No one wants to have a root canal. But when that tooth pain just won't go away Dr. Bills is just…read morethe person you want to see. I had been a patient of hers several years ago and this is why I came back. I called on a Tuesday morning because my tooth pain was getting worse and worse. My regular dentist (who I should but won't name) kinda shrugged if off. He sent me on my way with a tube of Sensodyne. I was in luck that there was a cancellation and I went to Dr Bills office right away. It's a super convenient Cary location. All of her staff is super warm and caring. She even has a therapy dog on staff !!! She numbed me up really well and the procedure was painless. She and her assistant chat the entire time so that really keeps your mind off of what is going on in your mouth. I would so HIGHLY recommend Dr Bills and her staff. A root canal isn't really that bad.

I have spent the past month of my life in hell. It all started with a filling 2 months ago. That…read morefilling caused me such extreme cold sensitivity that it made me tear up drinking iced tea. Ice cream? Forget about it. The dentist said it was normal, it would go away. Fine, I would wait. Then I was waking up in the middle of the night with the worst pain I have ever experienced in that side of my face. Both the top and the bottom of my mouth. Dentist said I was grinding my teeth. Gave me a night guard. Night guard didn't work, dentist said I probably had a sinus infection because looking at the x-rays, my teeth were perfectly healthy. (I'm glad they looked healthy, they felt like they were about to explode but thanks for that.) I went to the doctor. Not a sinus infection. Dentist referred me to a TMJ specialist. Instead I looked on the internet and found Dr. Bills. Dr. Bills and her staff started off on the right foot by TALKING to me. Asking what was going on, explaining things that the dentist didn't bother explaining to me. Then she tapped on my teeth and sprayed water on them. The whole problem with my mouth? One tooth. The tooth that was filled 2 months prior. It would need a root canal. They didn't have any openings for 2 weeks, but since I was in pain for over a month, they made one. I don't like dentists. I especially don't like the idea of a root canal. I had never had one, I was scared to death. I told Dr. Bills that I would prefer to be put under. She disagreed, telling me it wasn't as bad as I thought and that it would cost extra and instead she could give me Valium for free (even though she thought I didn't even need that.) So I reluctantly agreed. She's the expert, right? So my parents took me in that day since I couldn't drive myself on the Valium. I was relaxed. High as a kite, really. I am not kidding ONE BIT when I say that I have had TEETH CLEANING that were more painful than Dr. Bills' ROOT CANAL. Just the tiniest prick from the needle (and really, it was the least painful needle prick I've ever felt) was the only thing I ever felt. I think I might have ever gone to sleep during part of the procedure. And thanks to the valium, I slept for 4 hours, woke up with the numbing effect worn off. The procedure was at 6:45 am, and I have not had any pain killers since. Around lunch time I ate ice cream. I nearly cried. Not in pain, though. Quite the opposite. Dr. Bills is the real deal, y'all.

I recently had a root canal done by Dr. Alessandra Ritter. (I learned about her when my wife was…read morereferred to her by my wife's own endodontist for a particular delicate and unusual problem. Dr. Ritter literally is the endodontist whom other endodontists think of when it comes to problems they find daunting.) I've had probably 7 root canals over the last 50 years - twice I had to have them redone, mostly due to endodontists overlooking small branch canals in my teeth - an out-of-the-ordinary multiplicity of canals - leaving some nerve tissue untreated in that one such small branch canal to later develop into an abscess.Rather than wait for problems to develop, I went directly to Dr. Ritter to avoid the problems in the first place. Dr. Ritter has the newest in diagnostic equipment and the best in treatment technology and technique. Her staff is well-trained and more than competent, and alert to patient concerns: They listen and engage. The office itself is well-appointed, artfully (but not ostentatiously) designed, modern yet traditional, and of obviously quality materials and workmanship. The ambiance reflects the solid competence and fundamental artistry of the people working there. In my recent visit to her office (the first was several years ago for a root canal on another tooth), she shows great confidence in her practice, arriving quickly (but not hurriedly) at well-considered solution to an unexpected issue - with me, some significant decay hidden from X-ray by the old, old crown on that particular tooth. She removed the decay, rebuilt the tooth, and performed the root canal. In a week or so, my regular dentist will fit it for a new crown. The procedure was done with alacrity but not speed. Dr. Ritter is in-network to some dental insurers, and works out-of-network for a moderate premium Some people have complained that her pricing is on the high end. Perhaps that is due to her use of some of the newest technology, technology not accepted by insurance companies (CT scan, laser treatments, for example.). So, perhaps the final charges may be more than at some other endodontist. I can only say that, "You get what you pay for." Root canals involved delicately articulated dental structures, and the more complete and detailed the view is of those structures, the better able the dentist will be to deal with problems. That's a pretty simple concept. (I think it's worth the added expense.) My few bad experiences with other endodontists were due entirely to their not having a clear picture of what was going on with my teeth. The subsequent cost of redoing faulty root canals (two separate occasions on two separate teeth), plus treatment by an oral surgeon for one of them - that cost more than covered any premium I would have paid Dr Ritter in the first place, several times over. My rating for Dr. Ritter here is unsurprisingly 5/5. If I could, I'd giver her a 6 out of 5, maybe a 7 out of 5. I wouldn't dream of having someone else perform the delicate operations needed for my teeth. PS I'm 76 years old. As we age, dental issues become more prevalent, complicated by the wear-and-tear of many decades of use and the lost vitality bone mass. In my opinion, the need for more specialized treatment becomes greater simply because I'm older - that is, I'm old - now.

Dr Ritter and her staff is simply amazing. Their care is exceptional in so many ways.read more
