I've been to Kathmandu Nepalese Restaurant a number of times in the past and was glad to read…read morerecently that they had reopened their doors after been closed for a number of weeks. Myself the wife, sister-in-law and a close friend headed down for a meal last Friday night. As always the reception we received was warm and very welcoming, the centrally located fire was lit and there was nice traditional Nepalese music playing quietly in the background. After been shown to our table we chose a lovely bottle of lebanese wine and we were served a large basket of popidoms with a selection of three dips. Starters arrived promptly, I chose the tandoori prawns and my wife chose the always good Mo,Mo's. For mains I went for the Sherpa Chili Karakura (chicken) These were to die for, utterly delicious and the herbs and spices so fresh, I am just amazed that a piece of chicken could taste so good. We didn't have room for deserts, but after asking for the bill the owner came down to our table with complimentary glasses of wine for each of us. As I had 'liked' the Kathmandu Facebook page we received 35% discount off the bill total, (offer till the end of Nov 2012) the bill came to €97 for four which included the wine - at €27 the most expensive on the list. We actually felt embarrassed with such a low price for such lovely food so we all chipped in and left a nice tip for the restaurant staff. As we live locally and have eaten in pretty much all the local restaurants in the area Kathmandu in my opinion is the best eatery in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown area, which is high well deserved praise.

Honestly, it was just an average experience--and I don't think I fall into their target audience…read more The food felt quite bland and not up to the mark. Service was slow throughout. It took around 20 minutes just to get the table cleared, another 10 minutes before someone came to take our order, and then about 25 minutes for the food to arrive--even though it wasn't a busy time. We ordered bhuna lamb, rice, and naan. The bhuna lamb was disappointing; instead of the expected rich, dark brown gravy, it tasted more like a butter chicken-style gravy. The naan was slightly hard and didn't seem properly cooked. Even the complimentary papad was stale and soft. The ambience was just okay, and the service... well, best not to say much. Overall: 3/5 (and that's being generous).

The tomato one was my favorite because it was sweet and a little spicy. We got the onion bhagi and it was nicely battered and elegantly presented with the chutney partially displayed. The lamb vindaloo was spicy with lots of peppers and the aloo kali barely had any cauliflower in it - both very saucy. I suggest getting rice because the dishes did not come with them. The service was quick and polite, they asked if we were ready for our mains before cleaning up our apps. The restaurant itself was beautiful decorated with nice wall fixtures and paintings.

Diwali Indian Restaurant was among the best food I had in over a week of visiting England,…read moreScotland, and Ireland. I visited their Camden St. location which is an area of Dublin that's buzzing with restaurants. Other more highly rated Indian restaurants (which were also more expensive) were all booked up, and I'm glad they were, since Diwali was right up our alley for tastes as they provided delicious food and excellent service. The music was great, and decor just right for ambiance. Meals start off with complimentary papadum and various chutneys, which is always appreciated. For drinks, we got the mango lassi and Cobra beer. The mango lassi had the perfect yogurt and mango accents without being too sweet, and was better than even the highly rated restaurants we went to in London. The Cobra beer was decent with regards to flavor. We tried the onion bhaji and chicken pakora to start off. The onion bhaji was a little bit oily, but great in taste and presentation, leaving us wondering how it was made as it was a pull apart variety while still preserving the chickpea batter accent with each bite. The chicken pakoras were also good, with a batter spiced just right. For main course, we ordered the butter chicken along with pulau rice and a naan. Nothing groundbreaking with regards to recipe, but just fresh and delicious food for these items. The pulau rice was better than plain basmati rice, and naan was a thin, but very generous portion. The food was so good that we returned a second night after being indecisive on where to go for dinner. The manager noticed us and provided us with mango lassi and a sampling of an aloo dish on the house, thanking us for being repeat guests. I love it when management shows such a genuine appreciation for customers like that. Service was attentive and on top of their game throughout both our visits. I'd recommend a visit to the Camden Street location of Diwali Indian Restaurant when in the mood for delicious Indian food when in Dublin.
