I see the periodontist here, Dr Clark, and I have found him to be patient, informative and thorough in going over my treatment options, making a plan with me and making it fit my needs. He's worked closely with my orthodontist (Sanborn in Morehead City -- I'm an adult in braces) and made sure my orthodontist, my dentist (at Riccobene Goldsboro) and he as my periodontist were on the same page with my treatment. His assistant is also very knowledgeable, extremely nice and helpful in making sure I understand all the instructions and what my responsibilities are as far as self care and financials. The front desk staff is always cheerful and happy to help schedule appointments, or reschedule appointments, and make sure everything is set with insurance. Most dentist offices are completely closed on Fridays, so it's great to have a practice that is able to see you at all on a Friday because that is pretty rare. They're open from 8am-2pm Friday and open Saturday from 8am-2pm as well! (8am-5pm Monday through Thursday.) I don't know how anyone can complain about that. I'm a patient who used to literally lay in the dentist's chair and cry during a cleaning because my phobia was so bad. They have been kind, caring, gentle and patient. I never feel like I'm just a number they have to get in and then hurry out the door. I feel seen and heard and treated like a human being they actually care about. I drive a little over two hours each way to the Riccobene offices because I receive superior care there. I wouldn't make a 4 and a half hour trip to be ignored or treated badly. I highly recommend any of the staff here.

I arrived fifteen minutes early and they didn't bring me in until fifteen minutes past my appointment time. The assistant started setting me up for X-rays and I told herI didn't want X-rays and was just here for a cleaning. She called the doctor in who explained they won't do a cleaning without X-rays and an exam. Okay, so I agreed. After all that was done they were trying to schedule my next appointment. I asked what about getting my teeth cleaned??? She replied "we ran out of time". I was livid, so I questioned if I make a new appointment to get my teeth cleaned I have to go through this whole process all over again?? Upon checking out they tried to make my cleaning appointment. I told them I would call. Then to beat all, if you pay by credit card they upcharge you. They magically found a free hygienist and cleaned my teeth. I think they care more about profit than the patient so it's time to find a new dentist.

They added on since my disabled son has Medicaid as a insurance they will stop taking that insurance in the future as a added reason to to terminate him. I called in early September to make an appointment for my 3 kids and they were solidly booked for 4 weeks so the earliest we could get in was the end of the month. My husband and have our first appts in the end of November so I may update the review, then, if needed. (Yes, for new adult patients they are booked out for 90 days.) We were told to text when we arrived and wait in our car. We had arrived 5 minutes early and received a text to come in just a few minutes after the hour. The hygienists were so patient and friendly, they made all 3 of my children feel very comfortable! Dr Helmer came in at the end and was very thorough in explaining everything he was doing and giving me any feedback and tips as well as things to expect with their age and dental changes. Let me start by saying that I suffer from severe dental PTSD. I needed a root canal on an upper…read moremolar, and was referred by my regular dentist to see Dr. Cottle at Clayton Endodontics. Dr. Cottle took the time to explain everything very thoroughly, answer any and all questions that I had, and really put my dental stress at ease. But, more importantly, when I had the root canal done, I can honestly say that it was the least stressful procedure that I've had done at a dental office in over 40 years. The instruments that he used were extremely quiet, he didn't rush through anything or make me feel like I was keeping him from his next patient, and I just felt like he had some of the gentlest hands while he was doing all of the work. I literally started dozing off a couple of times in the chair, and that was with no nitrous. Although no dental experience that I've ever had has been enjoyable, this one was easily the least unpleasant. Oh, and even though they don't take dental insurance, they filled out the reimbursement forms for my insurer and submitted them for me while I was there. Recommend highly!!
