This isn't Grand Central Terminal, but it's got a ticket machine and some shelters, which are all pretty clean. Trains come by towards Baltimore and towards Washington every hour, and every 20 minutes or so during peak times. Great spot for railfanning due to the view of trains coming up the grade from the south as well as trains rounding the curve up north. Amtrak services fly past at 125 MPH (You can only get on MARC trains here).

I did have some challenges with getting out of the parking lot after returning to car. It is a bit confusing on how to get out due to poor signage in my opinion but ultimately figuring it out. All in All it is very easy to get into DC on the train however, after events it can be super crowded. I would recommend added a Tap option for an easy way to pay to get on the train. The metro is always so clean and I find it usually runs on time. There is usually only one station attendant here, and there is a bathroom but they need to unlock it for you. The station also connects to Marc on the lower level. It currently only runs Green line, but is set to alternate green and yellow in December 2025. I wish they'd expand the green line farther north to Laurel, Jessup, or Dorsey station.

The Amtrak waiting area in New Carrollton can only be described as dilapidated and shabby. From the…read morerusted chairs, peeling and broken flooring,, rundown bathroom and food counter, and poor customer service I'm usually arriving right before boarding or leaving immediately upon arrival so I haven't had to sit in the waiting area in some time. Unfortunately this time I had to wait for my Uber and I can't believe with the high fare costs Amtrak has let this location deteriorate to this degree. Every single row of chairs had cushions in poor condition and were completely rusted. The brick floor is crumbling with broken pieces of brick tile strewn about. The food counter looks dingy and old with several broken pieces of wood veneer leaned up or lying on the floor. The bathroom is what initially made me really take a closer look at the station as a whole. The 'men's' restroom is available for customer use...had it not been an emergency I'd have waited until I reached home. I asked the Amtrak agent at the counter if a restroom was available and she told me it was for customers only. I told her I had just gotten off the train from NYC and she requested to see my ticket. I scrolled through my emails to find the ticket and held my phone up against the window. She was beyond rude in her tone and affect towards me. 'Make it bigger I can't see. Bigger, now scroll over' she finally got up to buzz me into the bathroom, which took a few tries, but I was finally able to open the door. No one should have to use a bathroom in this condition. The state of the restroom is what horror films are made of. If you think this is hyperbole or an over exaggeration just look at the photos (taken earlier this morning) and see if you agree. With all the money customers are paying to use Amtrak it's beyond disrespect that any waiting room is in this condition. I didn't think anything could be worse than Port Authority in NY, but this takes the cake

Cons: the main parking lot is usually full by 7:30am, but there is an overflow lot a very short walk away. Hint: buy your ticket from the kiosk. I had to walk the "walkway bridge" to get to the station. The elevator was out of service. There was only 1 escalator that went up. So, if you are disabled, you can't get down into the station from the walkway. This place needs a SERIOUS OVERHAUL. Demolish it and start over!! Just like with all of the new build that surrounds this place, and hides how absolute disgusting it is! Seats to wait at, are old. Floors are dirty. Bathroom was ATROCIOUS! Hand dryers are made for little kids, and you will have to bend down low just to use. There was no soap to even use. Only 1 bathroom sink worked. There was about 1 foot left on the toilet paper roll on the stall that I used. Amtrak signs to signify departures/arrival information is up so high, that you can't even see the board fully if you're in the waiting area Also non of the "automated doors" worked. NONE. Cant imagine what this is like for those disabled, in wheelchairs etc. There is still a little cafe inside, and vending machines. Keep in mind that there are two parking lots for this station, on the Northbound and Southbound sides of the tracks. Both are fairly small, but if you get there early enough you will be fine. I have noticed that more people park on the street on the north bound side...,my assumption is because it is in a residential area. Things to note: there is no place to buy tickets here, so go somewhere else. My ticket was checked as I was walking on the train. I'm not used to this. In departing the train from DC you must do it from the last three cars. Also, this train seems to run a wee bit late in the mornings....so adjust. Have at it!
