My daughter recommended Palmetto Primary Care and Dr. Teachman. I called to make an appointment and they were very nice. They texted me a link to fill out all my forms, attach a copy of my insurance card, and pay my copay ahead of time. It was so easy and allowed me to breeze right into the appointment. The assistant was very nice and put me at ease, taking my blood pressure and history. I really liked Dr. Teachman. He said he wanted to get to know me. He took time to understand my family history and talk about my lifestyle. I felt very comfortable, not nervous, like when I usually visit a new doctor. I trust that we have a good plan moving forward for my care. Checking out was easy, and I made a follow-up appointment for 6 months. The offices and waiting room are beautiful and clean. The staff is super friendly. If you are looking for a doctor that takes time to get to know a patient and really listens while providing excellent care, this is the place for you. Highly recommend.

I originally came in for a routine physical, which should have been fully covered by my insurance. Instead, I was billed for standard services like bloodwork. It took SIX MONTHS of repeated calls and back-and-forth to get this addressed. Every time you call, you're routed to a call center, which makes resolving anything even more difficult. After reading other reviews, it seems like this is a common issue here. On top of that, basic accuracy seems to be a problem. I'm 5'10" and fully grown, yet they initially recorded me as 6'1". When I questioned it, my chart was later updated to 5'6" -- which is wildly inaccurate and concerning. The most frustrating part: I specifically went in last fall to establish care and ensure continuity for a prescription after moving from NC. I clearly explained that I didn't need a refill at that time since my previous doctor had just sent one in. I was told that was fine and that I could simply call when I needed a refill. When I called today, they refused to fill it and said I'd need to come in for another appointment and pay again -- completely contradicting what I was previously told. Overall, this office is disorganized, inconsistent, and incredibly frustrating to deal with. I would AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

An elderly couple arrived at the locked front door due to COVID-19 precautions, and per posted instructions obviously used their phone to announce their arrival. The call was obviously not going through, or being answered, even though they were readily visible about 8' away from the front desk through glass doors . At least one on the phones could see them, but made no effort to pause their conversation briefly to acknowledge them. When the door was unlocked to let me out, the nurse / assistant asked them "Can I help you?" and then told them they needed to call to announce. They told her they did call, but no one answered. Her answer to them was: "You have to call again; they're off the phones now" and locked the door behind me. Excellent doctor, lazy staff! [My instructions had been to arrive 15 min early, which I did. When I called, I was told the "nurse is out to lunch." She finally arrived 15 min after my appointment, but I had been kept waiting in 90+ degree heat for 30 minutes, and had to re-call to remind the staff of my presence.]

I finally went to the front desk to find out what was happening and to confirm the nature of my appointment. I was told Irene was "behind" and that they don't do annual checkups until after a new patient intake, which no one mentioned at any point before or during the visit. Most doctors do both at once, since it involves the same information. They told me Irene would now see me, so I returned to the room--only to overhear Irene Spanos badmouthing me, clearly frustrated that I had "left the room," even though I had been sitting there for 40 minutes without any communication. To make things worse, some staff members overheard what she said and apologized to me, which shows this wasn't just a misunderstanding--it was unprofessional conduct. This experience made me feel disrespected, dismissed, and uncomfortable, and I will not be returning. I came here for my first COVID-19 vaccine, and MUSC has the process down. Signs tell you where to…read morego, and the desk is staffed that you don't have to wait to check in. I arrived to my 2:40 PM appointment about five minutes early. As soon as I checked in at the desk, the receptionist directed me into an exam room to get my shot. The nurse, Norine, was upbeat and positive. She asked a few questions- the usual consent to receive the vaccine, and that I had not tested positive for COVID recently or received antibody treatments. Norine said she'd been giving COVID-19 vaccines every day since February, and she was a pro. I barely felt the needle. My second appointment is in three weeks, as I got the Pfizer vaccine. I waited for 15 minutes before leaving, which is standard for COVID-19 shots. There are no magazines in the waiting room, so if you don't want to be on your phone, take a magazine or book. Parking is free in the large lot, and I only spent about 20 minutes total (shot + wait) here. The one side effect I experienced was soreness at the injection site, for about a day. The only thing that could've improved my experience would be a fun band-aid or a sticker, but alas, I got a shot of hope for returning to normal in the future.
