I got my tragus pierced on February 13, 2019 with Matt and it was the worst piercing experience I've ever had. For context, I've had ear piercings, navel, and tongue and all others were a quick and relatively painless experience with no complications. When I got my tragus, it was a nightmare the entire time. The shop was clean and everyone was nice. The initial piercing went smooth and the pierced went to go thread the jewelry through. They lost the connection between the needle and jewelry and began to dig around in my ear for the hole. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and a high tolerance for mistakes in the workplace. We're all human. But the piercer continued to fiddle until the friend accompanying me said something because I had tears rolling down my face. He decided to re-pierce the hole since he couldn't find it. At this point my ear is pounding and already inflamed, but I was already there so I said go for it. It was super painful. But we got the ring through and left. Vowing never to come back. The tragus didn't heal great. It was very slow and developed a bump at the puncture site. I won't blame this on the piercer, since it could have been a number of things. But the area was very traumatized and I haven't had any issues healing in the past. Overall, I wouldn't recommend anyone to get pierced here and surely won't be back myself. The tragus eventually did heal and it looks good now. The placement was good and the piercer was nice, which is why I gave this experience 2 stars instead of 1. read more

I came here for help with my ear piercings and to get a new cartilage earring with Matt. I am a big baby about pain but Matt was so kind and professional! Matt explained everything he was doing and what was going on with my ear. I felt like my ears were in very safe hands. I had a great experience at MVBA. Of the three tattoo shops I've been to in Baltimore, this one is hands down the best of the three and I'll be sending my friends there. The inside of the shop is a little messier and more cluttered than the Yelp interior pics, but don't let that deter you. I really appreciate how respectful and professional everyone was and how much attention to detail Justine put into my cover-up job. Without much back and forth, she created a design that was pretty much exactly what was in my head. She skillfully incorporated new art into an existing tattoo that I had and I'm super happy with the result. The rest of the staff were helpful and answered several of my calls with questions on aftercare ("AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? IS IT SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THIS??"). I've been working with Clay on a two part series for my biceps. I couldn't be happier with the first piece and really looking forward to the second. I tend to like to move from artist to artist every few pieces just to have a diversity of styles, but I'm impressed enough that I may just end up winding these into whole sleeves done by him. I gave him pretty free license with design and despite my sort of scatter shot of suggestions he really pulled it into something beautiful. The shop is in a shopping center in Mt. Vernon so parking is easy. His hourly rate is really reasonable compared to most places in Baltimore. read more

Just got my ankle tattooed two weeks ago by the lovely and talented Anastasia ! She took about 40 minutes to do a small Hermes shoe on my right ankle which was surprisingly quick considering how it was my first tattoo and I was under the impression it would've taken much longer. She was great in reassuring my concerns and fears on getting my first tattoo. The ambience of the tattoo parlor was really chill and amicable. All the artists Clay and Matt were working on sketches for potential clients and they were both very personable and chatted with me and my boyfriend. I highly recommend stopping by this parlor if youre considering getting a tattoo or piercing. Just got my conch pierced recently by Matt. Quick, easy, and most importantly clean! This shop uses needles, not guns. The piercing is 40 dollars plus the cost of your choice of jewelry. They have a great selection and can special order pieces. I got mine done with a gem cluster piece that was anodized rose gold. It is gorgeous and I keep looking at it in the mirror. I paid $93 for it. But its worth the cost for a piece you plan on having with you for awhile. You get what you paid for. I will come back!! read more

Have gotten two piercings from here, a conch and a forward helix. Very clean and friendly. Easy healing for the most part and felt very reassured throughout the process. Matt shows you how the equipment is sterilized before he pierces you so you know what's about to be used on you is clean. The only reason for 4 stars is that their follow-up service isn't that great. Matt said to email him questions, ideas for another piercing, and if I had any issues with my piercings but then he never got back to me (3 emails). In addition, I asked if I got multiple piercings, could I get a group discount. He said yes but then when I followed up with my future piercings, he didn't remember. Not a big deal because everyone needs to make money but it would've been better to just not offer a deal at the start. Overall, I was pleased though and would recommend to others, just with an added caveat that you shouldn't expect any deals or responses through email (even during Covid). read more

I finally got my nose re-pierced and am so glad I found Matt at MVBA to do it! He was really patient with me. I was crazy indecisive about which stud I wanted and he answered all of my questions. The place is really clean and he explained everything he was doing. He was able to open up my old piercing without going through the process of re-piercing it, saving me healing time and money, which was really unexpected and very cool of him to do. I got a modified industrial piercing by Matt, and had one of the most welcome and pleasant experiences from a tattoo/piercing shop I've ever had. Most places make me feel like I'm not welcome to even go inside, but the second Matt stepped out to get my temp check, he was extremely open and communicative and even when I couldn't get what I wanted, he helped me feel confident about my second choice.
