When here for the first time ever. I am going to the same place for the last 78 years and just got tired of them increasing the prices every time I went there. First impressions are everything in this place is awesome when you walk in. Even in the middle of the workday there were still six people getting a haircut and it was completely packed. Clearly they know what they're doing and they're doing it very well. I went to Dana and just said do whatever and she did a great job. One of my favorite things was the hot towel on the neck which kept my neck from breaking out which is the first time this is ever been done and it was awesome. I also just switched over to a traditional soap dish for shaving and they have all the goods their brushes in different soaps which I will definitely be buying other goods from them from now on. I can't wait to go back at 20 bucks a haircut I'll certainly be going back on a more regular basis. read more

tldr; I really wanted to like it, probably good for standard "men's haircut", I was refused service, not especially friendly to femme/women/queer people with long hair who want to go short. I called and made an appointment for myself (a queer woman) and my roommate (a man). We both had long, thick hair; his going past his shoulders and mine just above my shoulders. He had gone to Mister Grooming & Goods before and highly recommended it. I was interested in having my hair cut to a short men's style (think Leonardo DiCaprio from Titanic but a bit longer), so I thought it fitting that I get my hair cut at a barber. Anyways, I called and made an appointment for me and my roommate, making sure to specify that both of us had long hair-- and a lot of it-- and that I wanted to go much shorter. It seemed like we were all set to go. I arrived at the barber shop and the staff, beverages, decorations--the entire atmosphere really seemed perfect. My roommate was seated first. Then, I was handed over to Gina and I explained what I wanted to with my hair and showed her pictures of men's hairstyles (and a few of Kristen Stewart just cause). She looked a little surprised and at first said that she "didn't have the materials to cut my hair." To me, this meant that she wasn't comfortable cutting my long hair to the particular style that I wanted. I was very understanding and thankful for her honesty. She then said that she *could* do the haircut, but it just wouldn't be her best work and I was only booked for 30 minutes which wouldn't be nearly enough time. Again, I was very sympathetic. With no real seriousness (after all it's just hair), I explained how I tried to tell the receptionist when I initially made an appointment that my roommate and I both had long hair. As I relayed this, I pointed to my roommate. She asked my roommate's barber, Nick, what haircut my roommate was getting (maybe some layering, an inch or two off, he said). "Well, he's a *guy*," she said in a lower tone as she waved her hand, "They're not as particular. I'd want to take more time with you." I left the shop with the same hair as I had come in with--without much apology (mainly reasons/excuses, which I had initially understood) or recommendations about where to go instead or if I should make another appointment with them. An hour and 15 minutes later, my roommate came out with an excellent hair cut. At first, I was confused about whether this issue was due to a mistake scheduling, a lack of expertise, or just plain sexism. What I do know is that I was heart-broken. Not because I was turned away-- but because of that last comment. Because my roommate was a guy with long hair, he got to have his hair cut. Because I was a woman with the same length hair (if not shorter and thinner), I didn't get my hair cut. Essentially, I was refused service. I've come to realize that there isn't really much sense to made out of it. It's been about a month since that happened, and I understand that this was an off-handed comment not meant to alienate me as a queer, somewhat femme-presenting person at the time. I was hoping to express a more masculine style through my hair, so it was especially upsetting to me that I was not able to do that precisely because it's what I wasn't already. What made it all the more surprising was that the shop appeared "hipster," which one would think would be more friendly to these sorts of issues. Again, I don't think this was intended, and don't necessarily blame the shop for my "hurt feelings" per se. But ultimately, I do think it was incredibly sloppy and rude. Needless to say, neither my roommate nor I will be returning. Mine is a fairly specific set of circumstances, so this probably won't apply to most. That being said, I'd be *very cautious* if you are queer/femme presenting/woman/non-binary/transperson etc., who has long hair, and is looking for a hair cut. read more

Looks like the secret on this place has been out for awhile. Easily the best place to get your haircut in the city of Pittsburgh. Every time I go it's impossible to leave without a smile on your face. Appointments required for sure but they are cool and text you as a reminder. This is one of the best barber shops I've been to. The only thing is that you do need to get your appointment in a few days to a week before. Understandably so as their work is good. I have had the opportunity to try out two different barbers here, both skilled at their jobs. They also offer the customers a variety of beverages while the they wait. Shampoo and conditioning after haircut is included. Reasonably priced. There's plenty of street parking on the small streets around the shop. read more

Relocated from Philly area, and my barber suggested coming to Mister Grooming, as he thought they provided the most similar service to him. And they did, for the most part - offered a drink when I arrived, the decor was far from your bland, typical shop, and the cut was decent, for having explained exactly what I was looking for. The barbers chatted amongst themselves, which was OK. Overall, for a PBR & a haircut, it was a little pricey to drive out from the North Shore. read more

Micheal and all the ladies at Mister are some of the most friendly and accommodating people ever! They've established a repeat customer in me. They are not only the most competent of hair stylists, but fun and easy to talk to. I had my first straight razor shave there and Michael was and is a genius in this arena. He makes a men's spa day a very trendy, masculine and indulgent experience. I will be returning there for all my hygiene maintenance needs. So looking for a new stylist, I was having a hard time finding someone who was able to understand what I wanted. Ali was able to figure me out, she gave me just what I was I looking for. Mister was suggested to me about a year and a half ago. I haven't stopped going since then. To be honest, there have been a few times where I could have gone another couple weeks or so without getting a cut, but I enjoy being there and the atmosphere so much that i went anyways. I have never once left not impressed (I am probably a pain because I usually want a different look every other time I am there) with the cut and overall service. I was very impressed with this place. I've usually gone to one of the older Italian Barber's in Bloomfield. Although they usually do a good job, I was looking for something different and this fit the bill. I went with a hair cut and beard trim and was very satisfied. They have excellent customer service and make you feel at ease. It was nice to be given a beer while I was there. It has a nice atmosphere and there is some cool artwork and decor. The quality of the hair cut and beard trim was very high, I couldn't have been more satisfied. The prices are very reasonable too. I can't think of another place in town that can offer a $15 hair cut on this level. They seem somewhat busy(which is a good thing), but I was able to schedule something within a few days. They also have a wide range of other options as well, so it's worth looking at their menu to see what else you might want besides just a haircut. This is definitely the best haircut I've had in Pittsburgh and I will definitely be back. I wish them only the best. read more

I've been a regular customer since they opened. I think it's near impossible to get a better value for a haircut in the city of Pittsburgh. The owners are extremely nice and you are supporting a local business not some BS chain. Mike is extremely well skilled and also very good with children. Cool place that offers you a drink while you wait. The haircuts are pretty good but this is probably the most expensive spot to get your hair cut. Price isn't always a big issue but when price is escalated then so are ny expectations and they weren't really met. read more

First time going there and it was a great experience. I got there early and checked in. A cup of coffee was a great way to start. Zack came out and introduced himself and I knew I was good to go. He was awesome and did an amazing job. I got a classic cut and a beard and mustache trim. Both were equally well done and very professional looking. He was friendly and we talked the entire time. It felt like I was hanging out rather than going to a business for a product. The price was on point for the services provided. Friends with facial hair have been urging me to go for awhile now. JERSEY SHORE meets THE KARDASHIANS... I went in with high expectations, and left the shop after my cut and decided i will never go back. I got a hangover massage and a cut that day. While getting my massage, the barber was more interested in yelling across the studio to talk to the girl working the front desk and her boyfriend who unexpectedly stopped in than paying attention to me and what she was doing. She cut my hair an inch and a half shy of what i requested, and the most ANNOYING part was the fact that they turn all the chairs to the center of the room so they can talk to each other. I didn't see the mirror until the end of the visit, only to realize what a disappointing cut i received. They were so into letting the customers know what their social life was all about. I don't care that you're going to a rave, and i don't care that you plan on wearing a bikini top to it. (i thought raves ended in 2003) They think they're cool and hip, but they're not. They may want to relocate back to Verona or deeper into the burbs. I will be going to Ryan Graham's Barber Shop a few blocks down the street from now on. read more
