Stopped by the library to pick up a library card. The library is on a main street. There is a bus line across the street. Neighborhood library as the library is across from some apartments and right by the library is a small park called Scotts Park,where you can walk your dogs and relax. One level library with high ceilings. You come in to the foyer, there are set of comfy chairs where you can sit and relax. Enjoy the area and be at peace with yourself. There is a seed library with everything from flowers, herbs, ornamental, fruits and misc drawers. You just pick the seed that you will want to bring back home. It's a very open library where everything is labelled. Many meeting rooms are available to reserve. There is a teen room where they can sit and relax and study. There are many tables with lamps where you can bring your computer and do work. If you go through another door there is a "Children's Room." There are many children books there and tables to sit and read. Even am area where they can play quietly. This neighborhood library is fun to walk in and just check it out while you are in the area. Catch the bus and walk around downtown Milwaukie and see the shops around. read more

Place is always clean, staff is always friendly and they have an awesome seed library you can take plant/vegetable seeds from. I've decided that rather than complain about taxes, I'll just use all of the public resources to their fullest extent and consider it a really large access fee. So I spend a considerable amount of time in libraries and parks. I'm not a regular, but have been receiving materials from this library for years. Since all of the Clackamas County libraries are part of the LINCC network, I get to enjoy access to books and materials from 13 libraries including Lake Oswego, Milwaukie and Wilsonville in addition to my home library in West Linn. Reserving items online is a breeze. Since I regularly visit other libraries in the area, it was interesting to finally step in the door of this one. It is one of the most modest of the bunch, but still a wonderful place. The spacious children's area is downstairs in the Rowe Reading Room. The upstairs has some large windows on one side of the building overlooking the Nutria Pond, but otherwise is very stark and 70s era utilitarian. There are a couple of funny things about this location. Rather than apply the library sticker to the outside of audio/visual materials, it is on the inside, so you always need to open the item to scan. The self check-out program also has a few differences from the other libraries I frequent. So part of the group, but quirky. West Linn, Wilsonville and Tualatin have all experienced massive renovations of their libraries in the past decade, so I wonder if it is only a matter of time for Milwaukie to get their own library beautification. Until then, a great place to check out books (or pick them up from the other regional libraries), but not a place where I'd hang out and read. read more

I was so impressed with the lady that put on the stuffed animal slumber party. My son and am sure the entire room full of children had a blast....today we will pick up my son's stuffed dog, Jr. Please have more stuffed animal slumber parties like this.....its wonderful....plus it's fun for the children as well as showing them the library is a fun and safe place... Please consider.... *****UPDATE****It's 12pm Sunday the 22nd. We picked up JR from the slumber party...not only did he have a fun night at the party he came home with 6 photos of what he did all night. I've only been in here the once and enjoyed it. It felt more like the library I'm used to from my childhood than the modern city libraries I've become used to. Seeing how you can request books from anywhere in the county, I'm not too worried about what they have on the shelves. I haven't been to any other Clackamas libraries, so I don't know how it compares. They have the Cultural Passes which get you in to local museums and parks for free (or discounted price). I even heard one of the librarians say hello to someone by name. My kind of library! I would be happy to have this library down the street. read more

65% fewer weirdos than @ any Mult. Co. Library--- Guaranteed. ;p Been using this lil' branch for many years and continue to do so, even though I've moved from Milwaukie. The LINCC selection is comparable in breadth, and frequently far less jammed up, than the Multnomah Co. System. Spoiler alert: you are very often able to get brand new items significantly quicker thru LINCC than w/other systems. Presumably this is owing to the significant difference in populations of the respective counties/districts. You'll frequently be on hold behind 100s of other patrons for a recently-released item elsewhere (again, in Multnomah Co's online system.), but through LINCC you rarely have even a couple dozen others in line ahead of you on the Online "Hold" lists... Finally, the hours: Ledding is open till 2100 on week nights, where as other systems are open only till 18 or 2000 hrs, dep. on the day. Advantage once again, Ledding and LINCC! read more

Basically the best library I could imagine and it's in my neighborhood! 1. It's way bigger than I thought it'd be on the inside. All kids stuff is downstairs (awesome for me, being child free, I don't want to see kids...). So WYSIWYG on the main level. 2. The book lists! I have never been to a library that had such thoughtful and creatively curated lists. Right now, I have a few from the American authors list, Vonnegut, Eudora Welty and Faulkner. They also recently had a list from the NY public library with works from characters on Mad Men (I assume books the characters were seen reading on the series). I was curious about Pete Campbell's...The Crying of Lot 49. Pynchon is weird though so I couldn't get into it. 3. The perks. The cultural enrichment passes (all are free to rent for a day except the PAM which is $5). This joint also does free concerts. I happened to pass by during a concert by Hyatus and they sounded good! I think it's a sweet idea to do little concerts at the library. And during warmer months (starting NOW) they do their concerts outside at the amphitheater by the duck pond. SWEET. The crowd was into it and it makes for a nice casual afternoon out of the house. A couple other little notes. First 5 pages of printing are free. Holds are at the front desk (you have to talk to a person to retreive them...minus one star for that). The few things I've requested, I got pretty fast (like a week or so). They have a large collection of dvds and tv on the shelf, larger than what I've seen at most branches of MultCoLib (Belmont, Sellwood, Holgate at least!) Now, if you don't appreciate all that, show me where the real library magic is. I can't imagine a better library. read more

Good selection of books and etc, but a terrible place to work/study. There are practically no power outlets in the place, except some that are next to some comfy chairs that people usually sleep in. Needs to be updated to the 21st century! Plus, the place is so small that even if you do find a place to work, you won't be able to if you don't have a good battery. Come here to borrow a book, but it's useless for anything more than that. read more

I've been coming here for over thirty years, and I just turned 37. Today my five year old got her own card. I can honestly say I've never had a bad interaction with library staff in all this time! (I was a hyper kid and I now have my own noisy kid, so we've tested their patience plenty over the last three decades.) Sure, it's a vintage building and not the hugest library, but it's comfortable and you can always tap into the much larger library network to reserve what you need. Great, kind of campy-but-fun, activities for kids, on a schedule that includes SAHP and employed parents. I'm kind of sad you can't just wade down to the pond and throw food at the wildlife anymore, like I did as a kid, but the new nature area is much healthier for the creatures and you can explore the newer raised observation area without getting goose sh** all over your feet...which is an improvement! read more

We've recently moved out of Portland and into Milwaukie. So sad to leave our neighborhood library. That was until we walked into this little slice of heaven! Two floors and the entire bottom floor is for children! What?!?! It's amazing! My kids are 9 & 11 and they have such a massive selection we have to edit our finds every week. Their librarians are lovely and attentive. Also lots of great activities for kids. The Read to the Dog program on Thursday's is my 9 year old's favorite. She absolutely loves it so much, her first day, she signed up for every Thursday until mid October. We are a bilingual family and this library has a massive Russian adult and children section. We are so thankful for such a great library in our area! read more

I understand Andrew's frustration below. Not enough outlets, and not strategically placed to be of use. They have, however, recently passed a bond measure to improve and enhance the building. Hopefully, and I'm sure they will, they'll address the lack of outlets and study spaces. I think the last time they renovated, there wasn't a plethora of devices that would constantly need to be charged! I'm looking forward to them joining the 21st Century! read more

This is a small library, but it's efficient and the closest one that's in the Clackamas County. They have a wide DVD selection, including quite a few tv shows, and their book options are not too shabby, either. read more

Interesting review, Chuck. When my computer was down, I needed to use the internet computers upstairs at the library. Much to my dismay, the man next to me was "playing with himself" From that point I have forbidden my children to use the computer unless it is downstairs in the children's dept. However, the children's section is great! the librarians are very friendly and there are lots of fun activities. We order many of our books on the computer, and stop in every several days to pick them up. I am glad to get good use out of my tax dollars. We pay over $100 a year in property taxes for the clackamas library bond. read more

Never overly crowded, always updated copies of The Mercury available, very convenient. They have a decent movie selection too.

This is the library I grew up going to, and it is just as great as when I was a kid. The employees are all very friendly, and willing to help the moment you ask. There is an abundance of activities planned for children, and adults, including story times, summer events, and even reading to Norman the elephant! Another thing I love is that the volunteers are equally amazing and helpful. I recommend this library to all my friends, and anyone who asks. read more
