Not the best views or layout, they could use more benches, more signs and more machines. But glad it's there. If you need to get to the area, it beats driving!

Your standard train station which I believe maybe the only real station in Los Angeles. It's houses both the metros and Amtrak. Everything pretty much does its stop or layover here before continuing on to their next destination. The front of the station is quite nice with its nice massive entrance. Inside you have your usual seating with comfy train style cushion seats for waiting. Beside that, there's a few food station which is a major help while you're waiting. Depending on where you're heading, if it's the metro there's tracks for them. If you're continuing on up north or down south then that's the train station which tends to be upstairs. Plenty of staff on hand if you need help with anything. Also I've noticed loads of security which is also a big thing. If you're taking the Amtrak, do get there early as they tend to be stationed so people can get onboard. But there's days when the trains are late. It's a pretty big station with loads of connections. A nice concept if you don't want to drive or fly. The station does have all the connecting trains that will take you to downtown, Santa Monica, Long Beach, North Hollywood, Pasadena and so on. It's also just down the street from downtown LA, Chinatown and Little Tokyo.

Parking is affordable, but can get fisted and it's nice that they have the free Dodger Express Shuttle. But the restrooms are abysmal, especially for the women's restroom and the men's isn't any cleaner (according to friends' first hand accounts) and there's always litter somewhere and the subtle scent of human waste, but that's the DTLA experience if anything. That's why when I was told we were going to go to Union Station for dinner (when I was in Denver), I was aghast. Completely different expectations and execution. Union Station does its job, could always be a bit better, it's just that society needs to get to that point and we need to be a bit less of a car driven (haha) ecosystem where public transit is more friendlier and easier to use.

The descend down is a few twist, turns and flights (of stairs)... As well as the journey up naturally. The elevator sometimes is down as are the escalators, but rarely at the same time and usually not for too long. You'll see LA Metro workers about more commonly here as this is a high foot traffic stop if you need any assistance. That cool down breeze coming up from the platform can be intense, but very welcome on warm weather days - hold onto your hats, caps and accessories. They have several kiosk for purchasing Metro Tap cards as well as reloading if you prefer a physical card, but you can also access and reload in the Metro Tap App which also lets you know when the next trains are arriving North West towards North Hollywood or East bound toward Hollywood /Vine Station and beyond. It's large and spacious compared to some other stations - very Hollywood and grand! Q Tip: There isn't parking for this metro location, but there is at North Hollywood as well as Universal Station.

Last stop, first hop…read more Downtown Santa Monica Station is part to the L.A. Metro Goldline, renamed the E Line, but we still call it the Goldline... because this is the L.A. way. The station is easy, clean and fun, not a huge fan of the TAP to EXIT they implemented during my most recent trip and have a some stations. People have jobs, events, deadlines, situations and places they'd like to get through without the added stress. I'm all for helping with safety and reducing crime but there needs to be a much smoother system. If someone needs to transfer not only do they have to wait behind anyone ahead of them for each individual exit, they also have to remember to pull out their phone or card again. What happens if someone can't load the app, losses power or losses their physical card during that time they're riding... I enjoy taking the Gold down to Santa Monica and do think this is one of the better stations in Greater Los Angeles. They just have to implement better measures. You can ride Metro rail Downtown Santa Monica Station on Colorado Avenue between 4th & 5th. No parking for metro, but lots of local garages close by if traveling or community from Santa Monica.

I took the expo line from downtown to Santa Monica on the last day of my trip. It was easy to…read moreunderstand and it took less than an hour to go from downtown to S.M. The station does pass by a couple of landmarks like Olympic stadium, shrine auditorium, and one of the collages. The scenery to and from is not bad either, I always like looking out the window and notice these things. I did see some homeless people on the train but that pretty normal in this town. I did not experience any overcrowdedness or anybody talking loudly on their phones. When I arrived at the last stop I noticed two metro police at the entrance so that felt good knowing they were visible and ready to help if needed. i did ask them for directions to the airport taking public transportation and they were helpful on that topic. The pier is literally just down and street and you can see it from the station. There is a ramp available for those with wheelchairs, scooters or in my case suitcases haha. On the way to the pier, there are some restaurants including a McDonalds (it is super crowded due to the tourist getting food). There is a super pretty mural across the street from the station (look at my picture for info). Also pro tip; if you are needing to travel to LAX from this location, go to the mural and a little further down there is a bus stop. Wait there for a bus that says 'aviation LAX'. This bus will take you to the airport in about 40 minutes and only cost $1.70 without a tap card. Still cheaper than doing flyaway for $8 or a private shuttle that starts at $25. If you are thrifty like me choose the bus.

There is a Throne bathroom that was recently installed so you can use the restroom. There is also a large parking lot so you can pay for cheap parking and then ride the metro to your desired destination. They also recently added those gate entrances to tap out to ensure that everyone had paid for the metro and didn't just jump the turnstiles. Overall a good station that I used frequently. Maybe not as frequently as Universal City since I live directly in between the two but a good one nonetheless.

Presumably hearing the complaints of the public asking for a safer transit experience so that more people in our city are likely to make use of public transport, Metro has decided to add in a frankly absurd number of "metro security" whose job it is to harass the general public. I was sitting on a bench downstairs in the station (having already tapped in and paid!) waiting for my friends to arrive so we could ride together. My friends were delayed due to traffic and I was approached by one of these "security" (and I do mean to use the term loosely) who told me that I was being kicked out of the station as I had been sitting there for 15 minutes without getting onto a train. I explained that I was waiting for my friends and that they would be arriving in the next 15 minutes but were delayed and this "security" employee outright told me he did not care and that I was kicked out. When I obviously came back 10 minutes later with said friends, I pointed him directly out to my friends and all of a sudden this "security" ducked his head and tried to hide. Seeing as how this is how they treat me, I can only imagine how awful they must be to others they view as beneath them. Truly an insane experience that I have never ever had before for all my years of riding.

You can connect with the Metro Blue (A) and Expo Line (E) lines on the upper platform or the Red (B) and Purple (D) on the lower platforms not to mention the Silver (J) line above ground. There are tap stands and gates at every entrance and exit, even between switch and when you tap between trains it simple "Transfers" and doesn't reduce your fare at all. I think I had three transfers from near Studio City to NoHo to this station to the Blue line the other day... Was kind of cool! Definitely enjoy going green and riding metro when I can. I did here a rumor that the new K (Pink) Line might extend over to here as well at some point which would be pretty great. It's often busy here and the Expo and Blue are constantly running. The Red and Purple lines don't run as frequently as the others and as the day goes on, but it's about a 10 minute wait usually until after 5 PM where things shift and by night maybe every 15 to 30 minutes. I believe eventually Metro and this station will get back to later hours again and eventually run all night. Great Metro staff and the most you'll see at any station other than Union station. You can catch trains and/or exit from through The Bloc shopping center or across the street on the corner of 7th & Flower St.

We had to use the Metro because parking at Exposition Park was sold out per information on an email. Tim knew that the 7th Street Station in Downtown LA would get us to the concert. We parked around 6th and Flower in a metered street parking. It's free after 10pm. Uhg. It's better than parking in a paid lot. We got Tap Cards at a kiosk, entered the station, hopped on the Metro, and got to Exposition Park in no time! Note: it's not the cleanest nor the safest. We just walked quickly and maintained awareness of our surroundings.
