There are probably a couple different cities that you can enjoy Mount Shasta from but my favorite city is Weed. They have hotels and gift shops and is a cute little town with everything you need. There are two exits for Weed off the highway. One exit is the 'old town' part that is more cute and the other exit is the newer part. I think staying a night here is a perfect thing to do as the scenery is so pleasant. It really is a destination. So often to see natural beauty like this you have to sacrifice comforts of city living. Not with Mount Shasta - its a town that has it all and is just steps away from a little nature walk with an incredible backdrop. It is a real sight to see when you have this regular old Shell Gas station or even Grocery Outlet where the backdrop is the volcano. I don't think you can ever get tired of the harmony here of man made combined with nature.

I went up this past weekend with the attempt to summit Shasta and had a really nice time. The town of Mt. Shasta has a few restaurants and some decent accomodations for sleeping (slept in Loge with our group which was great)... As for the hike, we went up and started at Bunny Flats and camped at Helen Lake for the night and then going for the summit via the Avalanche Gulch route. It was a beautiful and trying hike...definitely be familiar with the risks and have the proper skills to manage them if attempting. All in all; Mount Shasta is majestic and magical. The wedding was hosted across the street at the golf course and my suggestion to the person who organizes both of these venues. I think you should offer golf cart transportation between the resort and the golf course. That would prevent a lot of people from taking the chance and driving that short distance while intoxicated. I noticed this first hand on several of our party goers. We had a beautiful cabin that was not on the lake, but close enough to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. I see a lot of reviews had a problem with cleanliness and honestly, we did walk in to a musty smelling cabin and dead, flying things all in the bathroom, but after doing a black light inspection of the mattress, I was reasonably assured that bedbugs would not be an issue. To me that's a big one. I highly recommend this location if you're planning a wedding at the golf course.

The location has potential, but our stay was highly disappointing…read more First and foremost, the checkout policy requires guests to wash all dishes prior to checking out. This is a major sanitation concern. IF the property thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the kitchenware between stays, this chore is an unnecessary burden on paying guests. If they do not reclean them, then the health and safety of incoming guests relies entirely on the honor system and the cleaning habits of previous occupants. It is incredibly unsettling to think the dishes we used may not have been professionally washed or sanitized. The cabin itself clearly got a "landlord special" French doors were stuck and wouldnt open. Had to call maintenance to get them fixed. The refrigerator and cabinet drawers overlap so tightly that opening the fridge makes the drawers to open, and vice versa. The fridge door is already dented, clearly from this problem. The blinds are old, broken, and don't close all the way. So we had to wake up with the sun every morning, spiderwebs in the ceiling corners throughout the cabin. For the price charged to stay here, guests should at least be guaranteed professional cleanliness. Unfortunately, this property missed the mark on all counts.

We were blown away to learn they use 40 pounds of jalapeños in each batch‼ The brewer clearly knows his craft, capturing the perfect jalapeño aroma without it being overpowering. It's so flavorful and super delicious! The staff were all incredibly friendly and kind, and we truly appreciated how dog-friendly the place was. The pricing is very reasonable too, which probably explains why it's such a local favorite. We'll definitely be coming back!

We make it a point to stay at Mt Shasta Ranch when we drive to the Bay Area from Seattle. Each and every time we have been warmly welcomed with fresh homemade cookies, coffee and tea, as well as wine in the afternoon. They are kind, hardworking people living their dream of offering a top notch bed and breakfast in their lovely home. I especially enjoy sundown on the front veranda with blankets, our beverage of choice, a wonderful view of Mount Shasta and the beautiful countryside. The mansion, built in 1923, is well kept and spotless. There is a large dining room with a billiard table and many windows where one can read and watch finches and other birds at the bird feeders. There's also a cozy living room with a fireplace and a lovely wood fire when it is chilly outside. Each time they have offered our choice of rooms when available and been treated like family. The bedrooms, each one tastefully decorated with antiques, feature comfortable beds and thoughtfully curated amenities. There are two separate lodges for families behind the house itself. I also appreciated seeing a pair of horses in the pasture next door. Kris and David are always happy to recommend local restaurants, hikes and other activities. But most of all the this B&B is a quiet and peaceful respite. I know they also host various groups for retreats. We have especially enjoyed meeting other guests at the Mt Shasta Ranch as well. Lastly, a highlight of our stay is Kris's gourmet breakfasts, delicious and varied, served by David who is charming and accommodating. This place is an absolute gem. We highly recommend it.

I'm from North Carolina, which boasts the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi (Mount Mitchell, 6684 feet). Allegedly, the volcano was last active in 1250 AD. No Yelp then to prove it one way or the other. There is a fabulous vista point not far away on I-5. I'd love to catch it at sunrise but alas, I'm heading south this afternoon and can't stay to get closer to Mount Shasta. Most of the surrounding area is very flat and then all of a sudden your attention is fully grabbed by is presence. An unplanned stop and slight detour isn't a hard decision to make. I pull over and stop. Open the trunk and pull out a little bottle of apple cider I packed for the trip to Seattle. I sip the near burning hot cider and it reminds me of the holidays - the only time I would have such a beverage. Apparently my Black Opel paint made the back trunk into an oven of sorts. I gaze at what appears to be a snow capped mountain volcano. It takes a moment to realize the altitude difference of the top of the mountain and where I'm standing - apparently 14,162 feet. I take a small hike or nature walk. I pick up some rocks that had a huge volume and very little weight. Apparently lava that dried up when it was near the surface and under no pressure. I think most of the time in life some of the most enjoyable moments and events are unplanned. Maybe schedules and windows of time and reservations are overrated.

I spent the past four nights here, and it was very quiet, dark, and peaceful…read more Quiet with the caveat that there was a TON of train noise. But if you like white noise, that might be a plus. This was the darkest campground I've ever camped at so far. The view of the stars was great. The cold was on another level. I wouldn't recommend tent camping unless you really know what you're doing. Theoretically, this campground has free showers, but they are closed for the season. I couldn't help but notice that the windows have been broken into and boarded back up. There was theoretically potable water, but it tasted a little funky. Most of the pumps were broken, which made it seem like maybe the rest are about to be determined to be broken soon. There was an electric outlet in the bathroom with a sign warning not to leave personal items. In site 25, which is reserved for PCT hikers, I found another sign warning that items are frequently stolen from the bathrooms, and to use the outlets hidden in the amphitheater instead. (There is also a Starbucks about fifteen minutes away in Shasta.) A trail behind site 25 leads to the PCT, but the trail was currently full of fallen trees and hazards. Another trail near Vista Point turned out to be a safer route to the PCT. A 2 mile trail leads from the campground to Vista Point, where you can either keep hiking, or take in the panoramic views of Mt. Shasta, Castle Crags, and the Gray Rocks. I chose site 38 to camp in, which was at the end of the line of sites that are currently open. The first two nights, I paid with the self serve envelope. The rest I purchased from the Ranger Station. Camping was only $25/night, half off with qualifying passes. So it only cost me $50 to stay here 4 nights. The spaces on the main road were huge, and very well spaced. There was a camp host on duty on site 20, and maintenance came through every day to clean the restrooms and empty the trash. I didn't see much wildlife except for a lot of birds. Wildflowers were just beginning to bloom on the trails. There isn't much to do near the campground, but I found this to be a great place to have some relative peace and quiet for a few days.

In the summer months they get hit with those passing through on the Pacific Crest Trail and by me when I'm picking up a 6-pack before hitting my favorite beach on Castle Creek (aka mile marker 2). The only downside is the employees seem to really hate their job or maybe they just don't like me, whatever it is, they're not too friendly.

For years I have informed Johann Ulrich that I am on the United States' federal "DO NOT MAIL" list and not to send me unsolicited mail. For years, he has still sent me this mail. His most recent postcard represents six sold properties. The total accrued sales was $358,000. or about $60,000 per sale. This in itself should be a "red flag". If you are searching for property, you should consider that you caused your own fraud if you are injured in the purchase or sale of a property, because, in reading this, you knew that he has serious mental health issues. No rational, reasonable, person would do what he is doing. California law allows $1,500 for each unsolicted mail where the given person is on the "DO NOT MAIL" list. After six notices to him over the course of eight years, he still send them. Is there a substance abuse issue here, as I can find no other basis for him to proceed after all of my warnings to him.
