Over the last few months, I have researched a variety of care/living options for my uncle,…read moreincluding at-home care and senior community living. I was immediately impressed when I researched Springfield Place in Petaluma, CA. The staff went out of their way to answer questions and to provide any help needed before, during, and after the decision-making process of whether or not this was the right location for my uncle. Once he decided that this was where he wanted to be, the staff helped in every way possible to get him moved in and set up in his new home, including personally going to Kaiser's medical offices when we were having trouble getting some of the required forms signed by the doctor. Without their help to navigate Kaiser's medical system, I think we would still be waiting on those forms long after I had to return home on the East Coast. The staff had excellent covid protocols in place that made me feel like my uncle would be as safe as possible. They had a great set of documents to help me organize what was needed to move him in quickly and efficiently. Their facilities staff was helpful in hanging a few pictures that I couldn't manage. The front desk had a welcome sign up for my uncle during his entire first week there. The other residents made a point to come introduce themselves and to say hello. There was a notable mix of residents who were at various stages of care and mobility, and they were often out in the common areas talking and socializing with each other. There was a guest room that I was able to use for a couple of days to help make the transition a bit easier. The food was surprisingly good, and I'm rather picky. I was expecting cafeteria level food and was delighted to find that the food was restaurant quality....and better than a few restaurants that I went to during my stay. They have a variety of rooms layouts available, all at different costs. We went with a large studio with a large den, and we used the den as a bedroom. This apartment that we chose doesn't have a window in the bedroom/den, but it does have two large French doors that open into the living space making it feel bigger and brighter. We were able to fit a lot more furniture and "stuff" than I had imagined due to the extra closets by the bathroom. I know a lot of people are concerned about the costs of senior care facilities, but at Springfield Place we got the apartment, the assistance of the facilities team, the nursing staff, laundry assistance for towels and sheets, the front desk staff, three meals per day, heating, electricity, and community activities all within the price of the monthly payment. When you add all of that up and then add on top of it the fact that you know that your loved one is not alone and that there is someone always around to make sure they are okay.... the price seems more than reasonable. The price does increase a little depending upon the level of care that your loved one needs, but even that seems reasonable, especially after seeing how well the staff cares for those who need additional levels of care. All in all, I am very happy with the experience and am really glad that we found Springfield Place. Plus, as my uncle says "It's close to the golf course!"

Most recently, we made a special request for a couples care MCP who could bring dementia expertise for my mother with Alzheimer's, along with mobility and orthopedic experience to support my father, a wheelchair user who lost the use of one hand due to a stroke. Before this new MCP's start day, my mother suddenly fell and broke her hip, requiring a 12-week recovery that began with three weeks in a San Rafael skilled nursing facility (SNF). Our Tender Rose MCP quickly built a connection with my mother while attending her daily PT and OT sessions at the SNF and successfully advocated for her to receive more attentive care there. Our Tender Rose Care Manager met in person with the SNF physician team, while also supporting our MCP in preparing the home for my mother's return. Before discovering Tender Rose, our family often felt overwhelmed. It is clear that Tender Rose has spent years building thoughtful processes and systems that allow staff to listen and respond quickly to client needs by phone, text, email, or software app. Tender Rose's efforts have allowed both of my disabled parents to continue aging in place in the home they love, with a daily quality of life that remains enjoyable and dignified. There is no other agency I know of that I can recommend as highly as Tender Rose.

It is not an affectation to call their staff "Memory Care Professionals" instead of simple caregivers. Not to insult people who are simple caregivers -- sorry -- so many who do this task are true heroes -- but Tender Rose's MCPs have the extra training and personalities to deal with dementia. For various reasons it has been difficult to staff up my uncle's case but the staffing managers are on it constantly. Special thanks to Claudia, a skilled and experienced case manager compassionate towards both my uncle and us family members. Also Rashima and Emma. I really appreciate the platform, Podio, where I can read reports about every shift.

MANY TIMES, when it WAS filled out, it would say things like: made lunch, changed litter box, wiped down kitchen countertop. That's it? A 3 hr shift and this is all you did??? Just didn't feel we got our money's worth on most shifts. There were a few times the caregiver would show up 10-20 minutes late. One time, the caregiver went home 45 min. early because the patient told her to leave. Caregiver did not follow procedure and call the office from patient's house. Just left and called her manager once she was gone. Patient needed to be sure his wound was cleaned each day while the caregiver supervised on how to have him do it himself. It needed to be done daily and there were a few times the caregiver did not have the patient clean his wound - which was VERY important (and one reason WHY we hired help). When one of the patients was being discharged from a rehabilitation center via the caregiver, the discharge papers with prescription information never made it home (these were important papers!). Overall, would NEVER recommend this agency!

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the caregivers is their constant dedication to their clients. I remember during the fires last year watching the caregivers make sure their clients were safe even at the risk of their own safety in some cases. Watching the caregivers and the clients they care for is really a beautiful thing, it goes way past an employee getting paid to do a job, its more of a friend ship that evolves with the caregivers extending themselves to their clients and caring for them, sometimes until the very end. Having to bring a stranger into your loved ones home because they need care can be hard, but Sequoia helps you each step of the way, from your first meeting with a Care Manager to eventually placing the correct and well trained caregiver in the home to meet your loved ones exact needs. When it comes to the Management team at Sequoia ~ it all starts with the owner operators. Stan and Gabriella lead our team with honestly, determination and the utmost care and concern for their clients and caregivers alike, and it shows with happy clients and employees alike. I highly recommend Sequoia Senior Solutions if you are needing a care giver for your self or a loved one ~ they will exceed your expectations.
