Mama Ninfa Laurenzo. If you don't know who that is let me explain. Her restaurant Ninfa's started the fajita craze in Houston. Eventually, expanding into basically copy cat restaurants. Lupe Tortilla is one of those restaurants. I'm not saying it's a bad thing as one of my personal favorites (Pappacito's) holds this same designation. Over the years I been to Lupe but haven't been overly impressed. A few happy hours; some lunches. It's pricey Tex-Mex. Lupe opened a new outlet recently in Kyle and instead of waiting for tires in a lobby we ride shared just down the road for lunch. New digs are nice; competition in this area will be stiff. It already killed off Austin fave Z' Tejas. I've never gotten the complimentary beans served with the chips and salsa. I personally don't need any more beans than what's served with my entree. Wife liked it though; she's a bean whore. Bloody Mary ordered; it's like an appetizer! Her taco salad was artfully presented. I'd still want the traditional fried tortilla bowl. I opted for the beef fajita and shrimp fajitas. This is where my favorite mentioned about easily stands above Lupe Tortilla. Well done meat versus beautiful medium rare goodness. Beef fajita meat doesn't have to be well done y'all. I literally could tag nearly every Tex-Mex restaurant in Texas at this point. Back to the dish this time concentrating on the seafood aspect. The shrimp were nicely cooked but red pepper butter? Fave copycat restaurant serves their shrimp with the most amazing frothy garlic butter. Diablo and the bacon wrapped version. Lupe isn't bad but there are better options. For this visit, including my dessert of a tequila shot. May not be my favorite but it was upscale fare. read more

From Chicago, in Austin for the week. First night we stopped by Lupe, based on a recommendation. -The place was packed on a Friday night. Service was good and very friendly. Very pleasant ambiance. -They brought out chips and salsa. The chips looked and tasted like they just came out of a bag : ) -We ordered fajitas to share. Overall, pretty bland. Not a ton of taste. I did enjoy the green pepper! -If this is what they call "Tex-mex," I'm not really impressed. I cannot recommend. read more

The restaurant options have exploded in the Buda-Kyle area and I'm here for it. I grew up here and I remember when one of our only options was the old Dairy Queen Down in Kyle or the Burger King inside the truck stop. We popped into Lupe Tortilla for our dad's birthday dinner. Celebrations for us are often bittersweet as we are all in our first year of grief after losing my mom. This restaurant choice was intentional as it didn't hold any memories from the past. Yes, I'm that girl who openly discusses grief while she tells you to check out a Mexican restaurant. This is the unspoken 6th phase of grief. We had a party of ten, and were given an hour wait time. It was a Thursday night and we had arrived at 7. It was very busy. The parking lot was a mess, it feels like the space where people are driving on is super narrow. We watched several vehicles having to Austin power their way out of there. We for there after hours for the brake shop and parked over in their lot. Inside was nice, they had bar tops you can wait at. Because of the long wait it would have been nice to have been offered water. I have visited the Lupe tortilla in westlake and they have brought over chips and bean salsa while we waited for a much smaller window of time. There was not much communication from the staff about our wait, zero updates, and when I went over to ask after the hour mark they felt dismissive and said they were working on it. Weird vibes. We finally got seated around the 1.5 hr wait mark. We all put our orders in and when the food started coming out I was told that my order had somehow not been put in. My family was almost done eating by the time I got my two Barbacoa tacos. Which brings me to the menu, these are listed in the menu groiped wirh several other plates and it says they are served with rice and beans. When I ordered it and asked for refried beans I was told it's the only plate that does not come with sides...and that it would be an additional charge. Seems a bit misleading to be directly under the verbiage that it in fact does come with rice and beans. This is not on the server- the restaurant can either honor their menu or change it. The homemade tortillas were fantastic. My husband enjoyed his enchiladas. Overall not the *best* Mexican restaurant experience but we will be back. We went to Lupe tortilla Sunday. They have a lot of options on their brunch menu or you can order the full menu. My friend got the breakfast nachos, which had scrambled eggs and all the breakfast you can think of on a nacho. I had the spicy crispy chicken tacos. our waitress Indigo was very good. She checked in often and made sure we got all of our food. The restaurant is really cute and seems like it would be a good place for large groups. The bar area is also very beautiful. The queso was pretty yummy but the crispy tacos we're just kind of Ordinary. I expected a little bit more overall. It was a good value and a pleasant experience. read more

Used to to the original in Houston when I was there for business. Always loved the food and never had an issue with the quality of the service or the food. When they opened this location my wife and I were excited because we love the fajitas. When we have dined in at the location the service is good but could improve. Now if you order To-go you will have the worse experience.....I have never seen a restaurant fail so spectacularly at what is the simple service. - you arrive to get your order. No one is at the to go order station - you are squeezed between the bar and the exit to the kitchen. - when you finally get help you are told it is goi g to be out in 5 min. - you will wait for at lease 30 min after your first interaction - the kitchen manager is unprofessional and rude. So save yourself the trouble. If you want good food and are willing to wait then go inside and get the service they are capable of. If you do order to go I hope you have a better experience. 2 stars because the food is the only good part about the experience. read more

We went the second day they were open for the soft opening. It was invitation only. Knowing it was a soft opening we expected some hiccups and we did have some. Honestly, I've had worse hiccups at established restaurants. Jolie was our waitress and while she was very nervous, she was so sweet and trying so hard. Dylan, the manager, was attentive and fantastic. The restaurant itself is so fun and bright and we enjoyed the environment. Obviously it was spotless being just opened, but the staff was working very hard to uphold their standards. The food was fantastic. My enchiladas were everything I wanted. The price is a little rough but they were great portions so I ended up taking half home. The green chile queso was delicious and my friends quesadilla was massive so she also took half home. Since it is on the pricier end it won't be an all the time place, but I loved the food so can't wait to go back. Fantastic experience. read more

10/10 for the food. Don't come here for fast service, the food is made to order. We enjoyed our drinks along with the chips, salsa and beens brought to the table while we waited for our dinner. My dinner date had the vegetarian puffy tacos, he loved them. Crispy puffy shells. I had the tamale with a regular taco, best tamale I've ever had. A thin layer of masa with a good amount of shredded beef. Of course I couldn't eat everything but tasted my enchiladas before I packed them up to go. Again the beef is outstanding. we've been twice and both times Nancy is rude, Matt who I spoke with over the phone had awful phone manners. our waiter was so rushed at one point my parent asked for salsa and was told "there's salsa over here" with our group of 11 and another family asked for butter and the waiter asked someone at our table if they were going to use their butter and gave it to the one requesting butter lol. It was so loud. took FOREVER to get our bill and waiter was just talking with like 6 other servers. The second time we came in we approached the host stand and Nancy was there again and didn't even say a word just looked at us until I said a table for two please. Again our food took so long BUT the bartenders were fabolous and that's where we ended up staying to eat our meal. We won't be back. read more

What a great addition to a Kyle. It is a soft opening week, so you can eat with reservation. It looks great, decor is great. Food was great, service was friendly no issues even their first week - Austin did a great job. Fajita Trio was good. 1.5 pound of mixed meeat of shrimp, chicken and beef was $73.95It comes with a-lot of side dishes. Legit tortillas. Genuinely great addition to Buda Kyle area. Shout out to both of the managers for caring about your guests experience and our server tiger was amazing and took great care of us. The food was fresh and delicious. However, Nancy (the host) is very rude and unprofessional. She quoted a large party for a graduation dinner 30-40 minutes which is fine even though we called ahead and were told to arrive between 2:30pm-3:00pm and got there at 2:25pm. It was so bad that after an hour + of waiting we had to finally seat ourselves and she told my family member "if you wanna sit at a dirty table that's fine" when the table just needed to be wiped down for 30 minutes. She made no effort to help her coworker buss the table or at least notify management so they could help the busser so she could seat us within the timeframe she quoted. Nancy decided having an attitude was better than doing her job and if not for Nancy this would be a 5 star review! read more

The Chipotle short ribs are delicious!!! The large is technically extra large. This place is great, I love the vibe and they are several delicious food options to choose from. Lupe is having a soft opening, invitation only. I didn't know this but when we can in they seated us anyway. There was a mix up with another tables order and they gave us some free queso! The waiter, Tiger, he was so kind and humored my kids when they said he looked like a famous person. There was an error with our order and the manager came out to talk to us and sent my boys a brownie with ice cream after dinner!! The entire staff was great! We were seated and luckily the man seating us took our drink appetizer and food orders before we even saw the waitress, Jossy, once the food arrived we needed sour cream and an extra plate which we asked for in the beginning and it took 20 minutes to see the waitress again to get the extras, and at that point the fajitas were cold. The manager came and warmed the meat and got new tortillas, which was nice but it's ridiculous that the waitress was nowhere to be seen the whole time. The people at the other tables in her section were also missing everything that they ordered, drinks and food, and they were all sat before us. Went there for lunch about a month ago, and the service was good, the wait staff was attentive and friendly. However, when the appetizer arrived, queso flameado, we were a little disappointed with the flavor and the chorizo in the flameado. We ate it all of course, it's hard to let food go to waste. The main course for me was the beef and chicken fajitas, and I was again disappointed with the flavor of the meats, and the beans had a sort of an off-putting flavor, so I did not finish the meal. I went to Lupe last Sunday and food was eh. My order was incorrect which was no big deal. I ordered the taco salad and they gave me everything but the stuff listed under the salad. What gave this place zero stars was one of the workers using the bathroom with their gloves on, not washing their hands, and returning to work with the same gloves. They were cleaning counters after which would be counterproductive. We called the manager over and told him and he brushed it off. Won't be visiting again. read more

Went there Thursday night- got food poisoning from The shrimp or beans. I ordered mixed fajitas (chicken, beef, shrimp). Within 20 min I was already feeling sick. The oil smelled like burned lard. I was going to take my food home until the smell of the oil was unbearable, and I felt nauseous. I spent the worst night and all day Friday throwing up, fever and body aches. Don't recommend. When I asked the waiter to remove the food he said "I understand " . Won't be back to this place . As a Lupe Tortilla LOVER I am writing this review to express a pattern of horrible performance at this location. The second time we came here we brought friends and found the speed of service for drinks and food to be wildly slow and the food came out cold... But this latest experience has been one for the books... my mom drove into town from south Texas to see her grand-baby here in this part of the state, on the way in she stopped to grab 1 lb of fajitas and was told to expect a 20 minute wait. 45 minutes later we're being told it will be another 20-30 minutes. We only have this day to see grand-baby and grandma together and this team has cost us now a huge portion of what we were going to be spending together and put everyone into a sour mood. I was really disappointed with my recent online order from Lupe Tortilla. Several items were missing from the bag, and the food we did receive didn't look or taste anything like what was advertised online. Portions were off and the quality just wasn't there. What made the situation even worse was the response from the manager. When we called to let him know what happened, he dismissed the issue and said he would call back at a "more convenient time for him," which felt unprofessional and frustrating. Where to even start? My family and I went to Lupe's for lunch on Sunday. We arrived at 1pm and were seated at 1:15. So far, so good. Then, it took an hour to get our food. Not cool, but we were hanging in there. Daughter got chicken strips - she's very happy with them. Son got a steak - he was very happy with that. Husband got nachos. He expected ground beef, but turned out to be pork so he wasn't thrilled about it. I ordered enchiladas from the vegetarian menu. First, they brought me shrimp enchiladas, but they realized it was the wrong item and took it back. Half an hour later family is finishing up and they bring me the right enchiladas but with beans that have a bunch of pieces of pork in them. I send those back. I ask for vegetarian puffy tacos to go. At this point, we have been at the restaurant for TWO hours. I pay the bill and take my tacos home, to find it's two soggy tacos with just a bunch of lettuce & tomatoes. (Missing the avocado and sour cream). Probably not going back. Beyond the fact that my order was wrong three times, it took two hours from the time we arrived until the time we left, and most of it was just waiting for food or the check.
