Staff / Professors are great. The Admin in So So its such a big school much smaller now than 20 years ago but still a big school and some of the administration seem to have a chip on their shoulders about treating everyone like a number. The Worst part is that now after all the other Colleges in the state are lifting their masking regulations Mt SAC teachers union has dug in and is requiring students in classrooms and teachers to remain masked up. So if you can choose a different school choose one of the other local schools that do not require the masking after the Country, State and County has dropped the Mandate. Its absolute comedy you go into any admin building and nobody is wearing a mask but if you want to use the makers space on campus or go to a class you must wear a mask. I attend 4 community colleges and this is the absolute worst offender of the bizarre masking requirements. read more

Pros and Cons list INCOMING: Pros: 1. The BEST teachers and people I have ever met, seriously I cannot say enough about the amazing teachers and students! 2. Beautiful campus this place is always under construction but the buildings they add are top notch. 3. Great Counceling, counselors are great for students with no knowledge or expectations for jr. college. 4. Library, this place is a great safe haven for a good quiet study session, librarians are awesome and will help you with anything you need! 5. ACCESS is wonderful to students with disabilities. 6. Medical staff is very helpful. Cons: 1. Locker rooms are TOXIC, seriously I feel bad for the athletes at this school because I have seen human poop on the floor more than once in these locker rooms, mixed with black mold in the showers. 2. Counselors are very hard to get an appointment with. 3. Student stores are a rip off and don't offer enough healthy choices. 4. Parking is a nightmare. 5. Website crashes constantly usually when people are registering for classes, which is when I need the website to work. read more

Update Feb 2020: This year is super awesome at Mt. Sac. The treatment and services they gave to the student really improves. My registration for spring 2020 is flawless. The persons that assist me in the Admin office and in the Library was so helpful. I attended 2 of the school event this week and it was phenomenal. I feel like Mt. Sac step it up this year. 2019: I don't usually give an update, follow up review and a 3 stars but I will make an exemption today. After all the adjustments and DIY FAFSA application, some of my student benefits had been activated. Also, I starting to really like the people here at the library. Our library resource center really help me a lot in this semester. Some employee are still acting like they own the school and benefits are from their pockets, but I saw some now that are really sincere in helping the students. read more

Students from top colleges would tell me that my teachers had taught just as well if not better than teachers at universities. I did my lower division here and it was great. So many programs and centers to help you succeed in college. No wonder it is one of the best CC in California, I'm glad to have went here. I am a computer science major. Classes are hard for a reason and teachers don't just give out A's here. Do the work and succeed. Financial Aid, tutoring centers, library, teachers were amazing. To start, this schools staff is not helpful in any way. I have paid extra funds on numerous occasions with little to no administrative assistance. The parking situation is TERRIBLE. You have to show up an hour early just to get a parking spot if you don't want to walk a block or two And i have had multiple discourteous and completely impolite professors. I guess I could review the school that I've spent a lot of my time at. Mt. SAC is a good school. Professors are there to help (for the most part), but if you need extra help theres a lot of free tutoring places on campus. And don't be discouraged when you see a classroom full of people trying to add a class. If you really want that class then stick with it, because most Professors will add a few days after class has started and most students usually give up trying to add. A lot of students I know leave Mt. SAC and go to Universities or Cal States. Or they take one of the certificate programs and have successful careers. Parking: Oh god. I have to many words I can describe the parking issue at Mt. SAC, but i don't think it'll be appropriate. lol. Best advice I can give you is to come early! And if its the start of the new semester, bring your walking shoes! But have no fear! The horrible parking usually last until the drop deadline. And after that more spaces will free up. Food: Food on campus is decent. There is a Carls Jr and Starbucks on campus. There are also places across the street that you can get food at such as: Jack In the Box, Burger King, Pho, and Subway. The library is a great place to study because they have tons of tables/chairs and if you want to study with a group, they have rooms you can rent out. They always have tons of computers you can use for research or facebook. lol (or maybe yelp.. haha) Oh yeah.. And you should also note when Cal Poly starts. Because then traffic is going to be crazy! All in all a good school. Just remember to pay your fee's right away or you'll get dropped. And I can't believe people haven't figured this out yet.. DON'T park backwards people. Mt. Sac is a great community college for almost any educational goal you wish to achieve. Most of the people I have met here have plans to transfer to a UC or CSU. Mt. Sac offers a variety of classes that some other colleges do not. I live near Chaffey Community College but I commute to Mt. Sac because Chaffey does not offer the classes I need to take to transfer to UCI as a comp sci major. Join the honors program if you can! Honors classes provide for amazing professors and all the honors classes that I have taken so far (Soc1H, Soc5H, Eng1CH, Spch1AH) have been so fun and engaging. The class is also smaller so the professor can pay more attention to you and your progress! ALWAYS REGISTER AS SOON AS YOUR REGISTRATION DATE AND TIME IS AVAILABLE!! Parking is bad at the beginning of each semester, so come early! Restrooms are hit or miss. Some stalls have automatic flushing systems installed and some don't. The lower level restrooms are usually more dirty and run down than the restrooms on higher levels of the building. I find building 26's third story restroom to be quite pleasant LOL. But the one on the first floor is not that great. Most of the stalls on the building 26 first floor restrooms do not have hooks for bags ); Lots of food around campus. This plaza across the street has MJ cafe, Yoshinoya, this cute little restaurant that has curry, Lollicup, Jack in the Box, and a few others. Just one mile down has a lot of restaurants and stores including CVS, Chik-Fil-A, Mcdonalds, Panda Express, Starbucks (yaaas), TenRen, Pieology, Chipotle, Flame Broiler, Panera Bread, In n Out, and others. If you drive a little bit more out, you hit Rowland Heights and that area, SO MUCH FOOD THERE! I especially love traveling to Tastea, Ichi Ichi, or Boiling Point if I have time in between class or after class. As of right now (Jan 2016) a lot of construction is going on in the H lot and G lot area. Keep that in mind and come early to find parking so you aren't late for class! You can connect your portal email to your primary email! I know that checking the portal email is a pain in the butt, so linking the two accounts will make it way easier for you. read more

This is a big update from the older reviews to let others know that parking is twice as bad due to all the construction and the fact that two full lots are under construction currently so no cars can park in them. Avoid this school at all cost. Student service center is SELF service. Registration for classes is impossible with available software, you need no less than 5 TABs open and running - carefull they time out!!! If you think a councilor will help, your wrong. There are commonly 2 on duty an the line is 20--30 fustraited students back up and in a spiral of circular death. Financial aid singular job is to find 1 error In your paperwork and kiss you off. If you need extra help because you have a child with an IEP? YOUR EXTRA SCREWED. Figure out what week your going to take off work and spoon feed your kid through the registration process, if any classes are left available after all the other "priory " registrations, athletics, band, illegals, etc. Mt. SAC calls its IEP support ACCESS. it's really inaccess because the people in there have keyed answer's on how best to blow you and your kid off. They spend more time running game than it would ever take to help you. read more

Really unfortunate experience at this school with a sociology professor Linda Rillorta. I was five months pregnant when I took her class. It was a test day and because I had my binder on my desk, due to my inability to remove it fast enough (due to my big belly), she grabbed the test and yelled "GET OUT!!!!!!" I cried all the way to the doctor's office due to suddenly, humiliatingly, and violently being kicked out of the class. My son has a severe disability and I can't help, but think it was caused by her violent outburst or by being next to a room with dangerous levels of electromagnetic rays. Nevertheless, I would venture to say that this instructor does not care about child development or children. That is my personal experience relating to Mt. SAC. read more

My main reason for posting about Mt Sac is because of the awful counselor my child had. I don't remember his name but he works with alot of the athletes. He was rude from the very first day she met with him. He is condescending and apparently doesn't know how to do his job. He had my child taking classes that weren't needed and a couple weeks before graduation a different counselor caught a class she needs to transfer to a 4 year. Time & Money wasted taking elective classes not needed and was never told or enrolled in the 1 class that was needed and now my child is having to cram this class into a 6 week intense class. Thankfully my child reached out to another counselor and was much better informed. read more

This review is for the world renown Mt. Sac Track Relays... anybody and ERY'body who has ever ran track knows about the Sac Relays. This is the place that showcases Olympic prospects prior to the Olympics... or at least it had been in it's "hey day" Today I went with Tiffany R. (who I also went to see Janet Jackson with the other night~SHOUT OUT!!) okay parking $5.00 across the street but you can walk through the tunnel to get to the track no big problem. $10.00 for preferred parking (which is on the same side of the street that the track is on) fee to get in $10.00 (we were comped because Little Bit *my daughter* is on the track team) first thing Tiff and I noticed... empty bleachers now Tiffany LOVES track as I do. I used to run and she has always been a spectator for this sport. I have seen the many "greats" run on this track Edwin Moses, Carl Lewis, Eveylyn Ashford etc etc. it is a disheartening sight to see empty bleachers... Yes today was a balmy hot ass over 90 degree day but still these kids are running there heart out and Puma, Nike, Adidas and Reebok are represented at this event. Seeking new talent to endorse their product or run on their teams. My review is of the location the track is still as great as it has always been. They had for purchase snow cones, smoothies *Courtesy of Robek, Kettle Corn and Inn-n-Out Burgers. ATM machine located at the front entrance when you first walk up to the gates. BEWARE!! It's hot and there is no shade unless you bring your own umbrellas or tents. We saw many of these. Also a program cost $3.00. Today they had the fastest Woman and Men competiting and it was AWESOME to behold. I would go again next year to honor those that chose this sport and have a passion for this. MONEY HUNGRY SCHOOL!!!!! Teachers and classes are okay. But the school it's self just cares about giving students tickets and finding ways to make a profit of people trying to get their education. This is my first semester here so I wasn't too sure the parking situation. I've gotten 4 parking tickets in 2 weeks. The first two I didn't have a parking permit so i understand that. I then purchased a parking permit for the semester only to get 2 more parking tickets EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A PARKING PASS. WTF IS THE POINT OF BUYING A PARKING PASS IF YOU WILL STILL GET A TICKET? I then tried to dispute the last two tickets and submitted proof of the date and the purchase of parking permit. I was denied the dispute with no sort of explanation. Another problem I have with these thieves (mt sac staff) is the student health center also taking my money!!! Seriously what is wrong with these people?! I took a TB test (that is mandatory for one of my classes) through the student health center and paid $15 for my results. When I first went to take my test the front desk ladies were soo rude!! I then was brought in the back to get my shot. The person that gave me my shot spoke no other words to me besides "sit here". Like seriously NO OTHER WORDS. I then went back to get my results and was told I cannot have my results back and if i do want them back i have to pay an additional $15. I asked since you won't give my results can i have a refund for the test. They said no refund. So now i will have to pay AGAIN to get these results this is seriously ridiculous. They stole money from me! If you do come here for school please be careful of these thieves trying to take your money!!!! read more

The counselors aren't here to help. They're here to take your money. They won't tell you they offer an academic forgiveness program so they can exclude you from financial aid and you wind up paying $250 per class and just as much for the required text. Also, they won't address the unruly professors because they don't care about students. I'm now looking into Citrus College for a helpful, caring community college. Mt. SAC don't give a crap. This is my first semester and I gave it four stars because it's a good school but there are things that could be better. So far in most of my classes I have a quiz first thing about last class, no bud deal right? Except half the quiz is also about the lecture that day. So you pretty much have to teach yourself the subject before coming to class. Why not just stay virtual at that point? I see why there doing it because the lack of time, but if there's a lack of time would it not make more sense to make all homework and quizzes due by Sunday and just leave the assignments online since I'm doing them online anyway? And make zoom meetings for office hours? Like if your gonna come back after Covid make it worth it. SECOND, they need to take a larger role in responsibility for their Fafsa disbursement. I understand that giving it to a third-party like bank mobile makes complete sense from a administration point of you since there's not enough workers at Mount sac to take care of that venture, however I have been severely disappointed with the bank mobile. The first time I did not get my dispersement until the exact 10 business days and so far I have not received my second dispersement Friday will be 10 days and I have not even gotten a notice it's on the way. for a student like myself that left the workforce at an older age to come back to finish school to get a better foothold in his career something like financial aid makes all the difference when you actually have to pay rent. How am I supposed to get the books pay for gas pay my rent and get food when it takes over 45 days to get a decent dispersement. Not to mention the fact my book has been needed in almost every single class. It will be on the administration to find a better alternative than bank mobile or possibly taking on some of the work themselves. However I think all the teachers are very educated and really care about your success and that there are lots of resources on campus once you get through all the red tape. Honestly, I love my college due to abundance of resources. I think that getting Financial aid requires lots of hoops, getting into programs especially reach is a nightmare, my adoption papers are not enough to prove I was adopted!!! getting into major courses is a nightmare, and forget about having an outside life, take a full load and your better of carrying a truck. But on the flip side, it is a jaw dropping wonderful big open campus with lots of eating options and food that is edible, the Starbucks serves sometimes is lax like one time they nearly gave me the entire bottle of chocolate syrup in my java chip totally ruined the taste. But generally get fast serves. They need to put resources to all of their courses sometimes waiting for a course to be offered is like waiting for the moon to turn vibrant purple, it feels like your screwed when it comes to graduating and accurate point them, I have had 3 credit classes that felt like five, and 3 credits that have felt more like 2. Of course this is just my opinion check it out for your self to see if you see what I see. read more

This is a review for the Native American Field Trip: Came here on a field trip with my students for the Native American tour ! HIGHLY recommended it and enjoyed the tour. The staff is very skilled and organized ! My students and I had an awesome time and we truly enjoyed each stop. Everything we did connected to our state standards and we easily made connections with all that was learned during the year. The timing was also perfect. Worst student service office ever. No matter where I go for what reasons, it could be for financial aid, or for the assessment test, or admissions, everyone there tells you different information that's all false. I've tried calling, and they'll put me on hold for over an hour each time. I was on hold once for two hours and someone picked up just so they could hang up. I go back in person multiple times because of false information, and the new person helping me ALWAYS contradicts what their coworker said. If you ever have to use their student service center, i highly recommend you make sure you know the name of the person that "helped" you. read more

If someone asks for help, don't treat them like an illiterate imbecile. Financial Aid procedures are your specialty, and a layman would not be familiar with the nuances. Parking at this college is so damn terrible. You will spend AT LEAST 15-20 trying to find a spot, unless you're willing to walk 1.5 miles to campus. It's so damn shitty. They won't build a parking structure because elitist Walnut residents 'don't want to ruin their view.' The professors, classes, and amount of resources are spectacular but to be quite honest.. parking is enough to infuriate the most patient of us. If you come late - just stay home. You won't find parking at all. Join Honors, it has helped me so much and opened so many doors. For honors to honor with UCI, if you have a 3.7 GPA, you are guaranteed admission. Lets start with classes: This is the worst thing to do here, which is ironic because its the thing we come to do. Classes are very hard to get into, when you have no priority. You MUST go to the first day of each class and get on wait lists for about a month to get all the units you need to be fulltime. I got on wait lists for about a month before school started and slowly got into each class. Some I had to go to the first class the first day of school, and and got into those also because people just dont go. I got 17 units total my first semester. Thats a lot for first time. You have to be PERSISTENT and get into those full classes. If you are new, be on your mt sac portal every two hours and keep checking and checking for new wait lists. Make sure you are on your portal early the day of and the day after fees are due. A lot of people do not pay on time and get dropped and this is your opportunity to get classes and on wait lists. Even after school starts, it might take two weeks until finally people drop and then you can take a class, dont give up! A lot of people are not persistent enough and dont get into their classes and only take one class for a whole semester. What a waste of time!!! Do everything possible. Next Parking: So this is just a hassle and very annoying. Some tips, WALK. I know most of you dont want to, but for your 30 mins of time you will waste, go to the large parking lots, and start from the BACK and work your way forward. I always find parking in 5 mins doing this. Sometimes I get fed up and park across campus on Temple and always find parking in 5 mins. Dont be lazy, this is college and you can use the exercise. You can also park on campus without a pass for the first two weeks of every regular semester. Library: Medium library that does not do justice to the school. Its too small and very little seating during peak hours. The WIFI is bad!! There is no seating and its like a hunt for a table and chair! Thats not good. The staff here is nice and helpful. Overall: The school is great for a community college. There are a lot of people who want too much from this school, and this is not a university. They complain about little things that have no meaning and when you get to a four year university (which I came from) the professors are not nice and dont give a crap about how you are doing, so take this as your warning and enjoy Mt SAC while you can, because when you get to a four year, you will wish you were back here. read more

Mt. SAC is the only community college in the area that offers the Network Administrator & Security Management A.S. degree. They offer many other degree programs as well. If you're pursuing a Major within the IT field, I definitely recommend joining the CIS club. They partake in many CIS tournaments. In 2013 we took 1st place in a few. If you're a Veteran, they have a Vet center that helps out. Now with the bad. This campus has a huge parking problem. Then again it's one of the most populated community colleges in the state, so arrive early. Also, if you don't have priority registration, enrolling in the classes you want will be a challenge. But don't let this scare you, overall it's a great school. It has a lot to offer. read more

As one of the top community colleges in the area, this really is as good as it gets. There's tons of programs available here and bridge and honor programs for the transfer students. Transfer students used to be priority but beware, with the recession and budget cuts, that is no longer the case. (To transfer from a CC to a CSU or UC.) Granted community college does a lot of hand holding, this school is no exception. If you're fresh out of high school, it should be easy peasy in terms of what they expect from you (go to class, do you homework, study), but if you've been out of the game for a little while (graduated or took a break), it makes it a little hard to have to give up your 'independence'. There's also more 'busy work' or 'drills' to help you learn the material so if you're working full-time as well, it might be a bit much with 12+ units. Most of the teachers here are either 'resident' (been there a while) or 'visiting' (with tenure at Cal State or UC school). The overall quality I've seen is pretty high, as I don't really think that highly of my UC education. You can definitely learn something here if you really commit yourself.. And for life-long too, not just to pass your final. Lastly, parking can be a nightmare (like adding classes if you have a late registration date) but the facilities are up to date and they're even building new ones. (Students don't fret, the budget was approved for these buildings in 2006 before the budget cuts!) The school looks amazing and the labs are all pretty new. The high-tech classrooms outdid the ones at my UC! For a little over $20 a unit.. You really can't complain for what you get. I transferred from here, graduated, then came back to take more classes. I've also attended Santa Monica College and sat in on a Citrus College class.. and I have to say, Mt. SAC is the best hands down. :D read more

Here's a review for Mt. Sac I started here in 2004 and finallllllyyyy finished in 2012 with some great people. Unfortunately, I only got my A.S. in Radiology (which should only take 2 years). My gripe with this college is the fact that there is a LOT of students here, with the faculty limited. Each class can take about 20-30 students, but that is quickly overrun with students trying to take the class during registration days and it's extremely hectic. Parking is worse than having your arm being ripped off of you for 2 weeks straight as you can get either very very lucky with a parking spot...or just NEVER getting one in time for your class and/or adding on to it. Mt. Sac LOVES to build building for more classes, but during my 8 years in here, they never wanted to build a damn parking structure anywhere. This would probably help...I don't know...about everyone that is a student in Mt. Sac to finding a class there, but they rarely ever accomadate to the students needs, except for more classes. I do like this place as I met a lot of good people here. You will find A LOT of the weird ones here, like otakus, wanna-be cool rappers, emos with an attitude for being emo, Yu-gi-oh players, Magic the Gathering players, idiot wanna-be gangster guys that come to school only having one class, and sooooo much more. I could go on with this but you will encounter the good ones (which I did here, and also the really bad ones too). Just take your time with getting the classes you want, and do good here. I gave this place three stars cause of the Radiology Program. This program was amazing to me (and stressful). I had a few problems with a certain hospital during my time as a student there, but the other two hospitals were amazing to me. I loved the staff at both places, and I loved my teachers at Mt. Sac too. Mr. McLaughlin, Mrs. Neel, and Mrs. Engisch were amazing teachers to me and if you do go to the program, you'll love these teachers. I also got close to my fellow classmates, and you'll probably too cause that's how this program works! Loved the program, but the college itself wasn't great. The Skinny: I think it's better than PCC, ELAC and Citrus in terms of care, service, professors and the overall system in place. The Fat: The campus is huge and is very new. The professors are good and if you use ratemyprofessors.com, you're set! The counselors do care and the staff whether they are students or seasoned employees, they really do care and will try to help. The registration process and system is a lot better than PCC. I tried PCC and it was horrendous. TIP 1: If you're in the military, you get priority registration! Speak with the VA Services! TIP 2: If you can audition and join band, choir or any sports team, you get priority registration! TIP 3: Priority registration for the extracurriculars will take place the next semester, not the immediate one. read more

Overall a great school for those who enjoy walking uphill and plants. I enjoy this school because it has some pretty amazing professors. The professors seem to really like their job and the ones I've had from my experience have gone above and beyond to try and raise your grade. They have tutoring services available, speakers, conferences, culture fairs, and tons of fun activities! But....... I wish we had more choices of food at this college. All we have are the student stores, and knock off versions of wing stop, Pizza Hut, and subway. With the exception of Carls Jr. Which has the most odd employees. I used to like Carls until I had it at this school. Whenever I order, the quality is horrid. Soggy fries, soggy burgers, and the employees look like they haven't taken a bath in three weeks. Sometimes, the cashier doesn't even understand my order. They also charge you $1.00 for using debit. -1 star for the parking. The parking makes me want to take a wet shit at the Administration building, right at their door step. How could you possibly charge students such a high price for their parking permits when parking is not guaranteed? Why don't you stop making new buildings to attract more students and start building new parking lots? Students shouldn't be penalized for being late to class. It's the schools fault for not having enough parking spaces available to the amount of students they admit to school. Pretty idiotic for a "better quality" community college. Also, if you're going to bring your laptop to school to do your homework I would just go to a local library. The schools wifi seems to be running on dial-up or something because I, and many others, can barely load a page on our laptops when using this piece of sh*t wifi they offer. Registering for classes mostly based on priority. Athletes get priority. Those in EOPS get priority. High school seniors get priority. People with a 4.0 GPA and above get priority. Honestly, they need to base priority on people's GPA and not the star of their team sport. This isn't high school. Cut the crap Mt. SAC. Half your students use their FAFSA money to get a bag of weed anyways. Nevertheless, I am stoked about the new Jamba Juice stand they have by the English buildings and the "smoking area". This school also has Starbucks but the baristas only know how to make fraps. The customer service at the student store by the biology building makes me cringe; I've never seen such lazy student employees in my life. Most of them look depressed like their parents abandoned them, and others seem to have a cucumber up their ass most of the time. The customer service by the English building has much friendlier student employees. In conclusion, the area surrounding the school is pretty cool. You have a lot of Asian places to eat at. the only reason I'm even giving this place an A-ok is because the professors. The majority I had were excellent and accommodating considering how fast classes fill up. Parking=horrible Counselors=never available!?! Food=overpriced and they only have carl's jr, horrible! and starbucks, bleh! Did I mention $3 minimum for everything?? Construction still going on, less open buildings=LESS CLASSES and when are they going to build a parking garage?? Classes=hard to come by EVEN WITH sophomore status/priority (unless you are an athlete or someone you has 75 units and needs to get the eff outta Mt.
