Montessori of Walnut has truly been like a second home for us over the past three years. From the very beginning, the warmth and care of the teachers made us feel like part of a little family. My daughter has so many sweet memories--from the daily classroom activities to the exciting summer events like the petting zoo and hula dancing. Honestly, I'm not sure who looked forward to those more--her or me! I really appreciate that the school is tucked away from busy streets, with private playgrounds that feel safe and secure. The whole campus is always very clean and well-organized, which speaks volumes about how much they care. One of the things I've valued the most is the daily communication. For three years straight, I received updates on how my daughter was doing--whether she napped, how much she ate, and even little notes if her behavior changed. My child had a great experience at this school. Staff was nice and professional and all the parents I talked to loved the school. My child was here for daycare and learned numbers, shapes, letters and more. When TK came around he was ahead of the class with what he learned here. I read the negative reviews and I had the opposite experience with this school/daycare. My child learned so much so fast. There were some issues with other kids but it was resolved. My daughter started here last year right when she turned 1 and so far it's been a great experience! She's made so many great friends and learned so much! She already talked a lot before she started but now she's talking in full sentences! This is my 16th summer being contracted with Montessori of Walnut as an extracurricular program owner, and I can still say I truly love it here and am continually impressed with every aspect of the school, staff, and students alike. The kids are happy and well-adjusted, thanks to the routines the school implements in each class, making it comfortable for all students to know what to expect. Little kids thrive on routine and organization, and if you want your child to be a happy, well-adjusted human, I highly recommend Montessori of Walnut. Since my last review, I have added a second program to the school called Active Youth, a sports & fitness extracurricular program. Active Youth has been contracted with Montessori of Walnut since 2012, and I have been fortunate to teach the kids at this school year-round. I love teaching my programs here for many reasons: the school grounds are immaculate and spacious, and the staff is super friendly and inviting not just to the students and their parents but also to me. My son, a Covid baby (born 2020) had to deal with the struggles of early social distancing and I wanted to ensure he'd hit his developmental milestones and develop a keen sense of vital socialization. My daughter is an advanced learner who loves challenges and new experiences. It's been two years since my kids started going here and we are happy to send our kids here. Of course we have the occasional kids crying about not wanting to leave us but they are always happy when we pick them up. My kids love their teachers. They been thru 3 class rooms and they always talk about missing their previous teachers and want to stop by to say hi and give them hugs. We started during Covid when communication felt limited, but now we talk to the teachers daily and get a full report. This is a wonderful place to have your kids enrolled in. The facility is spotless and always SO clean. It's impressive how spotless the place is. There's never even stains in the rollout carpet. The teachers are always making sure the areas are spotless. Teachers look very professional as they all wear matching green aprons and uniforms. I have a total of three kids come through this school. I love that the older kids will have weekly homework that is voluntary that you can participate in. My kids were way ahead academically than kids from Other schools (recognizing letters/ writing their name=because they practiced on homework every week) etc. I love the homework packet allows me to sit with my daughter and work with her on things she is learning about at school. The director is very experienced and runs a well oiled ship. Even when she is not there I know my concerns and questions are addressed by staff. This place is family, owned and operated and not commercial. We have toured over six other schools, both commercial and privately owned. This place has the most space and is the most clean and has great square footage. The play equipment is kept in good working order. The bathrooms That potty train my little one has at least six toilets at a time rather than some of the other facilities we looked at that only had two or less for all the kids. They provide optional lunch that you can purchase, which a lot of the other facilities do not. This is very handy as I'm a very busy working Mom, and dad is busy as well. I think the most important is that the Director hires really good quality teachers that really love the kids and are always smiling and show so much patience. They do not seem overworked they do not have tattoos. They dress very professional. I think the kid to teacher a ratio is always very good for the space that the kids are running around and I never feel like my child is pinned in a small, cramped room. I never feel that my child is in a yucky dirty space with stains on the carpet and crumbs everywhere. They have a really cute communal library. That's always very organized and kept so neat. They go of their way to take seasonal photos with Santa or mermaid day and send them home on occasion. No extra fee. They are friendly . They always let you know if your kid was injured and you never have doubt of child safety. Well organized. It is worth me driving an 2 hours total (30 min there and 30 min back home) each day. We have since moved far away and only wished that we lived closer rather than further from this special school so distance traveling there has been harder for us . We love MOW. Even though the location was the less convenient choice in terms of distance, it has been MORE than worth the compromise. My little one has been going to Montessori of walnut since she was two, and it's been an incredible journey watching their commitment to the kids and their love for education. I like the fact that the kids get a homework packet every week, this really gets the kids in the mind set of homework as well as the parents. The staff is great!!! Warning for parents, please observe your children carefully for changed behavior after attending this school. My daughter who is now entering the 8th grade entered this school for the first year of her schooling. She does well in school and is very well behaved, however, she just revealed / recounted a traumatic memory from her childhood here. I'll just say some of the teachers intentionally inflict stress borderlining mental abuse on children who are too young to speak up for themselves. In our case, my daughter (who was 3) forgot the teacher's name on her second day of school and dealt with a really angry teacher for her mistake. Upon hearing this, I went to see if other parents have encountered this and I see reviews ranging from years ago to very recent across various review sites. My wife and I wish had known this sooner. My daughter did end up changing preschools because we sensed something was wrong but my daughter was too young to know how to express it or what she was observing wasn't normal or acceptable. This occurred 10 years ago but it seems like it still goes on. I'm sure most parents won't take the time to leave a comment about something that happened so far back but I felt that if I could help prevent another child from suffering through this, then it was well worth my time in leaving this review. read more

My first son went to MOW 8 years ago. After 8 years, we are back at this school for my 2nd son. The school, my opinion, is the best Montessori school in the region. The location is secluded from the main road which avoided all noises from the traffic. MOW has plenty of space for children to participate both indoor and outdoor activities. My eldest daughter loved Montessori of Walnut (MOW). She started reading when she was 3 years old and the teachers individualized her lesson plans so that she can continued to be challenged. She flourished at MOW academically and socially. My oldest son attended in 2019-2020. Mrs. Laura and all of the teachers we interacted with were amazing. My son was well prepared for kindergarten and learned valuable social skills. Today after watching a news report about a abusive day care, I realized how blessed I was to find and have had my daughter attend M.O.W... We've been a Montessori of Walnut family for three years now and we love it. Ms. Laura, teachers and staff have all been wonderful to work with in developing my daughter's life and learning skills. Our daughter has excelled here and we have seen her growth week over week. This is a true Montessori school. The school offers extra curriculum (music, dancing, sports, and summer camps) and our daughter enjoys the classes, swim in the summer and dance, music and sports classes during the other seasons. She just turned four years old and is mastering simple math equations (addition and subtractions), recognizes words, writes her name without help. She is organized, cleans up after herself when she's done playing with her toys at HOME. Together we are raising we are raising a good citizen. Now that the infant room has been reopened, our son has joined the MOW family and just like we experienced the growth with our daughter we see him growing week over week. We enrolled our daughter at MOW the day after she turned 2 (she turned 2 on a Sunday) and she's been there for 7 months now and it's been a really great environment for her. As a new parent, I didn't really know what to expect, but the teachers are very caring and teach the same values that I deem as important - being courteous, friendly, and respective (i.e. say please, thank you, etc.). We're in room 7, and I have to say that Ms. Susan is a rock star. She's very caring, but firm and provides the structure, guidance and discipline our daughter really needs. Ms. Amber (who is leaving soon) was also a very kind teacher and she will be missed. So far, all the teachers have been wonderful. They really seem to take their job seriously and have a genuine care for the children. My wife and I did visit several Montesorri locations but decided on this one because the facility was very clean, the children seemed happy, and the teachers seemed like they really enjoyed what they're doing. The director Ms. Laura really made a very positive impression when we first visited the school, and we had to be on a wait list for several months because our daughter hadn't turned 2 yet. She sounded experienced, knowledgeable, caring, and had a real passion for the school, and after being at the school for over 7 months, those impressions we had were true. Kids will be kids - so kids will cry, throw their tantrums, etc. (our daughter is no perfect child by any means), but we feel very comfortable as to how the staff at MOW deals with these challenges. read more

MOW is a wonderful place for my 2.5 years old daughter to be. My daughter started at MOW back in March 2017 (last year) when she turned 2, and she was placed in ROOM 7 with Ms Susan and Ms Amber. I am very sad to see all the previous bad comments about this lovely place because I don't think it is FAIR to all the wonderful teachers and stuff here. Ever since the first day, I knew my daughter is in GOOD HANDS here at MOW. The director, Ms Laura, is super welcoming and very patient about every single question you have for her. The stuff at the front desk, Ms Adriana and Ms Lauren are also super helpful. Every morning, they will welcome you with a warm smile and greetings when you first walk in the front door. The classroom (room 7) itself is so PEACEFUL and most kids looked bright and happy. I really admire Ms Susan, Ms Amber, and Ms Carolina's patience with all the children in room 7. My daughter is a very shy person and she usually scared of new people she encounters. However, she LOVE LOVE LOVE all her teachers in room 7. She also likes Ms Sally and Ms Kayla in room 8 (next door), she sees them in the mornings and at the playground during the outside playtime. In room 7, Ms Susan, Ms Amber, and Ms Carolina are the best teachers you can ever ask for. They are all very nice and caring people. I can really tell that they are genuinely care about all the children in room 7, and they have lots and lots love and patience to offer to all the kids. My daughter is very lucky to have them in her life. My daughter is learning so much everyday at MOW and she is always very happy to be dropped off here every morning. My daughter has also been taking the Tutu dance class with Ms Lauren and the Chinese class with Ms Rose. Both teachers are excellent and very knowledgeable of what they are doing. After all, MOW has been given me a peace of mind in the past 7 months knowing that my daughter is in the good hands and will have a good day at MOW with all the wonderful teachers and stuff. Update 2 weeks later! I've always wondered what happens to people after their initial review. Did things get better? Were you able to resolve the issue or things took a turn for the worst? Unfortunately in my case, it was the latter of the two. I've lowered the stars from 2 to 1. I had an agonizing conversation with Mrs. Laura and I take back all the nice things I said about her. She calls with a blocked number, I was on my lunch break and on another line but she rudely went on when I asked if I could call back. She started the conversation referring to the previous Yelp review. She said "so what are you going to do? Is today your last day?" You can tell right off the bat, they will not compromise, they are not here to apologize, they just want you gone. Long story short, Mrs Laura was very unprofessional, she is the type of person where it's her way or the highway. She stands firm that the school is not here to "babysit". My kid peed his pants too many times. She is also not here to deal with us parents because we forget his sheets, we didn't put an ice pack when we brought him water and Packaged bags of snacks. She even accused me of not saying hi to the teachers when I drop off my child in the morning (most of the time I do! I even opened the door for Mrs. Adrianna, but I have a conference call in the mornings so when I'm on a call I try to stay quiet). But yes, that was one of the reasons why she wanted us removed from the school. When I told her this week we made an effort to make things better. We brought the child extra cloth and donated clothes to the class so other parents do not have to go through the same agony. Mrs. Laura condemned that as unnecessary. Even my conversation with my own child was twisted and used against me. The last straw happened to be when I called her out for interrupting me; the same thing she did when I tried to defend myself during her accusations. Thats when she lost it! It is hard to imagine that she is the face of MOW. It actually explains Mrs Adrianna's behavior; great leadership. The other negative reviews were correct. The moment you raise any concerns they want you gone. They have a way of manipulating your words; you can tell it is not their first time. The way they commented about the other Yelp reviews when we asked during the initial screening process sounded perfect. Its not until you are in the same situation when you realize what the other parents went through. At the end of the day, we just want a reliable childcare that puts the children's best interest first. We are no where near perfect but we can sense and appreciate the kindness in people. Preschool is where your child experience the outside world for the first time. Make it a good one! Yes Mrs Laura, some 4 year olds have accidents once a year and I'm sorry mine did not meet that expectation. Personally, I choose to not stress him out and allow him to take his time. His psychological/physical health is my responsibility but to the school he is just a number. It is a shame the owner choose to do nothing after all these negative experiences. As I stated on the phone, my reviews accurately reflects my experience with this facility. There is no need to raise your voice. Montessori is supposed to be all about nurturing and fitting the curriculum to the child's learning method. This place doesn't seem like it's nurturing or flexible at all. My kid went to MOW for nearly 2 months, it was not a pleasant experience, after 1 and half month we decide to pull my kid out of MOW, and here is why... I noticed that most of kids and parents are speaking Chinese, probably Chinese language will be much easier for them to understand what we try to share, if you cannot read it, please refer to other persons' comments. 我的儿子今年3岁半，是个聪明乖巧但是好玩的小孩。 我们希望可以为他找到一个合适的学校，因此我们就到了MOW. 第一次的学校参观我和我太太就惊讶的发现，每一个班上的小朋友都是十分安静、规矩的在做自己的事，我们对学校能把孩子教的这么好，感到不可思议，也马上决定加入行列，希望我们的儿子也可以在学校学会规矩。 刚开始上学时，一切还好，但因为我们在家中是使用中文，孩子的英文不好，和老师的沟通有了些问题，然后我们开始常常接到了学校的电话，要我马上去学校接小孩回家，要我们去接时有各种理由。老师在我去接他的时候，会狠狠的数落他，同时学校还会要求我们回家后要配合处罚他，例如把家里的玩具拿走，然后又发明了颜色卡来量化我儿子在学校犯错的次数，他是班上唯一的新生，也是唯一的一个用颜色来区分是否是"乖"的标准。我有点心疼，但是看到班上其他的小朋友都是这么乖，我们也希望这个方法是可以让他学会规矩。 从此之后每天是什么颜色变成了是最重要的一件事。有一次，我们没有注意到学校打电话来，我回电话的时候发现校长打给了我留着学校资料的每一个联络人，并且还告诉我已经过来半小时了才回电话，要我们立刻去接孩子回家。在上班时间接到学校的电话去接孩子成了我们很大的一个负担。 我儿子三岁半，语言表达能力极强！完全可以和大人做很好的沟通和交流，所以他在学校发生的一切我们都能很清楚的知道。有一天他突然说他的老师常常用"五指山"（我们跟讲过西游记的故事）就是她的五个手指来用力捏他的肩膀，因为老师压着他坐下叫他不要乱动，他说他肩膀的骨头都快要让这老师给捏碎了。如果这些话只是说一次两次我都还没那么信，但他每天在晚上睡觉前都重复这些话，这使我不得不信。 还有一次我提早去学校接他，亲眼看见他正在放声大哭，原因是因为他吃饼干的时候把饼干屑掉到了地上， 老师不高兴就把他还没吃的直接拿走丢了。后来每天早上我送他去上学的时候，他死活不愿意进教室，尤其是老师来抱他的时候，更是大声的哭喊。 这将近两个多月期间我们常常接到学校要求我们接走孩子的电话，幸好我们都是在家工作，还能随时接电话或跑去接小孩，要是夫妻都全职在外工作的请问要怎么办？学校不管发生任何大小事都有可能一个电话要求你把孩子接走，而我也必须放下手上的任何事，马上赶到学校。 学校似乎忘了我们是去付钱学习的。 三岁多的孩子，绝对不会是完美的，我们原本就是送他去学校学规矩和玩耍，而规矩是需要时间慢慢去改变的，是要靠老师和家长一起的努力，不是靠压迫、处罚或是贴上颜色的标签就可以的。动不动就把孩子推给家长，要是这样的话她们办这个特殊教育学校的意义何在？！而我们家长又为何要把什么都会的孩子送去这样的学校呢？？蒙特梭利理应是个有名且专业的幼教学校，可现在我们认为她们缺少最基本的耐心和爱心，这是做教育的大忌！和校长谈这些事的时候，她会用一种非常客气的口气但是非常狠毒的字句告诉你，你需要带小孩去看医生，还会很好心的建议你不要随意的吃医生开的药，一副就是你孩子有问题的态度。 我们建议大家千万别把孩子送到那去受罪，孩子的童年是需要快快乐乐的，而现在我儿子在那上学两个多月就已经有了非常强烈的心理阴影，他说他好害怕去学校，害怕老师！我们告诉他不再去那个学校了，准备给他换一个，我儿子说："别的学校老师也会这样对我吗？我以后都不要去上学，我好害怕！"。 大家见到他们那里的孩子好似每个都非常乖巧，但其实是冷漠！可怜的孩子们不敢嬉笑打闹，没有太大的情绪起伏，因为怕被老师惩罚，他们只敢乖乖听话。刚开始去那学校参观的家长都很惊讶，惊讶那么小的孩子们怎能如此安静听话，以为是老师教的好，但其实一点都不是。学校只收性格内向的或胆小怕事的孩子，因为这样的孩子带着很轻松。但如果你的孩子是聪明、有主见、比较活泼好动的，那老师和校长就会想各种办法逼走你们，做法非常粗鲁直接！ 强烈建议各位家长们：如果你的孩子是比较活泼好动、有主见型的，就千万不要送孩子去这个学校，她们不仅十分的不负责任，而且最重要的是他们对孩子没有爱心和耐心 。 read more

MOW has been an awesome and great school with a fantastic Director, Ms. Laura, and friendly staff Katie, Adrienne and Lauren (Camille back in 2012-2014). My daughter attended MOW when she was 3 yrs old, from 2012 to 2014 (Teachers: Rm #3 Tiffany & Yesenia; Rm #4 Lorena & Julie) . During those years, my daughter blossomed and excelled. MOW prepares these kids so well that before they even start Kindergarten, they have already met or exceeded Kindergarten requirements. The curriculum and the activities they provide for these kids is top notch. The teachers I have mentioned above were the best and my daughter loved them. Currently my son is a student there. The wisest and best choice is MOW, no doubt about it. He started when he was 3 yrs old, 2015 to present (Teachers: Rm #3 Syndi and Margaret; Rm #4 Lorena & Maria). Just like my daughter, he has made a positive and great transition from a shy and timid child to an outgoing one and he is doing really well. I find great relief in knowing that he is well prepared for Kindergarten. He too loves his teachers and they have met or exceeded his needs. The facility and playground is safe and clean. The Director, teachers and all staff members are very professional, knowledgable, kind, warm and caring. The music teacher, Alfa, is another great asset to this school. I have never had any issues and I felt secure in knowing that the well-being of my children are #1. I have referred friends to this school because I know they too will have a great experience. I would take any negative reviews with a grain of salt, if this school was that bad why is there such a long wait list? You have families coming from cities that are 10-20 miles away, wanting their kids to come to MOW. I have seen many happy parents/families. I have to say that as a parent, I am truly grateful and blessed, to have been referred to this school and that my children attended here. I will miss all of them and I am forever grateful to them for being the foundation of my children's education. Please note that these comments are based on observations over the years: There are other Montessori with higher capabilities in the area. If you need a place that will give your child individualized attention and encouragement to grow confident, this is not the place. There is lack of diversity among the students, I think it's because the director cherry picks the students- she pushes out the ones she doesn't like by ignoring issues/concerns. There's no actual curriculum for all ages in the school except for arts, crafts and circle time; not great for math and reading so your child may struggle once they start kindergarten. The teachers are mediocre and there is an additional cost for every service but the execution of the service is subpar. It seems like the teachers do their job but not love their job because they are not personable; they seem underpaid and overworked. There is lack of attention from teachers who need extra encouragement. Good ones obviously leave for better opportunity elsewhere. Some teachers are defensive about feedback or issues, ignoring unique needs for each kid. The lack of professionalism is obvious from Ms. Laura to the teachers. Ms. Laura can be highly unprofessional in setting where feedback is given about the school and doesn't seem to like talking to parents about solutions to problems. read more

If I had to sum this school up in one word it would phenomenal!!!!! My son who is now in second grade attended this school. Because of the exemplary dedication to Teaching good values, and an elevated curriculum my son currently reads at a 4th grade level, and is doing advanced mathematics at his current school. My 4 year old daughter is currently a student at this school as well. It blows my mind at how advanced she is for her age. Site words, ABC's. Number lines, Writing, story telling, and counting to 100 are all skills she has mastered !!! This review is based on our very bad experience with the director, Ms. Laura. The school, the teachers, and learning are great! My daughter enrolled in Mow almost a year, she liked most teachers. She is 4 years old when she enrolled at MOW. The teachers are wonderful,however the director and the front office staff were very prejudiced. Everyday I took my daughter to school and drop off, and usually like to say, Hi & Hello to them before I leave. They have this weird look at me, and when they are in a good mood they said "hello" to you. When she is in a bad mood, she gave you an angry look on her face. Ms. Laura is a very good actor. She had at least 3 different masks wear on her. She can be very nice just by acting, but she also can be very mean like evil stepmother. Ms. Laura, the director, can be very nice at the beginning when you visited the school. Everything she said is fine, but once you got your child enrolled she is a different person. Beginning she said if your daughter fall we have the teacher write a boogle report. My daughter fell twice and no boogle report, and I went to ask her she got upset. Then one time my daughter had a fever and she tried to tell the playground staff that she had a fever, guess what the staff tell her. oh, you are hot, just stay in the shade. I found out until my daughter got home, she looks very different , she felt very hot on her whole body. then i took her temperature and is 103 degree. then we have to rush my daughter to the ER. The next morning I went to school and ask Ms. Laura, how come my daughter had a fever and your school doesn't notify me. Then her response was there were so many kids, the teacher can't just go to every children and find out if they have a fever. That is a horrible answer, to give to the parent. All parents leave their kids to the Mow, because they trust the school, the staffs, especially the director are responsible for their care of their child. This is negligent to the child ! I felt very regret to put my child in an unsafe place. The other experience that we had was the lunch fees, my daughter was on the full lunch schedule at the beginning. until one day we received a notice from a teacher in room 2, she said my daughter doesn't like to eat pizza & spaghetti. So we cut our lunches to only the days she likes to eat . Then I got the bill for a full whole month charged for her lunch. But my daughter did not eat everyday, the day that she doesn't like pizza or spaghetti, I would bring her own lunch. At least first, I did not go complaint, because I know if I go complaint to Ms. Laura, she would not like to hear that. Therefore, I still pay for the full month for the lunch, then one nice teacher in Room 5, said you shouldn't pay for the day your kids did not eat. So I told her, yes I know, but if I tell her they over charged on the lunch, she will go crazy. After 2nd month I still paid full month, then the 3rd month the teacher in Rm 5, said you should addressed that is Mow is over billed me. So one morning I decided to go to Ms. Laura and complained about the over charged bill. My goodness, she was on fired. she said if your daughter don't like it here then we don't her here. Then she screamed so loud and tell me to take my daughter and leave the school. This director, Ms. Laura is very rude and unprofessional. she handles very badly being a director. I felt pityful for the owners don't know how she run their business. I am glad my daughter left the school, I would not have my child to learn this kind of business behaviors from her. I looked at other mom's reviews and I have to point few things out. First, all the fancy classes other reviewers talked about are extra $$. Other Montessori schools offer same program so I don't think the availability of such classes distinguish this school from another Montessori school. ^_^; Second, there is a HUGE gap between parents and the admin communication. I mean, the admin/director simply won't listen or budge on what parents have to say. They are there to treat you like a little kid who is too weak so must be ignored. Is my request to call me back that difficult that you say no, you have to call after 9:30am but before I leave for the day?? (whenever that is). They are set on their ways and they won't allow any flexibility for parents at all. I'm not talking about pick-up time. I'm talking about just their sheer availability just to make a phone call. Sorry Your Highness. I didn't know I pay outrageous tuition to you just so you can ignore me. Forget about trying to discuss to them about your child's well-being!!!! Your kid is a number and s/he better stay that way. Totally anti-montessori! Third, the facility itself is clean because it's new. However, it looks like a PRISON. Just a long hallway with rooms on the side. Speaking of a nut-house. @.@ Also, playground is so cheap. It's just an open space! Not to mention minimal covering from blazing sun! I can't say enough great things about this school. Ms. Laura and all the other teachers are wonderful. There is no high turn around like other schools. Two of my children attended school here and they loved it! The curriculum is very well rounded. They also do small groups during the day so your child gets extra attention for subjects they maybe lacking in. They also had a music teacher come weekly to teach them new songs. You can choose to bring your children lunch (which they will heat for them if requested) or you can order lunch. Lunch is provided by a food service company. I really liked this because it was much less oily and much more healthy than some other preschools that buy their food from restaurants around them. read more
