    Lobster Rangoon

My husband and I went for a late lunch date. It was quiet, cozy and the staff provided excellent service. Our meals were well presented and flavorful. I would eat here again.

For sushi in a small town it was edible but not something I would try again. Hibachi might be better.

I was very pleasantly surprised that they had options for me and the server was so kind and knowledgeable of their options which was so nice. I was able to get the hibachi style meal (prepared in the kitchen with gluten free soy sauce) and a fresh roll of sushi with a side of tamari! I'm sad I waited as long as I did to try it out!

I came there on the. 20th and had 13 people and two children. They charge me for 16 people and two children they picked up that was up on the counter and made me pay for. I kept telling him that was not mine and he did not care. I spent $430. He charged me 5 like $60. I keep telling him that he overcharged me 100 and some dollars and he keeps saying no no no no I didn't. He said I will show you. I always get steak and its been beefy and juicy without any fat, gristle, or other questionable parts sometimes found on restaurant beef cuts. They are always good about hearing the family member with the special requests. No onion on anything means broth for soup and said family member is happy with that. They oblige on the fried rice by cooking her veg without onion on a separate part of the grill. The chefs we have had do a couple of the things that I guess is part of the experience? Ultimately, if you are looking for hibachi in Fort Wayne, Sapporo is worth your time.

There was 3 people at the door I told her there's 3 of us but only 2 of us are eating and I wasn't hiding the bag it was in plain sight. The guy takes us over to the table lays out the menus and says "they will be with you shortly" we thanked him and sat down. While we're looking at the menu a woman comes over and says "we have a strict rule of no outside food, and there's signs all over the door that say so" I said "but the 3 people at the door seen we had it and seated us?" Confused. She said "I don't care if you would've read the doors you would've known" my husband says to me "that's fine, we will go somewhere else" she mutters "yea go f*cking somewhere else" I said "wow we don't have to have an attitude" she said "yea we don't have to have a f*cking attitude" and whips her head at my husband. We left and there were absolutely no signs on the doors. There were 2 signs for food allergies NOT outside food. That's besides the point now. Once we got back to the car I was in disbelief I decided to call and ask to speak to a manager. I started to tell him the timeline from when we walked in to when she came over, he cut me off and said "yes we do have a strict policy about no outside food" I said "sir I understand that, and that wouldn't have been an issue but you do not treat people that way, she cussed as us" he cut me off again and said "ma'am I assure you, she did not cuss at you" my husbands in the background saying "yes she did". And he kept saying it. He was being ignorant and not listening to what we were saying and wanting to argue. So I finally said "your restaurant is a f*ing joke" and hung up.

The lunch bento box is straight up hits: a California roll, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, rice and your choice of teriyaki'd protein (chicken, salmon, beef, shrimp or basa, a type of catfish). I chose salmon, which was cooked perfectly. The salmon was placed on top of the rice, so the rice kind of soaked up the teriyaki sauce and made it nice and delicious. My bento lunch came with a cup of miso soup, and it was so nourishing and briny, like only miso soup can be. So yeah. I didn't taste any of the sushi here at Umi, unless you count a California roll, which I don't. But they have lots of different types of rolls, nigiri and hand rolls. Umi also has a large menu of sake. So large, that I thought I would be remiss to not get sake to go with my lunch. The menu made me do it! So I got the chiku bai Nigori sake, and it was so smooth. Sake is served in a small pitcher with a small ceramic cup. I wasn't sure if the sake pitcher was supposed to be shared, but there was only one cup, and there was only one me, so I went for it. A sake buzz during lunch ... how extravagant. I visited for a late lunch, around 1:30 p.m., and I was the only person in the whole place. I got the full attention of the very nice server, who had 20 pens in her apron ("For when it gets busy and it's only me," she said, because I asked her why she has 20 pens in her apron.) The restaurant is tastefully decorated on the inside.

I was told they have 1 team that all works Wed-Sun (closed Mon and Tues). The bartender was really nice and honest about advice on the menu. I had questions about the sashimi salad and appreciated his opinion on it. When I asked how the crab rangoons were, I could tell he genuinely thought they were a good item to order - and they did not disappoint! The picture only shows 4 rangoons because I already ate 3, so the fact it comes with 7 is a great deal. I also ordered the chirashi since I love sashimi, and I was told I was given a few extra pieces. 2 salmon, 2 tuna, 3 yellowtail, 2 scallop, 2 unagi, 2 octopus (or squid?), 2 imitation crab, some salmon roe, and 2 lobster tail chunks; seasoned sushi rice on the bottom. This was a very filling meal. It's a dimly lit restaurant with a calm ambiance. I saved this place to come back to when I'm in the area again for work.
