Dropped in here for lunch and it was a great choice. With plenty of options on the menu, I had no trouble finding something delicious to eat. I went with the steak hibachi and it was excellent. I chose to dine in the restaurant and enjoyed sitting at the bar at the window where I could watch the world go by while I ate. I came at lunch time on a weekday and it was not busy. There are a handful of tables to eat inside. Looks like alot of customers ordered to go. The only place I know of that serves stuffed chicken wings. I ordered intestines for appetizers and a sample platter. I wanted to try something different and it did not diappoint my taste buds. SE asian in Hickory. One of the best I've tried in NC state. They infused a lot of flavors from all over. Their Kapong noodles gave me nostalgic feeling of Malaysian laksa, tomyam, and prawn mee. Noodles a bit too soft though. Papaya Tray: though thai influenced, the salad is closer to a Malay rojak to me. The pork is definitely one of the better roast pork on this side of the state. I was driving from Morganton to Hickory and stumbled upon this little hole in the wall. The people inside were very nice and helpful. I have been wanting some good pho so when they said that that's one of the dishes they were known for, I immediately ordered. Everything came out very quickly and hot and fresh. The broth tasted delicious packed full of noodles and meat. I got a medium meatball and the bowl was huge. I did get a Thai tea Boba, but the Boba balls were hard and chewy. It looks like every Asian small restaurant I ever see on those Food Network shows: Not much to look at, but huge flavors. As it should be. When we were there, they were out of a few things I really wanted: Thai Tea and roast pork. I opted for a mangolata (I believe it was called). The mango part was delicious, but the red lata part was not for me. I took a few sips and was done. I felt like the red part was tomato-based. Just not a good combo. My daughter got purple taro bubble tea which was quite delicious. My daughter got the pad Thai, which was flavorful, especially when we doctored it with some of the spices and sauces on the table. I got the Duck platter which came with Peking duck and sticky purple rice. The rice had no flavor at all, but when we added soy sauce and ate it with the duck, it was fine. The duck was incredible. It was my first time having the roast duck and it won't be my last. We also ordered eggrolls, which they forgot and we had to wait on for quite a while. Was driving back home from a week in the mountains and stumbled on Duck N Good and it was good! I have never seen a Hmong place outside of the Midwest and we were quiet excited to stop by. It's very nondescript and in an industrial part of town but don't let that deter you. The dishes were excellent and the weird to us drink was also super tasty. I was so excited to hear about this place. I am a great fan of Peking Duck but unfortunately the duck here was mediocre. The ladies who worked there were very nice. The restaurant looked closed when I arrived to pick up my order. It turns out that the seating area was closed because of the pandemic and they choose to leave the lights out there. Not a good decision. I also ordered the papaya salad. They asked me how many Chillies I wanted and based upon previous Yelps I requested mild. It was an interesting salad but way too hot and I like things on the spicy side but woes me. They have a very short menu. Duck N Good is a hidden gem in the heart of Longview. The quality of the food is on par with most of the top restaurants in the area. The prices can be considered on the higher end but its​ quality that you're paying for. You can't complain about that. The portions are also huge! You can split a combo between two people. My favorite items from there are the crispy pork belly and stuffed chicken wings. I look forward to trying more items on the menu in the near future. This was an amazing find! Laotian food in NC? I'd never had it but we gave it a shot. Just the name alone was enough reason to stop in. Order at the counter and they bring it out, definitely ran by a multigenerational family. We tried the stuffed wings which we found an interesting concept but successfully produced, they were delicious. Now for the food; very good! Pad Thai and Teriyaki Chicken were our choices of entrees. We ordered 2 orders of garden spring rolls...they are huge. We could easily have just got one order. This is a true hole in the wall. If you want authentic Hmong or Thai food, this is place to be. I had to order a 1/4 peeking duck, after seeing them displayed. This place really used to be good when they were open. Nowadays, it seems like they're not interested in being in business. The last time we tried to go we tried calling ahead and placing our order to no avail. No problem, maybe the phones aren't working. We made the drive to Longview and pulled up to the doors to find that they were closed for three days straight due to a large catering order. Okay...fair enough, I guess. Today we decided we'd have better luck. We tried the phone again, no answer. Strange, but okay. It's a Sunday and the business hours online say they're open until 8PM. Awesome. We got there at 6:05PM. Initially, we were worried because the sign on the door says they close at 7PM. Earlier than we saw on Google, but still within our arrival time. Imagine our surprise when both doors were locked despite tons of cars in the parking lot and the owner coming up front to tell us they were closed! Wow. We went to our favorite Chinese place instead, Oriental Express, and patronized a business that doesn't mind work and respects their customers enough to keep to established business hours.
