What followed felt cold, dismissive, and driven entirely by money. A few weeks after her death, they reached out pretending to "check in." Two days later, they contacted me again--this time asking me to leave a Google review because they were "trying to get their reviews up." They also reached out to other members of my family with the same request. Think about that for a second. A grieving family, and their focus is marketing. It gets worse. I also found that they posted a video of my sister in her casket on their page after we explicitly told them not to. That is beyond unprofessional. It is a complete violation of trust and basic human respect. There is no justification for that decision. Also, on the day of the burial which occurred at the same location, when we returned immediately to collect flowers, we were met with rudeness and told to "go get everything" because they had already moved it to a garage. No empathy. No patience. No understanding of what a family is going through in that moment. This place does not treat people like human beings. It treats them like transactions. I wouldn't trust them with any more of my loved ones. By the way, they're still texting my other sister asking for Google reviews .....

Located in a hilly area that overlooks Ypsi's downtown, it is a peaceful, park like setting with rolling hills, and is just spectacular in the fall. After the nighttime lantern tour, we decided to come back during the day to see the place a little better. We could not have picked a more gorgeous day to see the fall colors against the blue sky, and we were able to see many of the thoughtful and beautiful monuments that were left to family members and loved ones as we meandered through the walkways. Rich with local history (which we learned about on the lantern tour, and could appreciate even more so in the daytime), we saw others enjoying the setting as well, as more than a few power walkers passed us on our afternoon stroll. Whether you visit for the nighttime tour, or just want to take a closer glimpse at an Ypsi local gem, Highland Cemetery is a place that you just might add to your list of local favorites as well!

There weren't any maps or coordinates to her grave site that were readily available, so I called the office. Though I would be arriving after the office closed, the staff printed up thorough maps and information to help guide me to her resting place. I got three maps from them and a list of the family members from her family who were buried there. What could have been like searching for a needle in a haystack was an absolute breeze, thanks to their help. They left the information in a little envelope taped to the door with my name on it. So easy to work with. I also want to add that the grounds are just beautiful. You can tell that this peaceful place has quite the history. If I had more time there, I would definitely have taken a nice walk through the grounds. Such a lovely and calming place.

First, they sent ONE young man to collect my mom. (I couldn't even watch how he, all alone, was going to move her from her bed to his cart. After picking this business and setting it up with hospice+, I was informed that I would have to go to the Farmington Hills area to pick up my mom's cremains, NOT the city I live in, not the place I called, and not close to home. :/ Then they told me to fill out the emailed paperwork before Monday only to never get the paperwork. Yes, I checked the spam folders and called back to double check they had my email address correct, but I still never got the email. Even picking up the ashes was more stressful than it needed to be. When I pulled into the parking lot as per Google, my emotions were raw, but I realized there was no door on the east side of the building. So, rather than try to turn around in a parking lot and go back to Grand River, I thought I'd go around the back and use the alley. Nope. A big, white van was parked diagonally blocking the passage. With slight adjustments, the van could still have been on an angle, but let other cars pass. Thinking it might have been a loading or unloading, I waited. Nothing happened for a long time. I decided to park on the east side and walk around to the west side rather than try to turn around. While I waited, I wondered if the driver just didn't realize that the park job cut off the passage though? So, I left a note. It simply said, "This parking doesn't let other cars pass. :/ ) I thought it might have been someone like the young kid who picked up my mom and just didn't think about how he had parked? Then, I get to the door on the west side and it is locked. I walked to the front, and it says to use the door on the West side that was locked. It is during business hours. ?? I see a sign telling me to call, but the last thing I want to do is to talk to anyone right now, and I'm thinking that the owner must have had an emergency and closed the business? I am just considering that my 40-minute drive might need to be made again, when a woman opens the door and states that the building always locked - even during business hours. Her tone was admonishing as if I should have known they kept their doors locked. I was not told that. Sigh...more stress. I sit down to receive my mom's ashes when the owner strides toward me, swings his arm up and then slaps the note on the desk in front of me as he LOUDLY announces that he "Owns the alley and can block it whenever he wants!!" Um..okay. Can an owner make it harder for patrons and block parts of their own parking lot? Sure. Could both of us have taken a different route? Sure. Could he have explained that it took longer than expected to do something? Could he have said, I'm sorry for your mom's passing and I'm sorry the alley was blocked when you tried to get through? Sure. Could he have let it go? Sure. It just made a VERY depressing and very stressful day WAY more stressful than it needed to be. Maybe he was having a bad day. (I know I was.) Bottom line was, this place was cheap, but the empathy about the moment was not there. If you have another choice, I HIGHLY rec. you take it. Oh, and as I left about 5 minutes later, the van had been moved to allow people to pass through the alley.

I know that the ceremony at the cemetery will be just as nice. All of the employees were so kind, caring and helpful at all times. No matter how many times I called to ask questions they always had answers. I would highly recommend this funeral home to anyone who wants to have the best quality funeral or cremation for their loved one. Sadly my Mother died in a matter of weeks of becoming ill with Covid-19. Once my Mother's death was near I reached out to David Griffin to see what type of arrangements were being held at this strange time, since everything was shut down. David was so comforting to talk with and understanding of our situation (which also included my parents pre-arranging & paying for their funeral ahead of time at a different firm). David assured me he would make every accommodation he could to honor what was done with the other firm. About a week later my mother passed peacefully in her sleep. We called Griffin Funeral Home early in the morning to make arrangements to bring my mother into their care. The person who answered the phone was extremely pleasant and transferred us to Larry Griffin. Larry assured us Mom would be brought into their care within an hour. We made arrangements with Mary Bartlett over the phone later in the day and scheduled a time to come in and finalize things on Monday. Mary was exceedingly kind, compassionate and helpful during our meeting. We scheduled the Funeral for Friday Morning with my mother being buried after. My Mother looked beautiful. The Funeral Home was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The Staff all kind and comforting. Larry Griffin handled our service on Friday and was very personable and professional, David Griffin made a special trip to come by and greet us, Mary Bartlett did an amazing job coordinating the service and details and Barbara in the office helped answer mine and my father's many questions. Everything was handled perfectly and is much appreciated. I could not think of anything more they could have done! Thank You just seems to little for all you did.
