instead of walking about 5 minutes down the block and purchasing at local prices. But it IS a great spot to pick up JR Rail passes. The passes are similar to Eurail Passes, but much less complex. Basically you just decide the number of days, and if you want regular or Green car (first class). They are a fabulous deal, and are only available to people who don't live in Japan. I got a pass which cost less than a simple roundtrip on the Shinkansen, and it allows travel on any JR train nationwide. Fabulous! It is by far one of the smallest places you'll find with almost no way to recognize it as it does not stick out from it's surrounding stores at all! They barely have any advertising or signage outside and they definitely don't have any colorful displays of anything that will draw your attention to them, but that being said, it is everything on the inside that counts; from a travel agency stand point, that is referring to their staff. Our family has been planning a vacation to Japan in Asia and a friend in Richmond recommended someone by the name of Elsa to us that works at EDA. She is a wonderful person with a definite heart that is willing to work out anything and everything for your traveling needs. She helped us organize all our travel plans from flight, taxi, tours, and hotels without a single bit of pressure. She even continued to help us shop for deals AFTER hotels have already been booked. So even after reserving hotels, she would send us information for a cheaper and better hotels around the same area, then proceed to help us do all the paper work. Our trip isn't due till mid-May, but judging from the attention to detail, friendly staff, and no pressure attitude, this trip is already looking pretty great! It is a pretty central location, as if you are driving there is a paid parking lot, and if you are taking transit it is not that far to walk here. OK, that being all said to getting here, then the next question, yes you can book online for an appointment, that is also the best option is to book online, but if you like to roll the dice, and many of you do, well then the walk in option is here and I can say I am two-for-two for having an awesome experience, including the wait time. On my most recent visit, the line-up was pretty deep, but the people know exactly how to move the line-up. I honestly thought this was going to be a +2 hour process, and it wasn't. Right at the start when you come up to the third floor you will see a security guard who also guides you to the correct line-up, as you could be coming just to pick up your passport from here, or other odd inquiries. The main line-up is for the pre-screening, where the person who is working goes through your application and to make sure you have everything you need to get to the next step (signatures, photos, supporting documents) and then provides you with a slip and tells you to wait to watch your number to appear and go to the appropriate window. Once you are through this, the last part is easy, it really is just collecting payment. The biggest thing is, make sure you have the application filled out, and also the checklist of everything you need with the application, cause if not, you are slowing the whole process for you, and the people waiting behind you, as you will see the eyes roll.... especially when you are one of those people that comes well prepared. All-in-all my visit has been great, and the people here are good too.

I swore it was time to take the Nexus plunge!). I can't yet attest to the benefits of the program, as we haven't yet received our cards (we were told it takes about 4 weeks before they're mailed to us), but I CAN attest to the efficiency and organization of this Nexus center, as well as the whole application process to date. Initially I went online to apply for this program. The directions were straightforward. I was prompted to choose an interview site and date; there's a Vancouver location near me on Main Street that I had hoped to go to but the first appointment's availability there was over a month longer than the first appointments available here at the Vancouver airport (as is, I had to wait about 3 weeks to get this weekend appointment at the airport, as my kid goes to school during the weekdays). So I booked us for the airport site. I had heard that it was tricky to find the actual office at the airport, so I gave ourselves extra time. Turns out, that was unnecessary. It was simple to find: it's literally right behind the Starbucks on the third floor at the US departure area. There's a big "NEXUS" sign on the wall. You can't miss it. We checked in at the counter, and all our documents were reviewed. (Note: bring EVERYTHING. I brought way more than needed but, hey, better safe than sorry). They scanned our eyeballs (I felt like James Bond!). Then we had brief interviews, first with a Canadian officer, then with an American officer. The US officer took our fingerprints on a digital pad (cool!), and both just reviewed our documents and basic facts. Both were super nice. Then we were told the cards would be mailed to us. The whole process went smoothly and wasn't intimidating in the least. A big shout-out goes out to everyone working at this center for truly making the process so seamless.
