You must purchase a ticket before you board. All three doors open making for speedy boarding and disembarking of passengers. Keep your receipt after you buy your ticket. Sometimes a MTA Employee will be at a stop checking to see if passengers paid. The fine for not paying is hefty! The buses are new and have been clean when I ride. Passengers are not as crazy as I remember in the past on this route. I like that this bus stops right on my corner. Especially when I have shopping bags. All major intersections have a bus stop along this route. You need to use your Metro Card to buy the fare. Read all the instructions before you attempt to use this service. Much like all NYC Public Transportation there's lots of rules and regulations. I'm still a fan of faster service. If you're going very far, or out when it's 20 degrees wind chill, you should ride! I also enjoyed not having to deal with rats, smelly stations, bums, and annoying school kids on the subway. Over the past few months, however, service on the X63 has precipitously declined. Every morning, the bus breezes from my stop at Merrick and Farmers to the LIE. Once it gets on the LIE, it crawls all the way to Manhattan. Ironically, the "express" bus is slower than the subway. A few days ago, it took 45 minutes to travel from the Queens Blvd entrance of the LIE to 42nd Street and 3rd Avenue. That was the last straw. I'm done with the X63. The negatives outweigh the positives. I don't mind paying extra money for a premium service. I do mind getting to work late. If you have all of the time in the world then I encourage you to ride the X63. If not, then take the subway and local bus combination or LIRR (if you live near a LIRR station).

The 68th Street-Hunter College Station on the Lexington Avenue Local Line (6 at all times and 4 at…read morenight) offers a great perch to watch the trains through the expansive windows at the Mezzanine crossover sitting area! It's easy to use, being ADA compliant, and also has colorful artwork within the station. African American artist Lisa Corinne Davis employs layered representations of maps in these 2024 public art mosaic murals taken from her paintings made of a combination of glass smalti, engraved glass cakes with color infill, and hand-painted glass. Before you enter fare control is "Tempestuous Terrain" and on the Mezzanine, flanking both stairs down the platforms are "Liminal Location." They're all worth checking out when you stop to take a moment to enjoy the trains passing by below!

Not manned, but there are blue light kiosks for emergencies. Everytime I step on the Q, I swear the cleaning team has just stepped out the other door. Every morning it is freshly mopped and I want to be sure they know how appreciative I am and I spoke to others who agreed with me while we sat there. Masks are required, for good reason - too many people in a closed subway car - I wish everyone ALWAYS wore masks on there!!

On Labor Day Monday, I took the Hampton Luxury Liner from Manhattan to Montauk. I thought the bus…read morewas going to be full since it was a holiday. It was empty. Excluding me and the driver, there were about 10 passengers. I had two seats to myself. And speaking of seats, they were very comfortable. There was decent legroom (I'm 6'1"). Initially, I couldn't find the outlet. I eventually discovered that it' was hidden under the seat. And unlike the Hampton Jitney, the bus wasn't covered with a tacky looking wrapping. The bus left Manhattan at 1 PM. It was scheduled to arrive at Montauk at 4:15 PM. It arrived at 3:28. And with that said, the ride was far from perfect. The bus was as bumpy as a school bus. It was pure torture. The driver seemed like he didn't want to be bothered. He wasn't mean, just apathetic. Other than checking in people and announcing the stops in a soft voice, he said nothing. I paid $34 which is reasonable. The Luxury Liner doesn't run nearly as frequently as the Jitney or LIRR Montauk branch. Furthermore, you don't get the VIP treatment like on the Hampton Ambassador. If you're looking for a no frills experience and you don't care about comfort then the Luxury Liner is ideal.

These images employ those photorealism to pixelated techniques he used in his paintings. You may recognize the iconic faces he captured of Philip Glass, Lou Reed, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker, Alex Katz, Pozsi B. Color, Cecily Brown, his own self-portrait in the center of the mezzanine, plus others. Worth a stop if you want to admire some of the great public art created to make everyone's subway ride more enjoyable. Oh, and this 86th St. 2nd Ave. subway station is also easy to get in and out of too!

If you're getting on in age and/or have mobility limitations, the 86th Street 2nd Avenue stop is a game changer. We recently moved to the neighborhood. The first time I got off at the station I couldn't believe our good luck. Train tracks are way below street level -- I've never seen such a subterranean line -- but a series of steep escalators take you all the way to the top. (I think of the Queens Plaza station where I'm inevitably huffing and puffing with all the steps.) The station is clean. The graphics on the wall are beautiful. (Sorry, no photos. Look at someone else's review.) As it's the second stop going south, you'll likely get a seat. And the officers I've spoken to who monitor the turnstiles are actually friendly! BTW, if you're senior, remember to apply for half-priced fare. (There are some advantages of old age!)
