This is my actual first Yelp review & I'm putting this out there so y'all know how wonderful this shop is. My lady and I broke down off the 5 with our 1991 Chevy G20. Called around & folks were going to be charging us hundreds of dollars just for a diagnostic. Got a tow out to Multifixitman's, they got going on our van first thing in the morning. Treated us with the utmost respect, even pulled out an A/C unit for us to sit in front of. They fixed our fuel pump for a more than a reasonable price & actually took the time to siphon gas we had back into the tank. We need more than five stars for places like this. This guy is hidden gem located on the outskirts of Bakersfield. When you first pull up, you'll think you're trespassing on some man's land, but rest assured it's bonafide backyard shop. Complete with professional in ground lift, dx equipment, and enough tools to make Tim Taylor hard, Gerald is legit. Super honest and genuine family man, he won't sell you snake oil. Highly recommended and can do anything, including a complete engine replacement! Blew my head gasket barreling through the grapevine during a heat wave and he got a me a handsome deal on a used engine. My Lexus has a 2nd chance @ life and is set for more adventures. read more

Please read this review I was stranded in the middle of nowhere, late at night during the Thanksgiving break. My truck had broke down and all the big name shops were closed. I came across a local mechanic (Multifixitman's Auto Repair) and decided to give him a call, even though it was after hours. In seconds I was greeted by a kind gentleman, who asked about my situation. After explaining myself, the mechanic by the name of Gerald told me to tow my truck to his property and he'd update me in the morning. The next day, Gerald called me early in the morning to give me a diagnosis and estimate of the service. I proceeded with his services and received another call a couple hours later telling me my truck was good to go! When I arrived to the property, Gerald went over the break down of the estimate. He explained that he needed to purchase a gas pump but gas pumps at the stores couldn't be purchased individually. The Gas pumps sold at stores came in a kit with additional parts that weren't necessary for this situation. Long story short, Gerald went out of his way to find someone to charge him only for the gas pump, which saved me a few hundred dollars when compared to the original estimate. After my interaction with Gerald, I knew I could label him as a harding working honest man, who has definitely earned my future business. Let me clear up some uncertainties about Multifixitman's Auto Repair... Don't let the lack of reviews deceive you, once you encounter Gerald you will want to make him your primary mechanic for the future! This guy is absolutely awesome! He knows what he's doing and he is fair priced for all he does. He goes far above and beyond of what 90% of other mechanics do and charge. My other mechanic in Sunnyvale would have charged me a lot more and it would have taken several days to complete the repair. I am very grateful for his knowledge and his awesome humble manner. Gerald saved me from being stranded on a hot day. He's not far off the 5 freeway and I barely made it to his shop. He took time out of his day for me and quickly diagnosed my truck. We were going to put an expensive part in it but he wanted me to be patient while he diagnosed it. He found that it was a fairly simple fix and he didn't over charge me. He has good helpers. This by far the best experience I've ever had with an auto shop(and trust me, I've dealt with a lot). We were taking a road trip to Vegas from the Bay Area when our car broke down in Bakersfield. There was leak in the transmission, which is always terrifying specially when you're no where near home. So like most others I went straight to Yelp to see what was around when I found this place. I called and talked to Gerald(the owner) and he told me to bring it right in. He started working on it immediately and when we realized it couldn't be fixed the same day he told us to leave it for the weekend and it would be ready for us after our trip. When we got back not only was the car ready and fixed, he gave us a great deal on all the work he did. If you live in the area or just passing, this is the place you take your car to get fixed. It was a crazy story as my pristine '06 Camry went down on the 5 south in Buttonwillow. The next morning I had it towed to Gerald and met half of the family who were all working invested in making sure I felt cared for while I was stranded in this new town. After some investigation, we were all surprised to find out that the engine needed to be replaced. He gave me a fairer rate than anyone in LA would quote me at. This took a week to ship and install, but as Gerald was investigating the air conditioning, the engine he bought started knocking... He called me right away to explain that he had demanded the company he bought the engine from replace it, and within 2 days he had a well functioning motor with less miles than the original estimate. He also swallowed a lot of the costs of labor from putting in, and pulling out a busted motor, to try and make up for the extra days that it took. If you're not going to Geralds shop you're not getting the best deal. Wonderful man, honest, fair and just a regular guy. He lives fairly out and you have to go into his backyard to get to a shop, but don't let that fool you. He has better equipment than most shops. I was worried that my fuel pump was out as people had told me. Gerald called me and told me it was only my battery. He had checked everything else. I went and picked my car up and knew that I had found a mechanic for life. I will say this especially to women who may be alone, and afraid that you will be taken advantage of . This is the place you should go to for auto repair. Our friend's radiator system had a leak, and he got stranded off of I-5 near Bakersfield. We called around for several auto repair places and even parts stores, but most places were understandably closed because it was Sunday. And while Multifixitman is also ostensibly closed on Sunday, Gerald was generous enough to help us out on his day off. He did a great job getting the car fixed and our friend was back on his way in just a couple of hours. While we were waiting, our young son was invited to play in their adjoining home's yard and he had a blast. Everyone there was so nice. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Gerald the Multifixitman extraordinaire recently made a repair on my VW transmission shifter linkage. I can't say enough about the quality of Gerald's workmanship and his attention to detail. He took the time to research the best course of action on ordering the parts, and the plan of action for the repair. This repair was performed during the Christmas and New Years holidays while a major rain and snow storm hit the southern Ca. areas. So before I start my review I would like to say that my car would randomly lurch and jerk forward. I had asked mechanics about it, and my car had seemed to be running fine. I had taken my car to get an oil change and for a quick checkup on my car since we were planning a trip to socal from norcal. I was told it was ready to go, and we lugged three kids and went our way to socal. About halfway, in Bakersfield, my car started running a little funny and the lurching was happening. Then the check engine light goes on. Getting pretty stressed, I pulled over contemplating what I need to do next. I checked on yelp, hoping there was a mechanic nearby. Low and behold there was one about 6 miles away! I make a phone call to make sure I can bring my car in, and went on my way to the mechanic. When I first arrived his shop, I was really skeptical because the shop was located behind a house. I had explained to him what happened, and he went right to diagnosing my car. He comes back and explains it was an oxygen sensor that needed to be replaced. Being kind of worried if I can trust Gerald or not, I look up on my phone to see estimated cost of getting an oxygen sensor replaced. The estimated and fair cost was 250. He comes back and tells me that it would cost me 250! I took a leap of faith and left my car there over the weekend to have him fix it. When we returned to pick up my car, it was all done and the transaction was complete and smooth. Here is the real test though. I commute about 2 hours a day with the total of about 60 miles. My car runs smoother than ever and the lurching thing has stopped. My car runs perfectly fine. I am ever so grateful Gerald was able to take my car in and save the day! I highly highly HIGHLY recommend him if you ever break down on the I-5. He is as accommodating as possible, super honest and reasonable! read more

Like most people on this review site; we broke down near Bakersfield and needed a mechanics help to figure out what was wrong. Gerald ran a few checks and we realized that it was simply a radiator cap. Gerald ordered one from Autozone but when it arrived the part would not fit. The part on the autozone website was not correct so Gerald cross checked the part on another site and was able to let Autozone know what the correct part was for our Subaru. Autozone sent out another part ASAP and we were on our way. Thanks to Gerald and his history not only as a mechanic but as a shop foreman really helped us in getting the part we needed. Was on a cross-country trip visiting the national parks. After visiting Kings Canyon, my brakes started squealing. Stopped in Buttonwillow along I-5 for the night and the next morning looked at my brakes to find I needed my rear brakes replaced. Checked yelp for car repair shop in the area, called 2 shops and decided on Multifixitman's based on the reviews and his price quote. Called the shop at 9am to arrange an appointment at 11:30am. When I got there at 11:30, the brake pads had been ordered/arrived and George replaced it quickly and efficiently to get me back on the road again. All the good reviews I had read were spot on. Honest mechanic who charges a great rate (the other shop I called quoted a rate almost twice as much as George's quote). Man Gerald!!! Is the best!! Had a leak in my radiator pipe. I was stranded and I heard about him and pulled up. It was a Sunday but he still had the heart to open up his shop just to fix it for me and after he fixed it. He didn't let get back on the road because he wanted to make sure the car was okay to go.
