I really like to go here for their butter steak. Food is all very tasty and brunch on a Sunday is always good. The service is on spot. This is a great place to visit with friends coming into town and you want to take them somewhere nice to eat, with a great atmosphere. I went there this past Sunday for brunch with a friend. I will say that I enjoyed the Embrace the Buzz drink and their potatoes, but that was about it. I ordered the cup of gumbo as an appetizer, which was delivered to the table after my entree. I was a fan of the gumbo. Just seemed as an overpowering of spices and not in a good way. As an entree I ordered the chicken fried steak. It came out surprisingly quick after ordering. It was dry and tough. You could tell that to meat itself had been cooked prior and was sitting under a heat lamp before it was battered and flash friend. My friend ordered the Bloody Mary and did not even drink half of it. He made a face with every sip he took. It was a shame. The atmosphere of location is nice. The manager was absolutely charming however bacon wrapped shrimp were pretty under cooked, wedge salad made me laughed because I guess I did ask for a wedge right. Leave it to suburban Texas to muck up a simple po-boy. Quick comment for the chef... I get that you can't get good bread here, so I gotta give you a pass on the that. Nobody has decent bread in Austin. But the concept that 4 jumbo shrimp is better than 16 or 20 small shrimp that you get at Parkway, or Liussa's By The Track, or Parenton's in Metairie, or any decent sandwich shop across the state line is silly. You can't bite through a jumbo shrimp, the whole piece comes out. So the next three bites are soggy bread dripping with way too much remoulade and aoili. This is all on me, when I want cajun, I want what I'm familiar with. This is some nuevo Texas take on Cajun food. They admit it, so I suppose it's my fault for expecting something else. The menu was clever and had a really nice variety of items not too large to overwhelm ones appetite. The cocktail drinks were created or named with wit and humor, but the tastes were actually quite a treat in of itself (10/10). Saving the best for last, I could list on and on the delectable spread of food my entire family (13 of us) had ordered and pretty much everyone shared what each of us had gotten. To start with, Tony (my husband) had the Blue Crab Claws sautéed with Cajun butter, lemon, and white wine sauté was to die for, not to mention the garlic bread that dipped so perfectly well in unison that gave a very delicious and pleasant awakening of our pallet (10/10). Aunt Judy had her share of the sourdough and seafood bruschetta that was oozing with delightful blend of hummus, shrimp, crawfish, Gouda and Feta that was indescribable (10/10). The Brussels sprouts were unmistakably the best we've ever had (10/10). The Butter Boy (filet mignon) smothered with the obvious, was a great blend of delicious spices that awakened all the taste buds in my mouth (10/10) The most impressive of all our ordered main courses was none other than THE Chop (20/10) - no, not a typo, it was just that good! An extra thick (monster) cut pork chop with a generous center pocket that housed very flavorful chunks of meat in the middle. The menu description did not do justice to the concoction that our pallet was about to experience, cubed and smoked ham. YES!!!, meat stuffed inside of meat! Wait a minute, the waiter who's name escapes me, very jolly, quite knowledgeable, wonderful recommendations, very attentive, knew where each plate went, who gave us an experience the likes which I have not experienced in a long time. My very favorite restaurant. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, it's all delicious. But someone at the table needs to get meatloaf. Seriously. It's incredible! Staff is awesome, specialty drinks like The Coping Mechanism (gin martini with elderflower and rosemary) and the Smoldering Longbranch (smoked old fashioned) are amazing. Food is flavorful and fun! It's a bit pricey for the portions you get but it's still with enjoying the great ambience of the restaurant itself. I made a reservation and when I got there I asked for a booth (which a few were available) since it was 4 of us. The hostess completely disregarded it, made us wait and ultimately was trying to sit us on a regular one and when I asked again she gave me a terrible attitude. It says online that the place is open from 10-3 and it doesn't specify that they're not doing the whole menu or that they're open till later so we couldn't even order what we wanted. The server was not timely and we were waiting with empty drinks for a while and food took a while too. When I asked something they were telling me about prizes which was not what I asked at all, and prize was never an issue. The food was mediocre at best this time. Food was good, I felt like they were trying to be a little fancier then they are but I think anyone would be really surprised by the flavors and variety. I've never had it before any where but I'm glad I did here!! It's served on a bed of mushroom risotto with seasonal veggie. Drinks a great and they have large ice cubes for my bourbon drinker!! We've shared the brussel sprouts yum!!, the crab cake yummy!!, the shrimps drool and raw oysters not my thing but they were enjoyed by our table. It's Cajun but not spicy hot!! To make matters worse (for him), he had a trainee beside him. I lectured him about his blatant disrespect, told him that I'm disabled and immune compromised and he still didn't react. I closed my menu and we left, but not before having a word with the Manager who also didn't give a shit. COVID-19 just appears to not exist at this place. PERIOD. Don't take any of your elderly family to this place. The servers will scoff at the idea of wearing a mask, which is the most tiny inconvenience a server could possibly make for their patrons. Our waitress, Zoe, was very good. She was attentive and was great to have her as our waitress. She offered great suggestions for food and drink. The food: It was so-so, the chef was bit heavy handed with the salt on some of the dishes. I had the big sexy pasta, it was filling, but a little on the salty side tho. I also had the sourdough and seafood bruschetta, in which the sauce on it was unusual. Again, the salt level was a bit high. There were 6 of us at our table and out of 6 dishes, 2 were good. I cannot properly express what a great experience we had last Saturday. The ambiance is great, the staff is friendly, and the menu is just enough without overwhelming you! We began with the calamari frites (I *personally* don't usually eat calamari but it was delicious, which makes my applauding of it even more of a testament, I hope.), the farfalle & crab florentine (*my* favorite starter), and N.O.B.S. New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. For our entrees we enjoyed the coffee braised short rib - which is just as good as it sounds like it is- and one of the 'daily dozen' limited dishes which was a delicious salmon & polenta dish. In many cases Yelp has become antithetical of what it should be. Due to what--idiots with shitty palates? I can't figure it. Were I perusing for restaurants on Yelp, I'd certainly skip this place due to all the one-star reviews. And that's unfortunate, because Mudbugs is our favorite place in the greater Austin area, and we're as particular as hell about food. All the fish dishes are excellent, and the sauces are packed with flavor, true to Cajun expectation. Pork chop is awesome--really everything on the menu shines. Erin the waitress is excellent--personable, fun, and knowledgeable of the menu. Really everything you want in a restaurant, and a place to bring out of town guests. We frequent this location for lunch/dinner often so we chose to use them for our goodbye brunch the day after our wedding. Leah was absolutely wonderful to work and coordinate the brunch with! She was very helpful and quick to respond with any questions I had. David was our server on the day of & he did such an impressive job juggling 32 of us!
