The new Hillsboro Downtown Station offers a variety of food options spanning many ethnic cuisines - Mexican, Thai, hot chicken, sushi, Cuban, Chinese, Indian, Chilean, Germany, poke, Greek gyros, Korean, Italian, American - even beer and cider, ice cream and crepes. Serious, this is an incredible line up. Outside of the downtown area, like in Orenco Station, there are several restaurants that are also worth visiting like Chennai Masala for really delicious Indian food or Oasis Lebanese when your craving kabobs. The old school fave, Helvatia Tavern off Cornelius Pass, has been there for years and is always good for groups. Had many a team lunch or dinner there. The Meating Place, a butcher shop and restaurant, is worth the drive to Hillsboro! Not only do they sell quality prime cuts of meat, you can eat there and the food is delicious. Get the Reuben made with their own house smoke pastrami, melted Swiss and slathered with thousand island dressing. Fabulous! And enough for two meals! Burgers are killer! You can't go wrong. The ABV is the most popular beer house serving regional beers on tap and hard cider, for those like me who don't enjoy beer. Typical bar food but elevated versions, like burgers topped with Mama Lil's peppers. The Marshalls where I would shop several times a month after stressful days, is no longer there, a big loss. But The Streets of Tannesbourne and the shops across and in Orenco Station have lots to offer. Especially the Home Goods, a chain, but always worth the stop. Ironically, now that I no longer commute to Hillsboro, I find myself out there a few times a year meeting friends for dinner or for mini shopping sprees.

On or about 10-25-24 a Milwaukie Sgt. noticed a bike out of place in their impound. He ran the serial numbers and found it to be the $5,400+ bike that was stolen. YAY! I am a retired police chief and knew all sorts of officers. My salutations to Sgt. Inman. He is a reflection of nothing but the highest standards of good police work in Milwaukie and its department. Whether they will leverage this find to root out the other , very expensive, bike remains to be seen but the person that got arrested with the bike may be sweating a bit right now. There is a brochure stand on the first floor in front of the post office windows. It was helpful with a few maps and some guidance. Plaques line the walls in each room and hallway with detailed descriptions about the history of the Courthouse. I only encountered 4 people in the offices today, so it was quiet. I meandered a bit, then headed upstairs. The Cupola was the best part. A 360' view of downtown. It's a beautiful building and I'm glad I took the time to check it out.

The kids area was amazing with books at his level, interactive play structures with a beautiful and fun nature theme. The reading nook was adorable and there were even a few toys out. We visited in the evening so it wasn't crowded but a mom and her son came to the area and told me on Tuesday's they had story time! We will be coming back for that next! The staff were very helpful and sweet as well. So grateful this is so close to us and we will be back so many times!

However, the website was being a little annoying as it would jump from a 45 minute wait to a 70 minute wait back to 55 minutes. I would be cautious about the estimate time and recommend you stay in the plaza just in case. Finally when we got to the counter, the process was pretty simple on getting tags renewed, and luckily the DEQ already sent in the information, so we didn't have to bring the papers from there. The guy working there was pretty nice and patient too, definitely one of the better DMV experiences we've went through.

I even got a phone call 2 days later to let me know my permits were approved. Then, I needed to go to the PP&R office to pick up the permits and access key. Things didn't go completely smooth, because some notes didn't get added to my reservation in the computer system. BUT, they were very nice and very helpful. They got it figured out and I was in/out within about 10/minutes.
