My family just got back from a week long stay at Casa Kenwal and WOW I don't even know where to…read morebegin! It was perfect! Casa Kenwal is located in Puerto Morelos, which is about a 30 minute drive south of the Cancun airport. The house itself is located a half mile from the town square of Puerto Morelos. There is no shortage of tourist shops and great restaurants! The property is managed by Walter who was such a gracious host. I was not in charge of the booking, but from what I heard everything was very easy to do. Walter is originally from the US, so there were no communication issues. He and his wife greeted us upon arrival and checked in with us several times throughout our stay. They live on the 3rd floor/back of the 2nd floor of the property. The house has a private pool, small private beachfront and is located directly in front of the ocean! There are 5 bedrooms, 7 baths and it was very spacious for our group of 6 adults and two small children (3 and 18 months). They even purchased a pack and play specifically for our group to accommodate the 18m y/o for sleeping. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the dishes and cookware you could need. We made all of our breakfasts and lunches there and went to 5-6 different restaurants for our dinners, all walking distance. Walter did some initial shopping for us to stock up on kitchen staples. There are a few small grocery/convenience stores that are walking distance. We did take one taxi trip to a larger grocery store to get a few additional items. Hands down the best part is the beautiful outside space. The pool was a perfect size for several adults and the 3 y/o to be in at one time. We spent hours lounging by and floating in the pool. The small private beach/sand area is sectioned off so the kids could play in the sand in private. The public beach is right in front of that with about a 20 yard walk to the ocean. A highlight of the beach was the My Paradise Beach Bar that is located just next door. We went there almost every day during their 2 for 1 happy hour that is announced via a blowing conch shell that we could hear from our pool! I highly recommend a Pina Colada! The whole family loved the trip so much that we plan to go back in the next couple of years!

We canceled our reservation, and he still refused to refund us for the days we did not stay there. This is our review of the property: On the surface this property looks beautiful and inviting even though the pictures are definitely outdated and not accurate. I've booked many Airbnb's and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. This property was lacking in many necessary basic items, but also was not safe in many ways. We got an electric shock anytime we touched the stove, upside of that: there were no dishes, no silverware or pots and pans to cook with so we didn't have to touch it much. There was literally ONE fork. We hired a private chef to come cook for us and after we arrived we realized that wasn't an option any longer due to aforementioned lack of kitchenware. At roughly 9 PM someone that we didn't know came into the house and started opening windows and turning on fans and scared my teenage daughter and her friend to the point she had to lock her bedroom door to feel safe. There was no hot water. After talking to the property manager, we were told to let the water run for 15 minutes which we did and didn't help at all and there never was any hot water. The toilets were clogged the first time we tried to flush them and it never flushed. There was a problem with the gate to the property that we could not figure out. We went to get groceries and we were stuck outside while our ice and groceries melted. The property owner never responded to our help request and we finally got the gate open after an hour. The pool was not ready when we showed up and we were advised not to swim in it because they just dumped chemicals into it. We also were told the jacuzzi does not operate properly ie: no hot water. The next day the fumes were still so toxic it was unusable. I could go on but I am honestly not a complainer. I've never left a bad review. When issues arise (as they do) I generally just let it go. But there were too many problems that made staying there unbearable. A few more things: There literally was not one blanket in the whole house. Every bed had a sheet only and when we requested blankets they actually brought us more sheets!! The wi-fi was very spotty. Our air-conditioner had a bucket catching water (and dripped on our sheets) One refrigerator didn't work and the other was barely cold. Part of the overall electrical issues, I believe. We decided to cancel our reservation for the rest of the time we had booked. We asked the owner for a refund because of all of the things that we're not acceptable and they refused, even though we cancelled our remaining days and we were not there. Because of the seriousness of our complaint, Airbnb actually refunded us directly even though the owner of this property kept our money. The property manager, Alex, was rude and unapologetic for all of these things. This experience could've ruined our whole vacation but we decided to book another place which ended up being wonderful. Alex's weak and lacking management style is shameful and unacceptable. Definitely do not book this property. I love Airbnb's in general but this property is not worth staying at even if it was free. The pictures are great but don't judge a book by its cover. Worst experience ever.

"Is it safe?", "Can you buy property in Mexico, I heard you could only lease.", "What about the Cartels?", "Mexico can take away your property." Unfortunately, there is a lot of mis-information about Mexico that people who have never been, believe wholeheartedly. We have been coming to Puerto Morelos since 2013. If we didn't feel safe, we wouldn't have bought here. The people who live in Puerto Morelos are the nicest, friendliest people you will ever meet. We have several friends here that are locals that we have known for years, and we consider them to be part of our family. We chose Run Away Realty because we had been renting a house across the street from them for several years. When the owner decided to sell the house, they used Run Away Realty. So we knew we could trust them. They are also featured on House Hunters International on HGTV. If they have been vetted by HGTV, you know you can't go wrong. We worked with Daniela Trava "Dani". She took us to tour several houses, and we found the perfect home for us. It had the Mexican Charm we were so used to, a tree as part of the house, and a wonderful roof top patio with a Plunge Pool. Our closing was very different than most, because there was a lien on the property. The lien had to be paid off before we could finalize our purchase. This required us to do what was called a "Soft-Closing". Thus, we had to pay off their loan before we could officially buy the property. Talk about needing to really trust your realtor! We had full faith in Dani and Kim that we would make it through this "scary" time, and it all worked out beautifully. Kim Temple has built a wonderful reputation in this town she has called home for over 14 years. And, the fact that she was an attorney in her previous life in Colorado, added an extra layer of trust. She has a set team of professionals she is connected with and has been growing her Realty Business by adding new folks, like Dani! Through Dani, we were able to connect with her husband, Jaime, to be our property manager, and Milly Arceo for our residency. Jaime has been a great helper with getting things fixed around our new home, finding people to build things for our home, and taking care of our property when we are not in Puerto Morelos. Milly was amazing to work with for our residency. She prepared all of the documents, instructed us on what to do and how to do it, and she nailed it! Everything happened exactly like she said! We are loving our Puerto Morelos home, our new neighborhood, being able to go to the beach whenever we want (it is literally 6 minutes from our house!) And especially enjoy all of the wonderful restaurants in the Colonia as well as the Port Side of Puerto Morelos! And we are so thankful we had Dani to guide us through all of it, and as it turns out, as a Neighbor!
