Everything could improve. I grew up with access to good Chinese food. I'm in my late 70's. I can honestly say, this place was probably the WORST Chinese food I've ever eaten. We ate in and was served with all plastic utensils and styrofoam. No soup spoons. We had to ask for a knife and was given a flexible terrible plastic knife. Had to eat soup with plastic tea spoons. It went downhill from there. Worst egg ("cabbage only") roll and wonton soup which had a weird color. The moo-goo gai pan was missing some decent vegetables. The decor was very bad for a place that supposedly allows you to also eat in. The men's bathroom was horrible. Bad fluorescent was flashing on and off which could trigger someone who has epilepsy. No paper towels. Stay as far away from this place as you can! read more

New to the area, was in the mood for some Chinese food, reviews looked pretty good... Placed an online order for General Tso's chicken combination with fried rice and an egg roll. Went to go pick it up, there was one couple at a table and we got there a few minutes early so we had to wait. When the woman who had helped us took over some additional food to the couple at the table, one of the diners asked if they had received brown rice, that they had ordered fried rice. The employee confirmed that they had been given the fried rice. The diner commented that it didn't look like fried rice and didn't taste very good. Employees response? "Well, a lot of people like it" and walked away. We laughed, it was a funny interaction with no apparent effort made to remedy the situation, the employee was pretty clearly talking and laughing about it with the guy who was in the kitchen. I've worked in retail jobs and don't hold the laughing part against them... there are customers who like to complain, or situations where a little laughter can ease the tension, but I did think it was a little awkward that there was no apparent effort made to make the customer happy or better understand their complaint. Anyway, we got our to-go food, got home, and sure enough... I can totally see where the complaining customer was coming from. The rice looked like plain brown rice, and didn't taste particularly good. Karma for laughing at the diner in the restaurant? Perhaps. The chicken was pretty good, as was the egg roll. If the menu had said something about it being "healthy" fried rice or something like that, maybe it wouldn't have been as bad, but when you're expecting greasy and flavorful fried rice and get this, it does leave you unsatisfied. For the price I guess it's alright, as long as you know going in what you're going to get. Too many other options in the area for me to think about going back though. read more

Beware this restaurant. This was my first time trying this place out and disappointed. I pointed and ordered the number 34 and my husband ordered A.9. The girl that took our order never handed us the check, so I went up to pay for the food. She said it was $30.81. I proceeded to pay but I thought it was a little more than expected. I looked over the menu because the amount wasn't adding up. I asked her about the price and she said that the #34 wasn't on their menu and that there was only one size which was the #313. She then proceeded to print out the check after I paid. I told her that I didn't order that number and she said sorry they forgot to mark it out on their menu. I asked her why she didn't tell me about they " no longer go off of that number" and she said "im sorry, I was just busy". The plate I was charged was almost $5 more than what I actually ordered. I think they purposely up charge people because they didn't hand any of the other tables their check. We will not be back. read more

I can't say enough about this place!!! We moved from Florida up here, we were used to having a Chinese restaurant on most corners. We found this place shortly after we moved to Newton and never tried another place.. no need to after the wonderful service and freshly made food. We have now moved to Taylorsville and still make the drive to Mulan because we know we will have the best every time.. The people are amazing and remember us and our kids every time we are there, that says a lot about how they feel about their customers.. if you haven't tried them, please do, you will be happy you did.. read more

My friend and I ordered delivery from here tonight and when we got our food our chicken was still cold and pink in the middle. I tried to explain this to the lady that answered the phone and she kept pretty much telling me I was a liar and wouldn't do anything to make it right. I tried to tell her I have pictures and that I could bring it in to show her and she kept just saying it's not possible what so ever that out chicken was undercooked. Friday evening, we had the worst tasting food I have ever tasted. I ordered from this restaurant because it was rated well and the place we normally order from was closed. --The dumplings were overcooked past the point of being crispy--they were hard and tough. --Anything that had shrimp in it (which was most of the order), tasted and smelled exceptionally fishy, to the point we were concerned that we shouldn't eat it. --The boneless spare ribs were gristly and there were many pieces that were entirely just cooked, squishy fat. --Additionally, nothing tasted the way it should typically taste. This might be something expected when ordering from a new restaurant, but coupled with the list above, we just could not eat it. I've never had such awful food before. I spent so much money on this order and I'm so disappointed. I spoke with GrubHub and they refunded the meal for everything with shrimp in it and the dumplings but we still paid over $45 for the rest of the meal. I should have asked for about 90% of the meal to take into acct the egg rolls and beef entree my husband ate. It didn't occur to me as I have NEVER, not once, called them (or any restaurant) about bad food. I always leave good reviews. I did make sure my driver got her generous tip (as we are in Bethlehem and it was a bit of a drive) and I made certain she wasn't financially impacted in any way. Food - Excellent, Setting - Modest, Very clean. We formerly lived in the San Francisco area, and this food would also be called excellent in Chinatown. The "hands on" owner is friendly, attentive, and "very sweet". We ate in, and the servings were plentiful with enough to take home for second servings. All things considered after checking local restaurants on the internet, we wanted a spring day out and drove 50 minutes to get to the Mulan, and the meal we had made our day - the trip was well worth it. Great little spot that we just stumbled upon. We had a variety of dishes for the three of us; garlic chicken, sesame chicken, soup and fried wontons. Overall the food was really good and plentiful. This is a no frills restaurant and everything is served in styrofoam with plastic utensils so don't think you're getting PF Chang's decor or ambiance. Liked that they're a small family, locally-owned, establishment with really good food. Also the free Chinese dumplings (cinnamon/sugar) at the end was a nice touch too. We will definitely be back.
