Came here to register for my Winter Semester.........wasn't happy. The only reason why I chose this school, because it was closer to my house, save me gas, and catch up with some units, because I didn't get to go to PCC in the Fall. Anyways..... Admission: The worker wasn't helpful at all.....they gave me wrong information about out of fee students. She also gave me a hard time, asking me non sense question. The acted like a bitch and told me I will never be a in state student! (I just wanted to establish my residency, because before Spring semester, I will be in state) Register Online: You have to wait for a letter! (Wth, such a waste of time) You have to make an appointment to take a test and it's not anytime you like -_____- So I never showed up to it, not bc of the schedule. BUT BC THE WORKERS THERE ARE NOT FRIENDLY AT THE ADMISSION AREA. WHO EVER HELPED ME THAT DAY, IT'S STUPID AND RUDE. Parking: A PAIN!!!!! A PAIN!! even PCC parking is a pain: But its alot better the way their parking lots is. Picking classes online, seems pretty difficult too. Okay enough said. That was why it had 2 stars. This is a great community college with many teachers that actually care for their students success. The school offers free tutoring and free 30 min parking at certain areas something that the universities don't have. The college is also very high tech, getting bigger and more programs are being created. I had the most caring teachers, awesome tutors, and very helpful counselors. The financial aid staff are also nice and respectful. I graduated few years ago with associates. They offer certificates too. I took a makeup artistry and eyebrow threading classes for fun too. The negative part is that they are now offering less classes that before, it's over crowded, not enough parking for anyone. They should have parking structures. There is no on phone customer service. Also, some programs like nursing, radiology, mental technician have a long waiting list to their program. read more

Before I came to Mt SAC, I went to a UC that I will not name, under circumstances that I'd prefer not to describe. The only reason that's relevant is to establish that I have the basis for a comparison. The student body of this school can basically be divided into a few groups: People who came here to enrich themselves, and people who really don't want to be here. MtSAC is the biggest community college in California, with over 40,000 students. This being said, these 40 thousand students have very little sense of community. A lot of people are here seem to wish they were somewhere else, which is understandable, I guess, but the instruction is really very good. However, because there are so many students, a lot of the staff is horrendously unhelpful. If you need something done, don't bother calling, you're much better off coming in to take care of it. The office staff and phone system are both HORRIBLE and it is defnintely not uncommon for a person to be on hold for 45 minutes before somebody answers, and then puts that person on hold again. Aside from the professors and administrators, the staff is generally pretty unhelpful. This, combined with the difficulty of getting classes, can make a lot of people's lives very uncomfortable and is one of the primary reasons a lot of people dislike the school. The professors are definitely better than I'd expected when I first came in from a UC. The classes aren't horribly overcrowded, and half the class tends to drop about halfway through the semester, so parking and class sizes improve dramatically as the weeks roll by. There are quite a few student organizations, and honestly, if you want to get the best out of this school, then JOIN ONE. If not, you can wander about, like so many Mounties who still have their same friends from high school and feel bored at Mt. SAC. Or, you can join a group of like-minded students and meet new friends and have new adventures. If you're talented, you should consider joining Mt. SAC's competitive groups like Football, Basketball, Forensics (Speech and Debate and Acting) and Choir, among others. All of the aforementioned programs have won state and national championships in 2010, by the way. Mt. SAC is a place where you can really develop your skills and meet a ton of people, but it's also somewhere that you can easily get stuck. Classes aren't the easiest thing to get, with the school being so crowded, and certain transfer-required classes filling up almost instantly at registration. As I said, if you don't joina student group of some kind, or don't take any initiative to make new friends, it can be a very lonely time, and very frustrating to work in this very crowded school. But if you DO join a group, if you do join a team, and you do get the classes you want, Mt. SAC can be extremely beneficial. It can be a place where you prove doubters wrong, and you find out that the limits you'd set for yourself earlier in life really don't apply anymore. It can be a place where you go, and then look back and realize that your previous life goals were a lot lower than what you expect of yourself now. Mt. SAC is a school where the students ages can range from 16 to 47 in the same classroom, and where the highly motivated are contrasted by the completely unmotivated. If you can push yourself to do more, you'll be fine at Mt. SAC. If you just spend your time wishing you were at another school, then that's really more of a personal issue than the school's fault. read more

I recently graduated from a UC with my BA and started attending mt.sac to complete a few prerequisites for a master's program. It's true that getting classes was challenging my first semester because I had freshman regrstration standing. However my second semester I enrolled in 4 classes, not at first but people drop so most professors allow you to stick around. The professors I've had have all been great and there are so many resources for students to succeed. I've especially benefited fron the free math tutoring available every day. From what I've noticed, the reason students take more than two years to transfer is because getting classes is challenging due to budget cuts and part time enrollment may be inevitable for some students that have other responsibilities beside school. Either way, having attended a 4 year university straight out of high school and until now experiencing a community college, I have to say that CC's are the way to go and Mt. SAC is great. Yes finding parking is awful in the mornings but just park in one of the further parking areas, if you're able-bodied it won't kill you to walk a little extra. It's usually not difficult to find parking for a evening classes. read more

I never thought I would have to leave a yelp review just to get the attention of someone superior who can hopefully make some policy changes BUT here I go. First off let me start by saying I am a 28 year old working professional who unlike the younger crowd does not have the ability to go to campus between 8 am to 5 pm on a weekday. On my first day of the semester I was able to attend my 6:30 class and as I got to the campus early I figured I would go get my Student ID since there was a sign that said they were open until 8 pm so I go to wait in line and turns out I owe an $11 health fee so I need to pay my fee before I can get my pic taken so I go to where they recommended at the cashiers and they were closed at 5. I was not able to get a photo ID afterwards because the ID booth closed at 2 pm everyday for the rest of the semester. Never phased me until today at the end of my semester. I needed help with my TI-84 calculator. I was recommended by my not so helpful stats teacher to go to the MARC to get help. I call the MARC to see if I needed to make an appointment and to ask for more info such as hours, etc. They told me in order to use the MARC services I would need my MT. SAC ID, I told the lady my whole story that I mentioned above and she insisted that I need the ID so she says to call the bookstore and I said that I will so I call and they say they close at 2 pm everyday and that there is no other way to get one. So I call the MARC back and asked if I can bring in more than 2 forms of ID and my class schedule and they said no. Now this is NOT this lady's fault she is simply following her role as an employee enforcing the school's policy. What she said next was just unnecessary and I definitely did not to be kicked while I was down. She said " you know its already the last week of the semester and you are waiting until now to try and get an ID and get tutoring help, we (the MARC) are open every day from 9 am to 7pm" I then asked her if that was a condescending remark and if so what does she get out of it? Look my TI-84 had a malfunction for linear regression where the formula would come out to Y=ax+b not Y=a+bx and my L1 was missing entirely from the edit menu. I needed an educated tutor who is good with calculators to help me, why the hell do I ABSOLUTELY need my MT SAC ID???????? I had a hard time on my test and honestly, I blame texas instruments and the lack of help and support and hours and stupid policies that have no wiggle room for exceptions like this.... I had a name brand purse, $1,000 IPhone, 5 credit cards, an old Rio Hondo ID, and my CA ID that I would have gladly given as collateral for some HELP!. Hope I made my point and lastly I hope administrators see this to make a change! read more

The staff (admissions, counseling etc) really need to get it together. So far , every time I've spoken with someone over the phone, I get a rude person that almost seems like they either don't know how to do their job, or they just don't want to help, or they're just plain lazy. Going in person doesn't help either. They have you running around in circles just to accomplish one task! The staff that they hire are obviously students and very young and clearly lack socialization skills.Based on what I've experienced with the staff is , they should be required to learn communication, professionalism and customer service skills. I feel like getting anything done here as far as admissions, takes a few trips to the campus and multiple days for ONE thing..... very frustrating campus. This place is great if you need to take a couple of classes for whatever reason but dont even try to seriously rely on this school for help. Admissions and counseling services at this school are a joke. ( I dont understand how they can with a straight face say that they have too much work to do and cant send anyones transcripts express as they browse facebook) Mt Sac also has many classes other local community colleges dont. Mt Sac has provided me with all of the tools I needed to be successful and succeed toward my Associates Degree in Nursing. Starting from their counselors, especially Kathleen Clarke, always available to guide you in the right direction according to your career goals. The nursing department is more than willing to help prepare, always organizing tutoring hours specifically for nursing students as well as encouraging students to become involved on campus and in our community through CNSA. I have been extremely pleased with my choice of attending Mt Sac to complete my degree in nursing and because of their expertise I am confident that I am well prepared for what the world of registered nurses has to offer. read more

I was a student here in the Nursing Department in early 2000s and really liked the program. I passed the test on the first try and when I got promoted at work due to my new license, I was able to go even higher in my career. I am actually retired now and thanks to Mt SAC my pension is very good. The program had a lot of practical experience in a variety of different hospitals around the community. And the program was very inexpensive which is a great way to jumpstart a rewarding career! I love being a nurse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I like the smell of agriculture and the fact that this school is in the boondocks. They have technical classes for the price of community college classes. They always give away free planners at the beginning of the school year and the faculty are genuine. The staff are helpful and keep the student's paperwork organized so the admin flows smoothly. An amazingly large junior college with sports accolades that of a private university. The campus is really.clean, the athletic areas are well maintained and done well. Parking is just as everyone would expect a.college campus to be like. There are a lot of places around this campus to eat, drink, relax, and live all while never having to own a car to achieve the aforementioned. read more

This is a nice college to work at. Students, faculty, and staff that I have encountered have all been very friendly. Everyone seems to be very student-centered and the students are always very appreciative when providing them with assistance. There are lots of places to eat at around the college and the library and labs are open much later than most community colleges. read more

i graduated may 2oO4 and received my associates degree from mt sac, aka mt slack, aka harvard on the hill, and probably a bunch of other akas.. :P and i ended up transferring to csuf. honestly, mt. sac is not a bad school. they offer a variety of classes, including some of my favorites such as astronomy, swim, japanese, dance, all the math classes :P and i actually kinda enjoyed business law and humans and the environment class (in which we had a class across the street where the mt. sac wildlife sanctuary is).. i also worked at mt sac maybe ten hours a week while i was attending school there. one semester (my last semester) i was there from noon or 1pm~ish (i had another job in the morning) till 945pm!! i had so many various classes and spent so much time there that i knew where pretty much where everything was. if someone asked where __ building was, i pointed to that direction. i enjoyed mt sac and kinda miss it that i've decided to come back, hopefully for another degree ^_^ btw, i never had a huge parking issue since most of my classes were in the evening or late afternoon :D read more

This is the states largest JC, with many courses to pick from. The campus is large and constantly growing. This college has a friendly & helpfull staff of teachers students. Parking can be rougher in the fall and spring sessions. They also have a good farmers market on Sat. mornings. An award winning football team,as well as a good track & field team. read more

Transferred out of here after 3 years. Getting classes can be a pain at first and you gotta sit in classes for a week hoping to get a spot. Once you get a decent amount of units it isn't so bad. The professors here are top notch, I've taken classes at Universities and I can tell you that most of the professors here are much better. They are focused on teaching not just showing up for an hour to read off a powerpoint after doing research all day. Like most other things in life, you get what you put in. All the resources are here for you. There are tutoring centers and TAs for most of the harder classes. The counselors are also there if you are unsure about what you're doing. read more

I've never attended college here. This review is strictly regarding the swimming pool. The have a nice 50 meter by 25 yard pool. They have driven me crazy over the years. When I first started coming here to swim, I was charged $1 for a semester. Then they decided to drop the fee, and make it free, then they charged a couple of bucks. The fee is now $70 per semester, or I could buy a swim session card for less. They have a Master's program if you want to pay for that. The pool is nice and clean. Kickboards, paddles, pull buoys are all available. They also have other tools of torture that you can borrow. Louis who runs the masters program is a nice guy and will help you with your technique, and give you workouts. The locker room is old and dated. I wouldn't use it. I'd rather drive home than take the chance of catching some kind of fungus. It is almost impossible to swim here in the summer. Too many classes for children. read more

First of all, it's the biggest community college in california. So far I've attended 2 other cc's prior to coming to mt. sac, my conclusion is that mt. sac has the best professors around, and top of the line facilities. I love it here! My first year here, teachers and professor are excellent. You be sure to make new friends!! There are too many people .. Very crowded and you will never get board, let me tell you.. You will never go hungry because food evrey where and the book store sales pens pencils and a lot of stuff (ECT.) you must try the cafe French fries outside its bomb . The problem is that parking is a bitch .. Come early like an hour early . It can take you up to two hours to find parking, let me tell you it's horrible .. Lucky us they are building a parking structure. School is huge, so if you hate walking this school isn't for you... You will have a great experience and a lot of clubs and bus transportation . From a vistor's perspective, I like how parking's only $2, but when I came to study at their library, I was disappointed in how small it was. It also didn't have a lot of good on campus food options. Came here for the Fire Academy. Took my classes, and was in the Academy in my 3rd semester. Several serious issues arose of harassment from one of the students, I took it to the director of the program, who is now in jail on an unrealted crime... and he refused to do something about it. Then, i took it to several of the school officials, and was met with the same results. Several months later, the person was arrested for doing the same type of behavior to other people outside of the school. The school then attempted to offer a refund for the program, that I completed 18 months prior in an attempt to cover themselves from a lawsuit. Although I refused. I didn't pursue any charges against any of them. The school isn't bad per say. I just wouldn't consider coming back nor referring people. Parking stinks. Bring running shoes. read more

I love mt sac. This place really opened my eyes a lot, I was very narrow minded in high school and didn't see the benefit in education. After taking philosophy, sociology, and psychology my whole mindset changed. The only shitty thing about mt sac is the parking, but I got a great education from this place and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Also for first timers classes are hard as fuck to get if you don't have priority registration, but hang in there and don't be shocked if you end up spending 4 years at a 2 year community college! read more

This school is not that military friendly....when you need help because the system is messed up ....admissions will not help you. They pass you on to another dept and with a huge attitude...I am a veteran and I used to go to Irvine valley college. I will be going back to that school because people answer your questions....you can actually see a counselor....especially for vets! At mt sac when it's urgent...like for example...the system didn't pick up on math I had already taken at IVC...so mtsacs system messed up and I couldn't enroll in a math class...I asked admissions if they could help....they "shooed" me away to counseling....wait a minute...I gave admissions my transcripts....they are supposed to put it in the system...and they don't want to help me...I call the veterans center and I would've had to wait a week to talk to a counselor....so I had to resort to an online counselor to help....it's just ridiculous....when I first started going to mtsac, people actually helped you....but now they are just fucking lazy.
