I've known about this place for decades and finally we went there. It's a typical bar/hangout restaurant with tables and booths. I really wasn't in the mood to make decisions so I just ordered the Swiss Mushroom Burger. That was hands down the best burger I've ever eaten. We were driving from Indy to Detroit and wanted a place off the bypass or before and rolled the dice to stop at The Pickle. You can't miss it from the highway because there is an adorable farmer pickle riding a tractor on a mural outside! It's not fancy, darker bar feeling with pool tables up front. Despite being packed on a Friday at noon the server was proficient and friendly. The food wasn't fancy but it was hot, fresh, and good. The oven subs are fire. The breaded tenderloin was good and they have those batter dipped French fries that get nice and crispy. We would stop here again. read more

The food is incredible. The loaded baked potatoes with bbq pulled pork are to die for. I think about them way more often than I'd like to admit, haha! In terms of gluten free options, your best bet is to order sandwiches without the buns or stick to potato-based meals or salads. They have a full bar with seemingly endless options. This place isn't the nicest on the inside, and it smells extremely strong of smoke. With that being said, it is a bar, so that is a bit expected. Found the Pickle on our way from Detroit to Indianapolis. Wonderful food and service. I had the Southwest chicken salad, my husband had the tenderloin sandwich basket, we got a kale slaw, spicy pickle chips, and ice tea. Good portions and less than $30 for all of it. This is a bar up front and a restaurant in the back. I only gave it 4 stars because it is a smoking establishment. Nobody was smoking when we were there before noon, but it is allowed. read more

We recently moved to Huntington. We've been in search of great food & relaxed atmosphere & we've found it! This place has fantastic food, fair prices & friendly staff. Our only complaint is that we wish it was closer to us! Try the pulled pork nachos or ANY burger, you won't be disappointed. Reading previous reviews about smoking inside- there is no longer smoking. We've been frequenting for about 4/5 months & haven't seen/smelled any smoking inside. And for those concerned, the staff is wearing masks. read more

Of all places to have an amazing dining experience, the Pickle is probably in my top five places. Not only is the food delicious, it's quick and super affordable. Yes, it is a smoking bar which means if you have allergies or asthma is might not be the place for you. However, this place was meant to be a community center and that is exactly what it is. My future mother0in-law, and her husband, are huge fans of this place and I am so happy I got to see it. I am definitely looking forward to eating here next time we are in Markle. read more

My wife chose The Pickle as her Birthday Dinner.. Nice Atmosphere, very friendly waitress, excellent food.. She had the Philly Steak Potato.. Now let me tell you about this tater... Starters it is a 1lb baked potato, Philly meat,, sauteed Onions and Green Peppers, and cheese... So big she took half home for lunch tomorrow..I had the Big Daddy Burger.. Hamburger patty, provolone cheese, 3 Breaded Cheese sticks on top, Bacon and the most delicious Bourbon BBQ sauce I've ever had... The sauce was also great as a French fry dip... Went with wife and three other couples on a Thursday night. The service was so, so. But the waitress did mention that it was her first week, so some latitude should be given for that area. It took awhile to get our drinks, and for a bar you would think they would know how to pour a Crown Royal and water. The waitress asked three times what our friend meant by "Crown and water". The bartender even came to the table to ask him. One thumb down on the service. The food was excellent. We received everything in a timely fashion and all the orders were correct. Two thumbs up on the food. When we were walking up to the entrance, there was a sign outside listing several of their drink specials, one of which was Bourbon Barrel Ale for $2.00. As I enjoy craft beers, I ordered one when we placed our drink order. When we got our bill, I noticed I was charged $4.50 for the beer. When we went up to pay, I mentioned to the bartender (she was the one taking the money) that the price on the sign said $2.00 and I was charged $4.50. She got all huffy and snooty and informed me that I was mistaken and that the price was $4.50. With a line of people behind me waiting to pay, I decided to not argue the point with her and paid the $4.50. When we left, the eight of us were standing outside talking. I went over and checked the sign, and it absolutely said $2.00 for the beer. After a couple of minutes, the bartender (she might be a owner or manager) came out and went over to the sign, looked at it and proceeded to go back inside. She wouldn't even look at me, and never offered to refund the price difference to me. Poor public relation skills on her part. 16 thumbs down on customer relations! If I ever do go back, I will make sure to check on their special prices before ordering them. read more

Thought we would stop on way to Indianapolis; a good halfway point for us. Immediately upon entering, cigarette smoke. Really? We should have turned around right then. It was fairly full and they were not sufficiently staffed. We chose the cleanest booth and were waited on about every 10-15 minutes. First ten, table wiped. Second ten-drinks. Third ten- menus. Fourth ten-orders. Took an hour for our food to arrive. Friendly enough but way too hometown slow. Would go back again though, food was good and would like to try drink special. Second stop here. Full menu - great burgers! Good variety of fries, chips, onion rings, English cut fries. Good selection on beer. Only one minute off of the interstate - I69. Free wifi! My only beef - it's a smoking bar / restaurant. Can't bring the kids and always stink when I leave. read more

If you don't mind the smoke, this is a good place to get tasty yet inexpensive food. Their "potato boats" are a huge platter of potato cubes smothered in any variety of toppings and a lot of cheese, all for around $7. The burgers and fries are nothing to write home about. It's a good local bar with lots of activity on a Saturday night. A good place to go with a group of friends. Waitresses are friendly and do a good job of making sure your drink orders don't run dry. read more

We will never eat here again! Stopped on our way to the winery. Seemed like a nice local bar with great food, great taco potatoes. However, when the waitress brought us boxes to put our leftovers into, there was a hair underneath my food on the plate. As we discreetly told the waitress once she finally came back with our bill, she apologized and said she would be back. When she returned, she asked if 1/2 off was ok or what did we want? We said that was fine even though we would not be able to take the leftovers. Really? I just ate food with hair in it. Sure, 1/2 off is fine. What were we supposed to say? Then, to top it off, I had a drink in a small disposable plastic bucket, which we were going to take with us (empty of course), and the bartender stopped us and said we couldn't take it with us. I used to live in Markle as a child back in the late 70s/early 80s. Back then this place was the dime store. I used to come here to buy candy! I came back thru in 96 when it was another bar and I was once again driving thru town and just had to stop in for lunch. There were a few parties at the tables and some people up at the bar (there was a faint smell of smoke, though I don't think anyone was smoking at the time). Being a vegetarian, my options were the loaded potato with veggies, cheese pizza (w/ veggies) and grilled cheese/fries. I opted for the loaded potato. It was pretty good. The cheese was plentiful (and they gave you two 'squeeze' containers of sour cream). The veggies were a little too firm/undercooked for my liking, but overall I enjoyed it. I also got a second meal out of it the next day (as my 'side'). The service was good and there are obviously a lot of locals that come here. It was a nice afternoon going down memory lane. read more
